    I just finished Not Without Your Love the final book in this series. As mentioned in my review of the first book, The Wrong Kind of Love, the author has a terrific talent for taking on sensitive subjects and spinning them into thoughtful, heartfelt, HEA stories. Jackson Harbor is a place I would love to be a part of based on the characters in each of these books. On to the next series... Lexi Ryan has been added to my list of must-read authors and I look forward to more.

    What do you get in a Lexi Ryan book? Melodrama, angst, great characters, too many secrets, lots and lots of issues, and plenty of steam. Ms. Ryan is very skilled at creating chemistry between her MCs and weaving together complex plots.

    If there's one thing I like it's a character who is down and out and has to scratch and claw their way out of it. Veronica is certainly that in this story. I thought she was getting her act together in the previous books but apparently not. She's kept her problems close to the vest and is limited by her low self-esteem and shame about her past behavior. In this book her problems only multiply. No matter what you thought about Veronica in previous books, you've gotta feel sympathy for her now. She's trying so hard to make a better life for herself and her son but she just can't get a break. Colton also had a tough and dirty past, but he turned himself around and is determined to keep it that way. But like Veronica, he too has the lingering feeling that he is undeserving. These two outsiders have combustible chemistry that flares up whenever they're together. It burns up the pages and Lexi Ryan has never been better in writing those scenes.

    I have a couple gripes with this story that made me knock it down a peg. The first half of this book is so good, a five star plus read for me, but from 75-95% it was slow and repetitive, and I can only give that portion three stars at best. Also there was some negativity associated with one of my favorite characters featured in a previous book. He deserved better than to be painted as a heartless guy at the end of the series with no apology and no chance to redeem himself. There was a one sentence attempt at explaining his behavior but it was so underwhelming that it had no impact at all. How ironic that the very last half of the last book would leave me with a bad taste in my mouth about this. I know this served a function in the story, I just wish that character had a chance to prove he's better than that.

    So overall, a good story. I enjoyed most of it. The issues were very real and the book redeemed two previously vilified characters, which was satisfying because as the story says "people change" and it's true. But I'm not sure this is the strongest finale since it mostly centered around only two characters and didn't give the kind of wrap up that finales should have (IMO book 6 is the real finale). I believe it was meant to function more as a bridge between this and her next series. It was a good introduction to the characters that will be featured in the 2022 spin-off series Jackson Harbor Heartbreakers. If Ms. Ryan is on her game that should be a good series too.

    I love the entire Jackson Harbor series. I fell in love first with Shay and Easton’s story and just couldn’t get enough. I started at book 1 and read through the series and I was hooked. I’ve re-read them all a couple of times now. Definitely my favorites. I have been looking forward to Colton and Veronica’s story for a while now. I pre-ordered in October but life happened and I just got to read it. I love it!! There’s the perfect amount of sass, resistance, and steam to leave you wanting more Jackson Harbor romances and hook-ups!

    Only Lexi Ryan could take two anti heroes and redeem them in the most deserving of ways. One a villain who ruined her sister’s wedding by getting pregnant by the groom, and one a former drug addict once accused of battery on his girl friend, neither had a pleasant past, but both were working double time to have an optimistic future. Both needed love and acceptance to move forward from their past. Who best to understand the struggle than someone also going through the thick of it? Not all villains are bad, and Lexi gives them the HEA they deserve. A fitting end to the series.

    It was lovely to be back in Jackson Harbor, this time with Colton and Veronica. These are 2 troubled characters, that have made mistakes in their pasts, mistakes that still haunt them. Veronica is a single mom to Jacks, trying to hold her life together, independent, and reluctant to lean on anyone for help. Colton is an addict, getting his life together, part owner of a business.
    This was a great lesson into not judging others - Colton sees one side of Veronica, who has a lot on her plate, that she does not share with Colton. There's plenty of tension between these two, stemming from a one night stand one year before.
    I really enjoyed this book, it was good to see this pair working through issues, though I did feel I wanted just a bit more for the finish of the book (hence dropping 1/2 a star). But I was delighted to read there will be more coming from the characters of Jackson Harbor in the Jackson Harbor Heartbreaker series.
