- Reviewed in the United States on August 12, 2024...Western cultivation tale. The story is riddled with mundane happenings; but the author's writing gets you so absorbed in the MC, you breeze through them turning page after page. After about a third of the way through the book, the story really accelerates as the MC starts looking at a wider world.
There are several cultivation tropes which make their appearance, but not like what you expect. For instance, there's a sect: just not like one you've read about before (at least I haven't!). Side characters are fleshed out a bit more than in most cultivation stories, and they have good depth too.
The 600+/- pages makes for a good read. The story keeps you turning the page. And, the characters are worth investing yourself in. Overall, this is one series worth taking the time for!
- Reviewed in the United States on October 30, 2024This series has grown to be easily in my top 5 for Western Cultivation Fantasies.
The world building is massive in scope, while it gets off to a slow start, this series quickly grows to a relatively fast pace, balancing just the right amount of action with character building.
And Our MC!!!! Truly a wonder to see him develop and grow as the chapters progress.
One of the things that I love the most about him is that he doesn’t behave in an overly irrational or emotional way. He makes decisions in a very calculated way.
He also has his own principles, that he stands by even in the face of what feels like insurmountable dangers.
Anyways, I’ve read through Chapter 486 (on Patreon/Royal Road), and I’ve got to say, please stick around. It’s definitely been worth it so far.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 18, 2024Great take on the Cultivation genre. I couldn't put the book down. Great action scenes and lots of mysteries to keep you guessing. Really enjoyed the world building as well. Can't wait to read the rest of the series.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 7, 2024I think the story worked okay for me. Between 5%-25% give or take, I had to push through out of boredom. I needed just a tiny reason more to care about what was happening. The pacing throughout the book was a bit slow even after I was good to finish.
To sum up: only 2 complaints, better and more interesting promises, pacing. And both of those were minor things.

5.0 out of 5 stars A very good mix of elements in there
An interesting eastern and western ideas flawlessly executed. Hope to see way more of this and find what more the author has to bring to the table.

3.0 out of 5 stars very very slow burn but it looks frustratingly interesting for now
Story: interesting but the MC, the thought process and the rationale is absolutely frustrating, the book went on about a lot of world building without actually describing much, a lot of detail without any intricacy, sometimes I felt like skipping a page just to get to the interesting bit
Writing: easy to read and follow without any obvious grammatical or spelling mistakes

4.0 out of 5 stars A great start
I'm liking the characters and story more as I read along. There are some mistakes here and there but they are just bumps in the road of a good story. Cheers!

5.0 out of 5 stars Solid opening to a great story
For those familiar with the genre, this is a classic cultivation xianxia that includes many western fantasy elements for the setting and the world.
It's a good and well written story. The chapter length, writing style and pacing make it a compelling, breezy read. The focus of the story is the stoic main character Red, his growth and his encounters with a dangerous but fascinating world. The side cast is also great fun, but I'd like to keep this review spoiler free, so I will stop here. This is a good pick for fantasy lovers.
The Amazon version of this story is a rework of the original release, and has been professionally edited and published. It's great both for the old fans and new readers.
