Need a Little Time Kindle Edition

4.6 4.6 out of 5 stars 1,909 ratings

Sometimes, the strangest things can happen, right on your doorstep.

When you find out your best friend and business partner is secretly sleeping with your wife, it may be time to move on… From your job and your marriage... Which is precisely what happened to Jamie Newgent.

A change of lifestyle is what’s needed, and a bachelor pad on the fourth floor of a jutting tower provides a new home, a fresh start, and a new chapter in his life.

Little does he know of the weird and wonderful journey he’s about to take, or the effects a temporal rift has on the building plumbing and his troublesome toaster.

He’s living in the middle of an anomaly sandwich, with a retro woman upstairs, and a feisty hippy downstairs. But will either of them become anything more than friends?

And, If it came down to it, would he be able to make the ultimate sacrifice to save a life:

Could he go back to an era before the Internet and Smartphones?

Before we got obsessed with the intricacies and implications of time travel we used to just imagine what it would be like. Finding yourself actually back in time. Being careful but also exploring the amazing situation you’re now in.
This simple story captures that magical wonder without endlessly debating the inevitable paradoxes. It even comes with an out-loud laugh near the end. Thanks, Adam, for a delightful read.

Though at about 60-70% through you may have guessed the relationships, you cannot put this down until the end! Great character development, a few twists. Very well written, if only I could find more like it.

This story kept me hooked waiting for the next step. The main character goes from being a sad, lonely broken person who has no joy in life, to discovering that life can hand out happiness as well as trouble as he travels back and forth through time. I highly recommend it. Love love stories with a happy ending. Life is hard enough that we do not need to read unhappy books.

After reading "System Restored," I knew I had to read more of Adam Eccles work. My only complaint about this book was that I saw things coming before, Jamie, did.

That said, Eccles, made up for that by writing relatable and likable characters, and while I could see things coming I was curious enough to keep reading to find out how.

Also, as a man in my mid-40s-- I see a bit of both Jamie Newgent and System Restored's Derek Cooper in myself.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant! My only complaint was I wish it was longer!

I planned on reading this over the course of the next two weeks... instead I finished it in two days. Oops. Hilariously written, with a cool twist on time travel and the functions within it. Gave myself a bit of a headache trying to figure out the timeline, but the best thing to do with temporal paradoxes is to just ignore them. They'll eventually go away ;)

5.0 out of 5 stars Just brilliant

One of the very best books I have ever read. Adam Eccles is rapidly becoming one of my favourite authors.

The humour displayed throughout his writing, and his storytelling in general are simply outstanding.

If you like time travel stories you will love this. The cause of the time travelling is so believable (if you like a bit of sci-fi) that it makes the story so much more enjoyable. At times I was reminded of the movie "Frequency", but as this is one of my favourite films this was certainly not a negative point for me.

The characters are all really likeable, especially Molly, the young woman who is the downstairs neighbour of Jamie, the main, time-travelling character. Their back and forth with silly notes they slip under each other's doors is hilarious.

There is no bad language, no violence, and a properly happy ending, with plenty of humour thrown in along the way. Don't be put off though, it's a great story that I couldn't put down. There is a slight "twist" of sorts towards the end, you will see it coming a mile off, I did and am usually a bit thick about these things! It didn't affect the story though, and the reveal was beautifully done.

A superb read from a brilliant author.

4.0 out of 5 stars A bit longwinded in the beginning, but nice

It's not a typical time travelling story. Takes about two thirds of the book for the main character to even realize , that he is traveling in time, not just simply going up the stairs to visit his neighbour. Some things that are mostly overlooked in after books like "my 2020 money and identification are not valid in 1990" are also discussed. Likable, well described characters! For me 4 stars means: Not 100% perfect, but maybe 95% almost perfect

If you want to have great read with love and humour, this is the way to go. Throw in time portals, endearing characters and smooth dialogue Adam Eccles is your man. Can’t wait to read another one of his novels.
