No Life for a Lady, by Adele Clee, is the last book in her fantastic Ladies of the Order series set in England during the Regency period. Each of Adele Clee’s other series (wonderful reading, btw!) consist of four books. However, there are FIVE books in this series. Woven within an incredible stand-alone plot, the heroes and heroines in the first four books make appearances, giving the reader a pleasant look into how their lives have turned out. For me, No Life for a Lady is an amazing literary feast celebrating the series.
Having read all of Adele Clee’s books, most recently the Ladies of the Order, I have been waiting with great anticipation for this amazing book. No Life for a Lady surpassed all my wishes for a wonderful read. The emotions it drew from me were both bittersweet and joyful. Bittersweet because it is the end of a fantastic series, but joyful because two long-suffering, cruelly treated people find true love and despicable villains finally receive long overdue justice.
When the Order’s female enquiry agents (heroines) in the first four books are not investigating and actively working for the Order, they live in a home run by Miss Trimble. However, Miss Trimble is no mere chaperone or housekeeper. She is highly educated and becomes a friend to each woman. But Miss Trimble is not her name and she is hiding from her past in fear.
Mr. Daventry, the Order’s leader, introduces her to Mr. Alexander Grayson to aid them both with solving a mystery from the past that has viciously affected both of their lives. Surrounded by cruelty, lies and life-threatening danger, she and Alexander must learn to trust each other in order to protect themselves as they seek to learn the secret of the mystery.
In No Life for a Lady, Adele Clee has spun a thrilling mystery within a heart-warming romance. No Life for a Lady is an absolutely amazing book. I highly recommend it.
