North's Pole (Camp Bay Christmas) Kindle Edition

4.1 4.1 out of 5 stars 606 ratings

Located on the shores of Lake Pend Oreille in beautiful Northern Idaho, Camp Bay Chalet is a discrete and cozy B&B, popular with both locals and minor celebrities for its fabulous holiday weekends.

The pic seen around the world….

The son of Hollywood royalty, North Astor-Ford has lived his entire life in the public’s eye. He knows better than anyone that someone is always watching.

So when one not-so-innocent picture meant for a hook-up accidentally ends up crossposted across
all his social media, North is left humiliated and scared. With no one to turn to, he flees to Camp Bay Chalet to be close to the one person he used to count on to protect him from the world.

Liam’s life has been in a holding pattern since the moment North fired him three years ago, even if it was for the best. A romance between a bodyguard and his client would’ve caused exactly the sort of scandal Liam was hired to prevent.

Now that North is back in his orbit, Liam’s going to do what he does best, protect North from the world. And maybe, just maybe, the charm of a Camp Bay Chalet Christmas will be enough to both heal North and bring about the romance they’ve both always wanted.

North’s Pole takes place in the Camp Bay shared universe, but can be read as a stand-alone. Look for more of the Camp Bay universe in Stolen Christmas by Marie Sexton.

This is such an adorable and cute story. There are Oh no he didn’t or maybe a not again kind of moment but this book was worth the read. The plot was great. The characters fit. The drama was low keyed. Nothing like an accidental post gone viral and a man there to help fix and put you back together. Leta Blake did a great job with this sweet Christmas book. 5 stars ⭐️💜

3.5 Stars rounded up to 4.

I overall I enjoyed this book. North was so sweet, and I felt so bad for him when he accidentally uploaded a NSFW photo. He was deeply humiliated and my heart hurt for him. He was a very sweet and genuine character who I just wanted to wrap up in a big hug.

Liam was in okay character that I wanted to like more than I actually did. A lot of the characters in the book think North isn’t very smart and call him some version of stupid. While Liam doesn’t verbally say it to North he thinks is a lot in the first half of the book and I absolutely hated it. He eventually feels bad for all the times he thought it but it didn’t fully redeem him as a character for me. I didn’t find it endearing at all that Liam thought things like “he’s an idiot, but he’s my idiot”. It just wasn’t “funny” or “cute” to me.

Overall the story is very sweet with no angst between the MCs. They care about each other a lot and it was sweet the way they both wanted to support each other’s dreams. The side characters were sweet too, and added a lot of charm to the story. This is a good holiday read but I’m not sure if I’ll read it again. Liam really didn’t leave an overall very good impression on me.

I did receive a free ARC of this book but that did not influence my review.

I was hoping for something more like Stolen Christmas, Max and Eric’s book. This one had altogether too much sex, much of it rushed. I felt like the premise was good, and the plot was good, but it was overshadowed by the sex. I just started skipping pages every time the kisses got heated. Maybe Stolen Christmas hasps a lot of sex, too, but I don’t remember it that way.

I loved North and Liam. Poor North made a huge blunder so he flees to the only place he thinks he can keep a low profile during Christmas, a secluded hotel that his former bodyguard told him about. Liam didn't expect to see North ever again. He knows North must be hurting after seeing the viral post, so he figures he could use a friendly face. I just wanted to wrap up North in a huge hug. I loved how creative he was with his dreams for the future. I also loved Liam's family and how welcoming they were of North. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

Unfortunately, this sweeet story becomes tedious and tiresome after a while. So, North made a mistake. Seems like everyone else can get over it, but not North. I've put this down several times, only to pick it up again and hope it gets better. Characters are supposed to be in young twenties. Seem more like pre or early teen. Reaction to North's slip up. while driving him crazy, are unreasonable in this day. Had to stop and see what others thought. Am going back for one final try, hoping for the best. Will honestly change my rating if I am surprised by the ending.

    4.0 out of 5 stars Internet faux-pas
Reviewed in Canada on December 5, 2022
This was a truly very sweet book mostly because of who the characters were. A mishap that for anyone else would have been intentional but for North clearly wasn't has the man embarrassed and running from the public. North isn't always the best at thinking things through, or the more bright, and his family has always been quick to tell him that. Years of hearing how he is stupid and having others take advantage of him have worn him down so with this most recent debacle he wants to just run and hide. His ex-bodyguard Liam is worried after everything and checks in on him, which rekindles the very feelings that lead to North firing Liam, though now not being employees they can think about exploring it.

A surprising amount of this story is just building up North because a lot of his issues have come from everyone else breaking him down. While his life is always in the spotlight his family doesn't help with that and no partner has before either. Liam helps North see himself as more which really helps. Liam also takes steps in his life, getting out of the holding pattern he has been in since leaving North and thinking about what is next. It was a sweet story of finding support and finding what else is out there.

    So why only 4 stars?
Because I reserve the higher scores (4.1 to 5) for excellent reads with more involved story lines and humour, etc
So, please don't be put off! It was a lovely story, captivating in its own gentle way, and I was glad that I read it.
Sometimes, we all need a nice gentle, feel-good story.

3.0 out of 5 stars A happy accident
Reviewed in Canada on November 14, 2022
This had a super cute premise and I liked it well enough but... there were just a couple things that I found a little off-putting that took away from the story.

North is kind of a hot mess and after accidently posting a d!ck pic on the Internet for the whole world to see, another in a long list of embarassing incidents, he flees into the arms of his "older" ex-bodyguard, Liam, whom he fired several years earlier.

The forbidden age-gap wasn't really a thing, though the author kept bringing it up, rationalizing it, as though readers would think it was wildly inappropriate. I can do math and understand age dynamics, this was barely a thing and I hated having my attention drawn to it again and again, especially since it was unnecessary and didn't drive the plot in any real way.

The transition to "couple" was nearly instantaneous once Liam found North at the Camp Bay Chalet very early in the book and I, for one, was disappointed there wasn't more of a tension-filled reunion after three years apart yearning for each other. Barring that having had them be in sporadic contact with each other over the years would have served that purpose equally well.

The excessive references to Liam's lack of intelligence were extremely off-putting, especially from his love interest as did some of the language between them that had hints of DDLB, which is not a kink I enjoy and had me ready to abort the book at a moment's notice if it strayed too far into the bedroom.

Once I got into the story, I really began to enjoy it, especially the interactions with the secondary characters although they were at times a little too plentiful to keep track of. I'm almost certain that it was a veritable who's who from the authors other books, which did at times make the reader feel as though they were missing information (ie. entire backstories) that would make the novel more enjoyable.

All that being said, I liked the story and would definitely read more by the author or in this world. It was a lovely addition to my Christmas repertoire.
