The Adventures of Lady Ellen Montagu series is complete! Conclude with New London, Book 3, in this historical, Irish, romance saga.

An epic, reverse harem, Victorian drama, spanning 2 decades, & involving 4 suitors. Whom will Lady Ellen choose? Lose yourself in the adventure!
“I know that,” I said defensively, “but was she dressed?”
“Yes,” he answered, “she was wearing a corset…” He leaned down and kissed my sternum.
“What?” I exclaimed, pushing his head off me. I sat in the bed, glaring down at him.
Cormac took a handful of my hair between his fingers. “Lie down, Ellen,” he instructed, ignoring my agitation.
“I feel sick,” I told him, pulling his fingers off my hair, “sick to my stomach.”
“Why?” he questioned. He sat, also, and started to kiss the side of my neck.
“I do not know,” I responded, “I just feel ill.” I tried to push him away, but he grasped my hand in his much stronger one and threaded his fingers through mine.
“I can make you feel better,” he said confidently, tugging on my earlobe with his teeth. “Lie down. Now. Please.”
“Stop ordering me about,” I protested, “you only wish to do this with me because you saw her body. She is lovely – with red hair…” I knew I was being ridiculous, sulking like a child, but I did not care.
Cormac laughed openly at my comment. “Red hair?” he said incredulously. He pushed me onto the bed and climbed on top of me.
“Yes,” I said, “with pretty, green eyes. You must have noticed.”
“I have been distracted, Ellen. Utterly distracted with something else.” Cormac leaned down and kissed the other side of my neck.
“I know you saw,” I pressed, feeling heat in my cheeks, “you must have. She is stunning.”
“She is commonplace. A rural beauty, perhaps, but she has no refinement in her features – nothing at all inside her head. Not to mention her lack of morality. I was not tempted in the least, and yes, I have been most distracted by a raven-haired woman with eyes the likes of which I have never seen before. You are astonishingly beautiful, Ellen. How can you not know this?” Cormac ran his tongue along my neck and then, bit down, making me gasp.

Editorial Reviews
Review
"I devoured this book. It is book three in a trilogy and I've not read book one. I did read book two and loved it. This book truly completes the tapestry of the lives of those herein, and in ways I had not expected. Truly a beautiful and touching story with unexpected twists in this period novel. Five stars" - Mary Schmidt (author of When Angels Fly)
"I literally could not put this book down. I read it in about 8 hours! I felt as if I was standing alongside the characters watching the scene unfold! I will miss them! Though at times I felt like I wanted to shake Ellen, which is a testament to the emotions that J.G. MacLeod stirred with her writing! Very well done and highly recommended!" - (Amazon Reviewer)
"You never know what to expect from the talented author MacLeod. I thought I might be getting a sedate lyrical romantic third in the series ending for Lady Ellen books. That turned out wrong. Though the book has a slow start with the pregnant with 3rd child Lady Ellen beginning anew life in the dangerous Ontario, Canada frontier with her noble husband, it rapidly moves into a maelstrom of terror in a tale of revenge and retribution through a former nemesis." - Red Butler, author of Wild Wilful Heart (Amazon Reviewer)
"So good. Amazing. Couldn't put it down. Reading until 2 am. Love historical fiction. Loved how it tied in with Lady Ellen's journey from Ireland to Canada. Knew a lot of actual places mentioned in the book." - Louise Dedman (Amazon Reviewer)
"I like the mix of humour, sadness, and historical facts portrayed throughout the book. For example, some of the things Cormac does are quite humorous, which contrast with the more serious topics discussed. When Lady Ellen learns about the roles of women outside her own aristocratic station, it shows an innocence of the culture of the era. I like the idea that she's naive, because people are too hardened, too young, nowadays." - (Amazon Reviewer)
From the Author
Lady Ellen has matured from Irish aristocrat to Canadian immigrant. As she adjusts to her new home, new adventures (and dangers) await her. Readers who have followed this strong heroine from the beginning will be pleased with the final installment in her journey towards womanhood.
J.G. MacLeod wrote this series for entertainment purposes. She intended it to be a light, cozy read for people who like a little fantasy in their historical romances. The author also wished to remain true to the style of courtship that was common in the Victorian era, hence why this book contains actual romance rather than immediate gratification.
New London does contain some scenes that deal with domestic violence, which may be triggering for some readers. Use caution when reading, and take care of yourself if you are affected by them.

You never know what to expect from the talented author MacLeod. I thought I might be getting a sedate lyrical romantic third in the series ending for Lady Ellen books. That turned out wrong. Though the book has a slow start with the pregnant with 3rd child Lady Ellen beginning a new life in the dangerous Ontario, Canada frontier with her noble husband, it rapidly moves into a maelstrom of terror in a tale of revenge and retribution through a former nemesis. Lady Ellen is sent through the flaming hoops of injustice and all the while with child, and her three others in tow. Yikes. Oh sure the book is filled with love triangles, the trademark domestic Taming of the Shrew amusing male/female dialogue, but this time Lady Ellen is going to get dirty in a much darker tale. This reminded me of the old serials of the 20s-30s, and could be parody titled, ‘The Perils of Pauline Whilst Proceeding Pregnant.’ This time around she throws odd characters at us like snarky ladies of the night, a spooky gypsy fortuneteller, and an all business Indian healer. After a grave tragedy, Lady Ellen is forced into becoming a victim of nefarious conspiracy. Terrors! Watch for a poignant moment of note with a remarkable Christmas miracle so well depicted. Truly, there are more twists and turns in this one than MC Hammer with hammerpants full of Brazilian fire ants. There is a harried escape. A healing from PTSD that is examined quite well. We see justice in all its glory. This 3rd in the series is filled with characters that represent well, yet have ulterior motives, and the story shows well what happens to people with such motives. The book is also laced with comedic spots of relief, notable is a terrifically amusing scene where Lady Ellen learns to cook for the first time (think Scarlett O’Hara on the Porky Pig acid from 1977). At last an endearing close to the series, with a reveal into the elaborate path of God’s serendipity. The truth is we often don’t have to be very old to look at the patterns of where and why things happen to see the hand of God moving us through life.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 10, 2022Blend historical fiction. Weave an enticing romance. Create an intriguing plo with wonderful characters and engaging dialogue and I’m hooked! This isn’t my first ‘get lost in a wonderfully embroidered tapestry of (my favorite era-Victorian)love and the obstacles, doubts, and strength! No spoilers here! It certainly can stand alone, but, I highly recommend that you grab book #1 and #2! 5+⭐️
- Reviewed in the United States on February 8, 2022It’s not my usual reading style to start reading from the last page of the book, neither do I have a habit to begin reading series from the final instalment. Still, I don’t regret that my acquaintance with Lady Ellen has started in this manner. First, I felt more intrigued while trying to untangle the events of the past, and second, there was enough intrigue, gasp moments, and adventure in “New London” to keep me glued to its pages.
“New London” by J.G. MacLeod is a final instalment of the historical romance series “Adventures of Lady Ellen Montagu”. The book is set in 19th century Canada, the country that is still unsettled in its ways, with the inhabitants who are trying to find themselves and make this new land their home.
Lady Ellen and Lord Ardilaun are Irish immigrants in Upper Canada. In addition to difficulties many immigrants irrespective of their social status face in a new place, this couple is struggling with personal unsolved issues and unanswered questions they brought with them from their homeland. It doesn’t help Lady Ellen and Lord Ardilaun to settle fully into cosy, domestic bliss since people from their past have chosen Canada as their new home too.
The book is full of unexpected plot twists. At first, it lulls the readers into believing that this is a story of aristocrats, who have found themselves in a challenging situation, but with wealth and influence, their problems remain on the level of “soul wanderings”. But then the author throws in one twist after another, and you find that you cannot imagine what will happen next in the characters’ lives.
I loved the realistic portrayal of Lady Ellen. She is naïve, and although life hasn’t always treated her as one would expect considering her status, her basic needs have been taken care of by servants and other people. She is stubborn and her abilities to evaluate different situations are definitely lacking. But she has inner strength, as well as warmth and intuition.
I will definitely read the first two books of “Adventures of Lady Ellen Montagu”. I look forward to meeting the characters in Ireland. I am certain that the beginning of Lady Ellen’s story is no less vivid and fascinating than its brilliant finale.
