The Cornish Wedding Murder: An absolutely gripping and laugh-out-loud cozy mystery series filled with twists and turns for 2025 (A Nosey Parker Cozy Mystery, Book 1) (Nosey Parker Cozy Mysteries) Kindle Edition

4.1 out of 5 stars 8,243 ratings

‘A sparklingly delicious confection to satisfy the mystery reader’s appetite’ Helena Dixon, bestselling author of the Miss Underhay Mysteries

Still spinning from the hustle and bustle of city life, Jodie ‘Nosey’ Parker is glad to be back in the Cornish village she calls home. Having quit the Met Police in search of something less dangerous, the change of pace means she can finally start her dream catering company and raise her daughter, Daisy, somewhere safer.

But there’s nothing quite like having your first job back at home be catering an ex-boyfriend’s wedding to remind you of just how small your village is. And when the bride vanishes, Jodie is drawn into the investigation, realising that life in the countryside might not be as quaint as she remembers.

With a missing bride on their hands, murder and mayhem lurks around every corner…

But surely saving the day will be a piece of cake for this not-so-amateur sleuth?

Fiona Leitch is an author, tea drinker, and Jammie Dodger enthusiast. She writes the Jodie 'Nosey' Parker series for HarperCollins, because she loves thinking about Cornwall, food, and murdering people (not necessarily in that order). Her biggest claims to fame are being thrown out of a TV studio debate by John Craven, having the shortest stand-up comedy career ever, and playing a French hen in a non-denominational school Christmas play, which she is definitely not still bitter about. She is a sucker for a happy ending (though not for the victim, obviously), a romantic subplot, and a cheesy pun. Her novels are currently in development with BBC Studios and Union Pictures.

Fiona is represented by Lina Langlee at the North Literary Agency.

Great twists, lots of personality and a persistent Pomeranian are mixed together in this opening gambit into cozy mysteries.

Jodie Parker has left the police force, taken a cooking course, moved back home and is opening a catering company. Her first official client is her best friend, Tony, for his wedding.

Things go awry when his ex-wife gets into a set-to with his soon-to-be-wife on the eve of the wedding. Jodie gets them apart, and helps the ex calm down. Instead of greeting guests, the bride-to-be escapes to her room, and leaves the mingling to her groom.

Then, the ex is found dead, the bride is missing, and the police think the groom is good for … something. Jodie isn’t having that, not at all.

Finding out whodunnit takes observation, gossip, and nosiness, and the hunky DCI keeps it real, by keeping Jodie in the loop.

Nosey Parker is a delightful character. She is witty, bright, a great protagonist! And her friends and colleagues are also great fun. Nosey is also a Cracker Jack detective, a former police officer. This is a very good detective story and an even better fun ride with Nosey and friends along with a few antagonists to keep things interesting! Great fun!

This was a fun, non-stressful read. I almost ‘noped’ it, though, because the title in the Amazon listing is ‘Cornish Wedding Murder, and absolutely laugh-out-loud…” NO. Not cool. All of the books that appear this way are ‘absolutely’ something-or-other, and writers should know better. And not only WASN’T it ‘laugh-out-loud’; it wasn’t ‘ABSOLUTELY’ anything.

What it WAS, is a perfectly respectable and enjoyable cozy mystery, in which the tropes are somewhat cliché (which is what makes them tropes), but the writing is not; most of the characters aren’t TOO much so… It’s a good book and I will read more in the series.

But PLEASE quit trying to micromanage what the reader should expect. Let us readers decide whether it’s ‘laugh-out-loud’, or ‘an edge-of-our-seat thriller’, or whatever.

Recently returned to her hometown in the Cornish Village of Penstowan with her 12 year old daughter, after leaving behind her job as a police office at the Met and cheating ex, Jodie “Nosey” Parker is keen to embark on a new career as a caterer but things don’t go as planned. Her first job catering for an old flame and his soon to be wife goes pear shaped on the day of the nuptials when the bride is a “no show” and the groom’s ex wife turns up dead outside the venue. When her friend Tony (the groom) becomes the main suspect, all Jodie’s police training propels her into the centre of the investigation much to the annoyance of DCI Nathan Withers the handsome but arrogant detective in charge of the case. From there on it’s a case of old fashioned sleuthing and a dash of good luck to find the murderer.

The story was well written with a decent sprinkling of humour and a touch a romance thrown in for good measure. The story was possibly a tad long, but overall it was an enjoyable read.
