Schuss Kindle Edition

4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars 334 ratings

Stacey Evans wants only one thing: to be the best alpine ski racer she can be. Everything else—like her sweet and ultra-supportive best friend, and hot-but-vapid girlfriend—is just a bonus. Fresh from a medal at her first Olympics, Stacey knows she can only get better and is firmly focused on the future, and totally not thinking about how she’s kind of a little in love with that sweet, ultra-supportive best friend…

Gemma Archer has had a crush on Stacey from the moment she first saw her, but being her best friend is so amazing that she’s almost managed to push that crush aside. Almost. But even if Gemma finds the courage to tell Stacey how she really feels, there’s a mountain of obstacles to overcome—like the fact that Gemma’s stepmom is Stacey’s coach (awkward) and Gemma will be going away to college in a few months. And most importantly…what if admitting how she feels ruins the best friendship she’s ever had?

Schuss brings back two beloved supporting characters from E. J. Noyes’ bestselling, award-winning novel Gold.

Editorial Reviews

Review

... E. J. Noyes has this way of writing characters that you get completely absorbed into. When we were left with the Gemma and Stacey cliffhanger in Gold, I was hoping we’d get their story and it was phenomenal.-NetGalley, Les Bereading

E. J. Noyes has done it again! She’s created a book that allows you into the minds of the characters and lets you immerse yourself in the setting, so you gladly get lost in the world and have no need for rescue.-The Lesbian Review

J. argues with her hair and pretends to be good at things.

E. J. Noyes is an Australian transplanted to New Zealand, which may be the awesomest thing to happen to her. She lives in the South Island with her wife and the world’s best and neediest cat, and is enjoying the change of temperature from her hot, humid homeland.

An avid but mediocre gamer, E. J. lives for skiing (which she is also mediocre at), enjoys arguing with her hair, pretending to be good at things, and working the fact she’s a best-selling and award-winning author into casual conversation.

Watch out for her next Bella Books novel, Merry Weihnachten, due out in December 2024.

I enjoyed this follow-up book from Gold by EJ Noyes. It was wonderful chemistry, still strong from their original meet. It was a slow-burn, young adult (18 yo, 20 yo) friends to lovers story.
I loved the characters. The angst was low, but well done.
I have enjoyed the books I've read by Noyes and look forward to more in the future.

This story is different from the others I've read from this author. She did well telling the story of these two MCs and things flowed well. I will say it was a little less emotionally charged than her other works, but I think that's because it's a YA novel. Usually her words have you so invested that you can't put the book down. This one is a nice easy read that holds your attention, but is also an easy book to put down and come back to it later to finish. Well done Noyes on your first YA novel.

This was a great follow-up to Gold. I love catching up with previous Couples, but even more so years later when their lives are flourishing. Aspen and Cate are happy.

Gemma and Stacey....👏👏👏 They met in the first book as kids. Now BFFs and adults, they discover what they truly mean to each other. They were super cute.

This book was just okay to me. One of the worst Noyes books I’ve read… but her worst is some people’s best

I have read all of of her books (they are all excellent) but GOLD will always be my favorite book of Ms. Notes and I have hoped for a sequel to it for years. When Schuss popped up in my kindle I was just ecstatic! It is a wonderful story that checks all the boxes. It is hot, sweet and tells Gem's and Stacy's story of young love just perfectly! I hope the author takes note and understands that in a few years we EXPECT TO SEE part 3 because there is just so much more we want to learn about Gem, Stace, Cate and Aspen's lives!!! The only way this book would have been anymore perfect is if we has seen even more of Cate and Aspen as their love story In GOLD was just perfect! if you have never read any of this authors books you are missing out. I just pre-order as I have never been disappointed! Ms. Noyes can you just speed up and write them a little faster? 🙂

Loved reading about Stacey and Gemma’s journey to each other. Relationships take work and when there’s fear and anxiety involved, it can become stifling. With the help of Gemma’s moms and lots of communication, they found a way. Well developed characters. I especially enjoyed Aspen and her wisdom about relationships. A good read. I highly recommend this and any other works by E. J. Noyes.

Anything written by this author is an automatic 5 Star! She is just that good. This was an enjoyable follow up to the book "Gold". To me it's more of a young adult story with a little bit of catch up to Cate and Aspen. Gem, their daughter, had a massive crush on Stacey. Stacey in turn had a crush on Gem. Neither of them were brave enough to voice their feelings and ruin their wonderful friendship. So, there were lots of tensions within themselves. It was refreshing to see how they both handled this darn thing called "growing up"! Would highly recommend reading the first book before sliding into this one so as not to miss out on the fantastic world of Olympic skiing.

4.0 out of 5 stars the youth and their shenanigans!!

NGL, I bought it without reading the blurb, well is E.J. Noyes, I trust her! But when I started reading I realised it was following the kids and I'm not a fan of YA, but once in a blue moon I give it a try and enjoy the experience. And it was the case here.

They were so adorable and wholesome and with realistic flaws and I really liked every bit of it. How they dealt with conflicts, personal and not so much, how silly things turn into bigger ones in their head, but being who they are and how they were brought up how they managed to deal with it all. Ah how I don't miss the teenage drama haha. I hope to see them all again in the future, winning more gold medals ;)

The reader is reunited with several of the characters from Noyes novel, Gold. The bright young star of the ski fields Stacey and her best friend Gemma , who happens to be her coaches daughter discover that their love for each is deeper than their friendship. This new adult romance is a slow burn awakening as Stacey and Gemma discover the next step in their relationship is not as easy as it looks.

A thoughtful look at first love and the transition from being considered a “child” to an adult. Adorable characters, a strong storyline, humorous banter and a realistic feel of falling in love for the first time.

    Highly recommend this story.
