Murder on the Cornish Cliffs: A completely unputdownable 1920s cozy murder mystery (A Lady Eleanor Swift Mystery Book 16) Kindle Edition

4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars 1,245 ratings

A festive invitation from an old family friend, the promise of gingerbread at the village inn, snowy walks on the Cornish coast with Gladstone the bulldog… But wait, is that a body on the beach?

Winter, 1923. It’s nearly Christmas and Lady Eleanor Swift has received a rather strange letter from an old friend of her uncle. Mr Godfrey Cunliffe has asked her to stay in Cornwall for the holidays – but only because he believes his gardener is trying to poison him! With not a moment to waste Eleanor hurries down to his picturesque manor house with her butler Clifford and handsome beau Detective Hugh Seldon. But they arrive too late to stop the crime…

Lying dead at the bottom of the steep cliffs, however, is not Mr Cunliffe, but the gardener himself. And his plans for restoring the gardens to their former glory are missing. Jerome St Clair has gone from suspect to victim. This certainly puts a twist in the tinsel!

As snow begins to fall, Eleanor quizzes the family. Mr Cunliffe’s alibi is as fragile as the glass baubles hanging from his towering Christmas tree. Eleanor quickly realises everyone from the handyman to the housekeeper is keeping secrets, and she’s convinced that Mr Cunliffe is still scared for his life.

When
Gladstone the bulldog pulls a charred corner of the missing garden plans from a fireplace festooned with a gold-ribboned garland, Eleanor thinks the clue she needs is hiding out in the grounds. But when someone tries to run her over with the huge lawnmower, she knows she must wrap up the mystery fast before her Christmas is cancelled for good…

Murder on the Cornish Cliffs is a fun, twisty and absolutely gripping historical English cozy mystery, perfect for fans of T.E. Kinsey, Catherine Coles and Agatha Christie.

Our girl and her butler sure do seem to get into more trouble! Thankfully, they also have a knack for getting back out of it and solving the murders at the same time!

Lady Swift and Clifford take a trip to solve a mystery at the estate of a friend of Ellie’s late uncle. The mystery is very complicated and Eleanor requires her fiancé to come and help solve it. The usual bantering between Eleanor and Clifford continues. This is another good mystery in the series that stands alone but is more enjoyable by reading the others in the series first.

If not.... WHY NOT?! This is going to be a short review. The Lady Eleanor Swift mysteries every requirement for a fun, charming, lovable and investing cozy mystery. The complete package. I fear for the day series comes to end.

Much like Miss Marple, Lady Eleanor Swift and her faithful butler Clifford have to delve into family secrets and community folklore in their 16th outing. When an old friend of her late uncle's tells them he is fearful of being murdered, they rush to help. But it is not her uncle's friend but his gardener who lies dead. Unravelling the motive for murder and encountering the connection between an old tragedy and the present crime will keep the amateur sleuths and the reader guessing. This may be the best novel yet in a charming historical mystery series.

Who killed who. And why? Eleanor and Clifford are invited to Cornwall to prevent a murder. But they arrive after a body has been discovered. Now the fun begins. Then they ask Hugh, Eleanor's fiance to come to help, but to come incognito, (more fun). I highly recommend this 16th episode in the life of Lady Swift and look forward to the next.

Another fun story

With each new addition to this series, the writing of the Verity Bright
twosome has enticed and exceeded expectations including this book, “Murder
on the Cornish Cliffs.”

Here, the two authors have woven for us a marvelous story of greed, foolishness,
and ultimately, personal bravery.

I enjoyed this work more than any I have read in the last few years, and I
strongly recommend it to you for your own enjoyment.

I greatly anticipate the next chapter in The Lady Eleanor saga.

A trip to help a friend at Christmas becomes a murder investigation when not one but two bodies turn up. It seems as if someone is one step ahead of.. the garden holds the key, but with secret passages/caves/
And dangerous cliffs it may be hard to figure out who the murderer might be…

This book sees Lady Eleanor Swift and her butler, Clifford, spending the festive season in Cornwall with an old friend of her uncle's. It has a delightfully batty cast of characters. In some ways it's a darker book than others, but it's an enjoyable and thrilling read, nonetheless.
