Muffin Top (A BBW Romantic Comedy) (The Hartigans Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.3 4.3 out of 5 stars 4,740 ratings

The only thing about me that’s a size zero is the filter on my mouth. I’ve got a big personality, a big rack, and a big number on the scale. And I’m perfectly fine with that.

But when some random guy suggests I might not be eating alone if I’d ordered a salad instead of a hamburger I’m shocked silent, which is a feat, trust me.

That brings us to one sexy fireman named Frankie Hartigan. He’s hot. He’s funny… And he’s just apologized for being late for our “date” then glared at the fat-shaming jerk. Next thing I know, he’s sitting down and ordering himself dinner.

I have no problem telling him I don’t need a pity date…unless of course it’s to my high school reunion next week. Oops where did that last bit come from? And what do I do now that he’s said yes?!

Because this is no make-over story, and I think Frankie is using me for something. I just have to figure out what…

Each book in the Hartigans series is STANDALONE:

"Can I start by saying that it's been a really long time since I've loved a plus sized character as much as I loved Lucy. Avery Flynn has really written the "fat" girl to perfection. She understands what goes through that brain. Frankie's character was believable and relatable. The two get into some interesting predicaments and I found myself laughing to tears. The emotions that they go through brought me to tears of a different nature. So far this is my ultimate favorite of Ms.Flynn's. It will be difficult to top!" -Donna S., NetGalley

Two words, Frankie Hartigan.
5 out of 5 stars
Two words, Frankie Hartigan.
Dear reader, before you start this book I have a warning for you, just hand over your heart and panties to the giant ginger that is Frankie Hartigan and don’t fight it. You won’t be sorry. I know I wasn’t.Warning given, I can now say that this is a book that EVERYONE who reads romance needs to read. I LOVED this story so much. I still think about it days after I finished it. Okay, I still get the giggles thinking about certain scenes too. No matter how much I think I’m done with Frankie and Lucy, they keep popping back into my mind.If I could give this book unlimited stars I would. Ah-maz-ing. That’s they best way to describe this unbelievably awesome read from the equally awesome Avery Flynn who has ruined me with this book.I loved everything about this book. I know I can’t give it the review it so deserves but I can try to convince you to part with your money for a book that for me, is hands down one of the funniest, hottest, sassiest, unputdownable books you will read this year.If you love a feisty, sassy heroine then Lucy is the one for you. I loved her from the moment she appeared to the last page that left me goofy grinning for way longer than it should have because there is only one Lucy and it’s a total treat to get to know her in this story. I so want to be like her when I grow up.Now in case you haven’t already guess, I loved Frankie something hard. Shocker I know. But seriously, just wait till you have the pleasure of learning more about the gentle giant as he goes on a road trip with Lucy to her high school reunion. I can’t say too much because I don’t want to give anything away, but if you don’t fall for Frankie you shouldn’t be reading romance.Combine these two and watch out as sparks, sass, snark, clothes and best intentions fly out the window as one of Waterbury’s finest falls for the one woman he NEVER saw coming.I can’t say read this book enough. If you haven’t read the first book where we first meet Lucy and Frankie in Butterface do so now. That said you can totally read this as stand-alone, but you really should read both because Avery Flynn is a genius when it comes to strong sassy heroines and the wonderful men who love them and this highlights why she is a must read author for me.I can’t wait for the next book. I want it now!!!

--"... this was a full-on, fully engaged four-alarm fire, and he was glad as hell to be burning.--

There was a lot I loved about this book, not least of which was the plus-size MC representation that I felt was done really well. And while Lucy had her hangups and self-esteem issues, she was a bad-ass PR agent who could hold her own.

And Frankie Hartigan made it all believable for me... all six-foot-six of him and his meal cooking, abs-laden, fire-fighting goodness.

When I read the first book in this series, one of the things I thought was a tad lacking was the story showing why Ford had fallen for Gina. He liked her despite her not being what people would consider conventionally attractive as people went, and it was sweet, but I didn't see that story really SHOW what it was about HER that made HIM like her so much. That was definitely not an issue in Muffin Top. I felt like that aspect was really well-developed, so I was really happy about that.

The backgrounds for each of these characters and the baggage they each brought into their impromptu relationship, I also thought was well thought out and made for good conflict in the story.

I listened to this audiobook pretty much in one sitting because it was just that entertaining and fun. It was laugh-out-loud funny with plenty of one-liners throughout that earned its position securely in the romantic comedy category. This is easily a story I could see being made into a Netflix original at some point.

--“Your ego is the only thing bigger than you are. It could use a little downsizing,” she said with a chuckle.--

I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good contemporary romance with a super strong female character, a great circle of friends for support, a good solid Hero with all the endearing qualities a HEA calls for, and a family dynamic that warms the cockles.

I liked this book so much I read/listened to it within 48 hours. Definitely recommend listening if you are able to. Such good narrators made the book even better.

    Cute and spicy story.

Wished Lucy would have stopped being so hard on herself and second guessing as well.

Frankie…well.. he was trying to figure out not only himself but how he felt about Lucy.

I would recommend. Now I need to go find the rest of the series. It’s ok to not have read the first book, but now I want to know what happened in the first book.

This is a wonderfully amazing romance that I just fell in love with. Filled with deep emotions, drama, humor and sizzling heat, this book was a delight to read. Lucy and Frankie are both such compelling and complex characters, that also happen to be incredibly realistic. Lucy is smart, funny and successful. She is also a plus size woman with quite the sassy mouth on her. Now I know that that seems cliched and in some ways it is. However, I feel that when you are singled out and ridiculed about something all the time it pretty much can cause you to react in either retreat mode or defense mode and Lucy went with defense mode. Frankie is such a great guy but he also has his own baggage that effects how he acts and the relationships he has. What starts out as something basic and quickly morphs into so much more when the attraction and chemistry just explodes between them. I will say that there is one spot in the book where I think Lucy really let her mouth get the better of her and at Frankie's expense. This rubbed me the wrong way and I can't say that I was very satisfied with how the whole thing was rectified either. Regardless, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and am eagerly awaiting book #3.

This was exactly what I needed - an easy fun read with some drama and a happy ending. I really liked Lucy & Frankie. They were both so confident in so many ways but not confident when it came to their love life. It was understandable for both of them - Lucy is plus size & has dealt with society’s thoughts & expectations her whole life, and Frankie has been made aware that the local ladies see him as good for a night but not a real relationship. I really liked their chemistry; it was hot both in & out of the bedroom, and I just liked them as a couple.

However, the miscommunication & self-sabotage was strong, and it’s mostly from Lucy’s side. Yes, they both talked at each other & misinterpreted what the other said, but Lucy refuses to believe that Frankie is attracted to her. The third act breakup happened as expected but I did expect more grovelling from her; instead, it’s pretty much all from Frankie.

I am a big fan of most of Avery Flynn's books. I read Butter Face first and really enjoyed it, so I decided to give Muffin Top a try as the two standalone stories revolve around the same group of girls and circle of friends. I'm still a bigger fan of Butter Face but Muffin Top was still a good read and I'm 100% I bought it and gave it a try. The book has a great quirky plot, lots of great dialogue and Avery Flynn does her usual bang-up job of perfectly balancing description, dialogue, and plot. Definitely worth purchasing if you're looking for a good romance book. A++
