Merciless (DI Kate Fletcher Book 2) Kindle Edition
Two suspicious deaths. One missing teenager.
DI Kate Fletcher is called out to a freezing canal where the body of a woman is found floating in a lock. Without ID, the police struggle to piece together the details of her life.
In Thorpe, a daughter confesses to killing her father. Is it mercy or murder?
As Kate and her team investigate, the links between the two cases are inescapable and everything seems to lead back to the disappearance of a Thorpe teenager in the 1980s.
Then the main suspect vanishes…
Can Kate connect the events of past and present to bring the culprit to justice?

- Reviewed in the United States on May 20, 2020This is the second book in a series. After reading and enjoying the first one, I moved right on. I think these books are well thought out and interesting enough to keep one's attention without being overly dramatic. I found myself thinking that the characters and premises were fairly realistic, which helps me accept the story, unlike some mysteries that are more fantastic. One thing that would help me identify more with the team would be to flesh them out, being careful not to let personalities get in the way of the meat of the story.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 28, 2021I enjoyed the location of the story. I had a second cousin who lived in the area and had a narrow boat made, 6’ by 60’, to live in and travel the canals. Unfortunately, he died of cancer before he was able to use it. His name was Bryan Newbern and he drove a double decker bus, which, after his death, was named after him.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 14, 2018I loved this book so much. I love mystery/thrillers. It’s a nice break from YA. It starts out with a woman found murdered. Then another woman confesses to killing her father who has cancer. Now, we learn that her sister was killed in the same manor but it wasn’t considered murder. Are they all connected somehow? This keeps you on your toes with all of the cases not sure what’s going to happen next. I don’t quite know how to review this without giving too much away but, I’m telling you. You have to read this if you love mysteries.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 4, 2018This is the second installment in a brand new series and it doesn't disappoint. Great, carefully thought out plot with lots of twists and turns executed by a team that is gelling into a force to be reckoned with. I eagerly await future additions to this great crime series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not G-rated due to some violence
I really liked this book, but enjoyed the previous one in the series more. I hard a hard time getting through some of the sections that we violent even though they also seemed necessary. I’m still going to keep going in the series. If you like the tv series happy valley I think you’d like these

5.0 out of 5 stars Family fortune
A very gripping sociological thriller you can never trust your family. Nice flow with many twists and turns and unexpected events that seem unrelated which blend very well.

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting story with believable characters
Liked the mystery of who was involved in the disappearance and murders and what had happened in the past. Some coincidences but overall a good read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Merciless
In this book there is no doubt about the identity of the killer, that is revealed very early in the narrative although the nature of their crime isn't immediately clear. In this series the author does not go to great pains to hide the identity of the perpetrator, apparently preferring to concentrate on other aspects of the storyline and it works very well for her. There was some element of mystery as one person was referred to only by a single initial for much of the book which gives scope for speculation
Of the three books in this series this one is my least favoured but that doesn't mean I didn't like it. I did find it a little intrusive that so much time was spent reflecting back on historical events which led to the perpetrator's actions. Despite that, I still finished it in a single day and took every opportunity to read it, even if only for a few moments at a time.
