No Dirty Secrets

Rate this book
One chance encounter has the power to either make her dreams come true or destroy her future.

I’m a fish out of water, straight out of my element, living in the big city until it’s time to go home. Picking up the pieces of my family’s shattered life. It’s an all-consuming, solo pursuit, leaving no time for anything else… or anyone.

But I make an exception for the Marine who lives next door. The one who hears me crying and knocks on the wall separating us, making sure to let me know I’m not alone.

He’s too much for me. Too smart. Too hot. Too damn intrusive.

I know it’s only temporary, but I can’t stay away.

When the past comes crashing into the present and threatens the future, Cole gives me a reason to fight… but that fight is gonna cost me everything.

Including him.

This is Casper & Cole’s story.
No Dirty Secrets is a teacher/hero meet-cute romantic suspense with a happily ever after. Each book in the Birch Harbor: Coming Home series can be read as a stand-alone, but the stories and characters do interconnect.

Wow! This story has great chemistry in Cole and Casper and the story of how they meet just sucked me in. It's not an easy road, especially because there is a twist that I didn't see coming and had my head reeling. I enjoyed this so much.

HOLY BANANAS! I’ve been outwitted! Shenanigans!

You guys, this story was all kinds of good! These two had spark, they bantered well together, the story flowed well and it read realistically and very relatable. None of it was even remotely out of the realm of possibility. This is what I liked best! But listen, (lol) this plot point comes at us and BAM .. I mean, WELL PLAYED April Canavan! This is how you make me happy! You write a story that keeps me invested and rolling thru it not necessarily knowing what’s going to happen but pretty sure because I read so many books and then … wow. It wasn’t so much that it was life altering or anything, it’s just that you don’t really see it coming and the ripple effect of it is all wait, what now? STOP.IT!

LOVED.IT. Go one-click right now. I insist on it!

Sidebar: I have to tell you guys something because, LMFAO >>> What is even happening with that face he’s making on the cover?!?! (I haven’t stopped laughing since it landed on my kindle) #notattractive #sendhelp

5 Star Review Cocky Corporal (Cocky Hero Club) by April Canavan
Cocky Corporal is part of The Cocky Hero Club inspired by Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward. Having loved that book, I was intrigued by the blurb and could not wait to read and review, particularly since April Canavan is a a relatively new author to me.

I was hooked on the story that Ms. Canavan wove from the first to the last chapter. I really loved the main characters of Cole Morgan and Casper Townsend. My heart just about broke for Casper, trying to deal with the death of her twin Cassie.

Meeting Cole, Casper is attracted to him but he is in the military and shipping out again after he gets his medical clearance. When she finds out that he was Cassie’s neighbour she believes that fate has brought them together.

As they spend more time together, the attraction and chemistry sizzles between them
This story had some angst, great banter and was well written but it was the twists and turns that kept me reading well into the night.

I really enjoyed this book so much. Casper and Cole wonderfully completed each other. Even though they were only going to be in the same area for a short time, they formed a connection that wouldn’t let go.

Their buildup was not rushed and I liked that. Cole was there to help Casper through the aftermath of losing her sister and having to pack up her house. He was dealing with his own stressors but didn’t want to tell anyone.

There was a little bit of a twist that I didn’t see coming right away and all the drama that ensued totally surprised me. It I absolutely loved the way everything worked out.

Also loved seeing Graham and Soraya again.

This was a new to me author and one I'll definitely be reading more from.
Wow what a book.
With lovable characters and plot, you won't be able to put it down once you start.
I was quite proud of myself, thinking I had things figured out quite early on. Boy was I wrong!! Did not see that twist coming. Hope we get a follow up, as would love to know the reasons why, talk about madness.
Definitely a great addition to the Cocky World and throughly reccomend.

Casper and Cole's story was magnificent! I felt so many emotions throughout the book. Grief, anger, hope, happiness, despair and shock at some surprising twists. This was another well written book in the Cocky Hero Club world.

The story of Casper & Cole is a military suspense romance filled with emotions. It’s the 2nd in the series but has no connection to the first one, so it’s 100% standalone.

I guess it’s an ok book overall but just didn’t click for me.
I don’t want to spoil anything so I’ll just say that everything felt way too rushed, from the moment they met, to the feelings developed, to the final act. The shadow of the past events was too prominent and I couldn’t feel any chemistry between the MCs.

I was also annoyed with the use of protection. Apparently if you use it once, it’s no longer needed? 😕

-Dual 1st person POV
-Spice: 🌶️🌶️.5

2.75/5 ⭐️ for me.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Casper is in town for another month, stuck there after having gotten a ticket for parking in the wrong place at the hospital where her sister was taken. Now her sister is gone and she's got to pack up her house. When the gorgeous but cocky guy from court turns out to be her sister's neighbor, perhaps a fling can be had...After all, she's not here forever, he's in the military and lives elsewhere, so neither is in the market for something serious. Even if feelings might be developing.

Cole's amnesia, the reason he's in town rather than on deployment, might be a major obstacle to anything they might be feeling, though. And Casper will have to decide just how much she is willing to take. Will she open up or keep Cole at a distance?

Cocky Corporal is another excellent addition to the Cocky Hero Club. Soraya and Graham fit in perfectly with Casper's sass, Cole's cockiness, and the emotional, suspenseful storyline. I loved sweet, sassy Casper and her cocky corporal, Cole.

I gotta say, 5 stars just doesn't do this book justice...it deserves so many more, and April is an EVIL GENIUS!!!! What she did with this story was magical, and she makes you feel all the feelings!! Casper goes to New York to settle things for her sister who she lost in a tragic accident, what makes it even worse, it's like she's lost a part of herself because Cassie was her twin. She's rushing to get to her when she gets to the hospital and doesn't realize she's parked in the wrong place. Next thing ya know she's in court because she's gotten a ticket. She meets Soraya who is also there because of a ticket, and there is an immediate bond between them, she also meets Cole who is there for Graham to spy on Soraya...Cole is in the military and he's home because he was coincidentally in an accident which he has no memory of. Is it coincidence, or divine intervention that Cole happens to be Cassie's next door neighbor? So Cole and Casper start spending some time together, and the attraction grows. The one thing, ok there is really more than one thing keeping them apart like the fact Casper lives in a different state, and Cole is in the military so he'll be shipping out again once he gets cleared by the doctor. In the meantime....they could play a little maybe, or a lot??? Lol There's also a HOLY CRAP ON A CRACKER!!! twist that you won't see comin' or at least I didn't!! I can't recommend this book enough, y'all need to read this book!!!

This story will have you all in your feelings. It has passion, lust, drama, and heartache. It also have survival and strength of the strongest people. Casper never thought she would be standing in her sisters apartment without her. Her heartache is like no other being a twin and losing that one person you have been connected to since being conceived. But here she is trying to pack up her sisters life and move on as best as she can. When she comes face-to-face with a handsome man that makes her feel things like throat punching him she doesn't know what to do. Cole is on leave from the military after an accident has him missing part of his life. All he wants to do is fight and heal and get back into his position. When he runs into Casper he knows there is more to her than meets the eye. These two will bicker, laugh, love, cry, and when the truth of Casper's sister accident is reveal they will break. But sometimes you have to break in order to be put back together again. Can these two heal each other inside and out?

Cocky Corporal is April Canavan's contribution to the Cocky Hero Club, a collection of books/authors inspired by Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward. Canavan was a new to me author but I'll definitely be reading more from this new voice.

As an identical twin this book ripped my heart wide open and wrecked me. Around 3:30 this morning I found myself unable to sleep and thought "eh I'll read for a while, that usually tires me out..." this book did anything but that. I was hooked from the first page and I finished it at 6am.

Cole Morgan and Casper Townsend were such intriguing characters, each one fighting battles in their hearts and minds. Casper is grieving an unimaginable loss and Cole cannot remember the accident that's keeping him from his military unit. Their interaction were so compelling, sometimes cute, sometimes heartbreaking but each one proves how valuable having someone to lean on in our struggles really is.

Having the lovable Soraya and Graham and their kids from past books beautifully broke up some of the angsty parts and brought me lightness to the story. I thought I had the story figured out but there is a twist I totally didn't see coming! Fantastic read and addition to the club!

This story is a wonderful addition to this amazing series and is Cole and Casper’s journey. Casper goes to New York to settle her twin sister Cassie’s affairs after she is in a fatal accident, and my heart broke for her as she is trying to cope with the death of her other half. Cole is in the military and is home on medical leave and once he gets the clearance, he needs he will be shipping out again. Cole is Cassie’s next-door neighbour, and from the moment he and Casper meet the chemistry is sizzling. This is a well written story which is weaved in such a way that I was completely captivated throughout this riveting and emotional roller coaster. This tale has a tad angst, witty banter, heartbreak, secrets, emotions, and an unexpected twist which I certainly never saw coming. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend for all.

Cocky Corporal my first book from April Canavan, not sure why, because I devoured it. Family was the name of the game in this book and those connections made everything that much more relatable. Plus getting a heaping dose of Soraya and Graham was a real delight.

I was rooting for Casper from the first page. I liked her kindness and compassion. Her tender heart that was broken but wouldn't be defeated. And how she couldn't get the handsome Cole out of her mind. And Cole was in the same boat. Too bad he was leaving soon. He couldn't afford to catch feelings.

I was so not expecting the wild turn this book took towards the end. Talk about heart pounding & stomach dropping! I was reading as fast as my eyes would allow to see how everything would pan out and I think my heart is still racing. Cole and Casper's unexpected romance was sharp, emotional and playful and I hung on every word

After the sudden and tragic death of her twin sister Casper is devastated as she undergoes the painful task of going through her sister’s home. A chance meeting with Soraya in the most unlikely of places and they become fast friends which is how Graham’s cousin Cole comes into her life.

After a car accident of which he has no recollection he finds himself on injury leave which gives him the opportunity to not only spend time with his family but to get to know Casper, his sexy neighbor as well. There is no denying the chemistry between them even though their plans for the future are very different, but a truth is about to be revealed that changes everything.

This story takes us on an emotional ride with a whole lotta heat and a little suspense as the characters draw you in and have you invested in their happy ever after.

She never imagined that life could get better after the devastating loss of her twin sister but here she was in court pleading to a judge to forgive her for parking illegally in ambulance parking the night it happened. Everything was falling apart. Just when she thought I can't take anymore, he showed up with his piercing green eyes, godlike physique and a cocky attitude that both annoyed her beyond measure while simultaneously igniting a fire of yearning in every bit of her core. She was here to wrap up her sister's things and nothing else but kismet had other plans for Casper Townsend.
Canavan fires on all cylinders with this steamy thriller that brings you to the edge of knowledge and then bam! Twist!! Satisfy your mind and imagination while you watch Cocky Corporal Cole melt into the heart, mind and body of Casper.

I have read quite a few of the books in this series and this one is another enjoyable addition with the added benefit of containing Graham and Soraya who readers met in Stuck-Up Suit. Cole is back in town because of an accident he suffered which leaves him with amnesia and unfit for duty. Casper is in town to deal with her sister’s belongings after her untimely death. As Cole and Casper do not meet under ideal circumstances, each one is a support for the other as he helps her deal with her grief and she helps him deal with his lack of remembering. This is a well written, slow build to romance filled with drama, witty banter and some serious attraction that will keep readers engaged as the pages turn.

Sexy, fun, and emotional.
I like these characters Cole and his brothers have a great relationship. I love their Grandmother. She tells each of her Grand kids they are her favorite. She is a hoot!
I like Graham and Soraya. They like to tease each other. You can tell their love is strong.
It is emotional to see Casper deal with the loss of her twin sister. She has the support of her family and Cole.
I like the scenes in the war zone. It is amazing that the characters come together.
I hope you like this book as much as I do. This is a wonderful addition to the Hero Club Novels.

I was pulled right into this story. The story has laughs, steam, secrets, pain, and heartbreak.

This is Casper and Cole's story. These two have a ton of chemistry and blend well together. But they only have 30 days together. She needs to get back home, and he needs to get back to work but a head injury is preventing that. He has turned into a peeping tom for his neighbor that is hot and very accident prone. But these two are keeping secrets and when they come out what is going to happen to them? Will this be the end or a building block for what they could have in the future?

I felt I could connect with the characters and the story was a great read.

I recommend this book.

Casper & Cole were a couple I enjoyed reading about. I loved the way that April Canavan wrote this story. Every single time I thought I knew how everything was going - and was going to turn out - she flipped all my notions on their heads and out the window. She has a new fan!

With awesome secondary characters, great banter and heartfelt moments, this book is one that I wholeheartedly and unreservedly recommend. I also look forward to the stories of all the singles introduced in this book *wink*

I voluntarily read & reviewed an ARC of this book.

Roller coaster feelings. Through out the book I climbed one emotion and slid down the next. Happy and sad. Love and anger. Grieving and rejoicing. Casper goes to pack up her deceased twin's home and the sense of loss comes straight out of the book. From there it is chance meetings, unexpected friendships, and maybe a betrayal by the hero of the story? Enter the sister's boyfriend. Plot twist, ingenious character reveals and happily ever after brought the book to a close after a couple chapters on the edge of my seat.

Cocky Corporal was great! This book just sucks you in and holds your attention with all the ups, downs and emotions. After a tragedy, Casper's in traffic court when she meets a wonderful woman and her husband's cocky cousin, Cole. Unbeknownst to them, they'll be neighbors for the next few weeks. The chemistry between Casper and Cole is hot, intense and passionate. You can feel their connection. There was just the right amount of drama, steam, suspense and twists. I loved Casper and Cole and enjoyed watching their story play out. It flowed well and the cast of characters were fabulous. The ending was great and made me very happy!

Cole sure is cocky but adorable as well ! Love how you read about soraya and graham as well. This was a bit of a heartbreaking story, but also full of hope. At the end I was getting all misty eyed : you will know when you read it. There was a couple of twists in the book I did see one of them coming, I put two and two together but the other one.... no way wasn’t expecting that !
Great book I would have loved though a bit more of an epilogue... more into the future.

A wonderful emotionally beautiful story by April who was a new author to me. Casper and Cole meet during a time when they are both going through loss and trauma and with a instant connection they take us through an emotional journey. I was hooked from the start and I couldn’t put it down. This book is part of The Cocky Hero Club but can be read as a standalone. I received this book as an arc for my honest opinion.

Wow!!! I think I'm going to have to go back and read this one again. The story pulled me in right away and didn't let go. Usually new authors take awhile for me to warm up too, but Ms. Canavan is a gifted author who's books I will be looking up. Cole and Casper go through a journey to get their HEA and I never saw that twist coming. For me, that's the sign of an author who knows what she/he is doing. For sure this is going in my re-read pile!!!

I love April Canavan’s stories! And this one is so good! She definitely knows how to suck you into a story and keep you there!

This is Casper and Cole’s story, with a lot of Graham and Soraya to make you smile. This is an emotional roller coaster and I’m here for it. It will make you feel at the feelings.

There is a bit of everything in this story, some drama, some suspense and just the right amount of steam, plus the opportunity for more stories from other characters in the book. Do not miss out on this one!

Excellent book!

Cole and Casper. He knew she was special when he first saw her in traffic court. He was there because his cousin wanted the goods on his wife, suspecting she’d gotten another ticket. Said wife claimed she was there to lend moral support to her friend. Said friend looked at her like “what the hell, I don’t know you”. Then friend is called before the judge and starts explaining why she was parked in the emergency vehicle spot at the ER. She was trying to reach her sister in time, but she didn’t make it. It was too late for her sister. The woman’s tears broke his heart . He gave it to her right on the spot.
