Editorial Reviews

Review

“A brilliantly ingenious story.” — Dorothy L. Sayers, Daily Herald (UK)

“It’s tempting to say that Agatha Christie is a genius and let it go at that, but the world’s had plenty of geniuses. Agatha Christie is something special.” — Lawrence Block, New York Times bestselling author

“[Moves] smoothly and entertainingly to its surprise conclusion.” — Chicago Daily Tribune

“Nothing short of swell. [Christie] is probably the best suspicion scatterer and diverter in the business.” — New York Herald Tribune

“What more…can a mystery addict desire?” — New York Times

“Agatha Christie’s books are both wonderful crime novels and studies in contrast and duality, and I adore them still. Underestimate them at your peril.” — Louise Penny, #1 New York Times-bestselling author of the Inspector Gamache novels

“Reading a perfectly plotted Agatha Christie is like crunching into a perfect apple: that pure, crisp, absolute satisfaction.” — Tana French, New York Times-bestselling author of the Dublin Murder Squad novels

“Agatha Christie taught me many important lessons about the inner workings of the mystery novel before it ever occurred to me that I might one day be writing mysteries myself.” — Sue Grafton, #1 New York Times-bestselling author of the Kinsey Millhone novels

“Any mystery writer who wants to learn how to plot should spend a few days reading Agatha Christie. She’ll show you everything you want to know.” — Donna Leon, New York Times-bestselling author of the Commissario Brunetti novels

Born in Torquay in 1890, Agatha Christie began writing during the First World War and wrote over 100 novels, plays and short story collections. She was still writing to great acclaim until her death, and her books have now sold over a billion copies in English and another billion in over 100 foreign languages. Yet Agatha Christie was always a very private person, and though Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple became household names, the Queen of Crime was a complete enigma to all but her closest friends.

The only reason I didn't give this a lower rating is that it wasn't offered. I am not sure what happened with the text, but pronouns are consistently misapplied throughout the book, even within the same sentence or paragraph. If the purpose was to make the text more gender neutral, it only succeeded in making it unintelligible. For instance, in the same or a succeeding paragraph, an individual may be referred to as "he/him", 'she/her", "they/them", or even "it". "you" seems to often be replaced by one or more variants of the preceding. It almost appears that a a rather unintelligent 'AI' made random assignments of pronouns within the text, making the entire reading exercise painful and unpleasant. There also appear to be various and sundry odd and inappropriate edits, with portions of the text misplaced or juxtaposed.

It was very frustrating the kindle version of this book. The text was very difficult to read and the spacing was bizarre. I've never had this issue with a kindle book before. The odder part was entire sentences were missing or stopped halfway. I ended up going to my local book store to buy a hard copy and it's almost as if it's a different book completely! Do not buy the kindle version.

This digital book is full of grammatical errors. There are many sentences that do not make any sense at all. I want my money back. Who disgrace the most wonderful mystery writer by re-writing this book with many grammatical errors. Shame on you! I feel so outrage.

I was so pissed. The kindle version of this book has so many errors that it can't be read. Whole sentences with no meaning. This is not simply typos. I really have never had this happen before.

1.0 out of 5 stars product not fit for purpose

This version of a brilliant classic by Agatha Christie is ruined by being translated from either Spanish or Italian, which seems very strange in itself. Characters changed sex from one sentence to another making it difficult to understand if one or more persons were conversing and the description of an object would change in the same way, e.g. it took a while before before I realised that a tickle whistle, healing tube, etc was actually a pipe cleaner! In summary, the grammar was so bad it made it difficult to follow the storyline, completely ruining the reading experience.
