Nobody does enemies-to-lovers with angst and heated, but hilarious, banter like Elizabeth O’Roark. My Favorite Bad Decision is no exception with the constant antagonism between Kit and Miller. Kit reminds me of an actual kitten or a rose with thorns. She comes off prickly and unaffected while playing offense so she won’t be attacked unaware. But underneath all of that is a really tender and caring soul with plenty of compassion. And this girl is about to climb Mt Kilimanjaro as mandated by her dad with little to no preparation. Let me just say that Kit’s dad is equal parts entertaining and manipulative, but also endearing. Who should also be going on this same excursion at the same time is none other than Miller West, or “the one who got away” in Kit’s sister’s relationship history.
While Kit’s sister Maren should hit all the checkboxes for a perfect girlfriend, it’s Kit who actually fascinates Miller. The whole setup for this trip is truly genius because there’s nothing like requiring skill and survival to bring people closer together in a way that can’t be fabricated in everyday life. Miller is obviously ready for all of the challenges that lay ahead while Kit is winging it and Miller feels compelled to ensure her safety.
I loved Miller because he was so protective and yet supportive without being suffocating. It didn’t matter how much ire Kit threw his way, he was determined to break through her shield and make sure she came out of this trip alive and well. Whereas most guys would give up because Kit was so much work to impress, Miller seemed to welcome the challenge because he knew her worth and the reward would be someone he would never want to let go. Which means he was not above certain antics to achieve his goal. Kit can’t ever forget that he dated her sister and broke her heart, but she’s not immune to why her sister fell for him either. I admired Kit because she has a lot of strength when it comes to the people she loves and will do anything for them, but she keeps her circle very small.
I doubt that I’ll ever have the guts or glory to want to climb Mt Kilimanjaro, but I did love reading about it as though I had a front row seat to the whole experience. Their expedition group was especially fun to read about. If you want the excitement of traveling somewhere exotic that only a few will ever visit while watching Kit try to prove to Miller that she does not need his help and he’s thinking the opposite and how to woo her adventure and stealth style, then this is your jam.

Listen, I picked this book up and then didn’t come up for air until I finished it. I alwaysssss get like this with Elizabeth’s books. They are literally un-put-down able. This was no exception. I loved every single second of this book and my only regret is that it’s over.
