    5.0 out of 5 stars A Knockout.

The Paradox War book 5 is sci-fi at its best.
Mars has fallen and the Earth is next. Another great story by outstanding author Ian C Douglas.
Once again hero Zeke Hailey saves the world, or the universe.
The action grabs the reader from the first page.
The prologue is titled, The Alpha Cephei Star System 2260 AD.
‘Trixie Cutter woke with a gasp. She was on the far ship bridge. The flight controls were spewing smoke.’ Immediately Zeke Hailey, with his many skills and powers, comes to the rescue.
Shades of Han Solo or Luke Skywalker! Anyone who enjoyed Star Wars or the television series Star Trek will enjoy the plot twists in this fast-moving adventure.
As it happens, I have been a fan of sci-fi for many years and cut my literary teeth on such authors as Robert Heinlein, and Isaac Asimov, so The Paradox War book 5 was eagerly awaited.
This author certainly understands the ‘hook’, with every chapter compelling the reader to turn the page.
No self-respecting sci -fi novel is complete without believable exotic characters, remember Chewbacca and Jabba the Hutt from Star Wars?
Here we have one example of many, ‘human doors were a bit too narrow for the Hesperian. Zeke still felt a thrill when he saw one. This specimen looked older, with saggy mandibles and wrinkly eyestalks. And a stink of seaweed, too.’ I can easily visualise the Hesperian on the big screen.
It’s clear that the Zeke Hailey series has a legion of fans. One wonders will we see a movie featuring Zeke, Scuff Barnum, Pin Mei, Trixie Cutter and let’s not forget the android Marjorie Barnside.
The Paradox War is a definite 5 star read. I congratulate author Ian C Douglas.
Clearly more adventures of Zeke Hailey are in the pipeline. The novel ends fittingly, informing us that Mars is a Planet of Secrets and invites us to uncover the truth at Zeke’s website; www.zekehailey.com.

5.0 out of 5 stars A High-speed and Turbulent Ride to the End of the Series
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on July 14, 2022
Having had this series recommended to me by several young people, I decided to find out what this phenomena was all about. However, not really being a Sci-Fi fan, I must admit to hesitating before reading the first book, ‘The Infinity Trap’ and subsequently the rest of the series. If I had chosen not to read the books, I would have missed this superbly imaginative series of books. They are page-turners, with delightfully created characters – I love the supporting cast of Scuff Barnum, Pin-Mei and Trixie Cutter, and the android Marjorie Barnside is a joy. Having said that, our hero, the teenage Zeke Hailey, is not only a kind and compassionate character, he has so many skills and powers in his arsenal that I would definitely want him on my side in a battle.
I would add that, if the author has not studied Astrophysics, he has certainly carried out a remarkable amount of research, and I probably understand more about the galaxy than I ever did before.

The plot – Zeke searching the galaxy for his long-missing father, his time at school on Mars, and dealing with a fearsome space monster – has been excellently and meticulously thought out, and is well worth the sleepless hours of the night when you just have to read the next page, finish the chapter, just start on the next chapter, before forcing yourself to turn the light out.

The only thing I regret is that this series comes to an end with The Paradox War. Let’s hope Mr Douglas has some more adventures for Zeke as he matures into a young man.
