One Last Chance (Small Town City Series) Kindle Edition
Morgan Grant was born into a life he never wanted and had done everything he could to avoid. Staying drunk helps him forget and numbs the pain he can’t bring himself to face. After a long night of drinking, he ends up dumped in a small town north of Sacramento without money, his phone, or a way to get back to the city he calls home.
Stu’s focus has always been his daughter, but he can’t control his curiosity about the stranger who shows up in Occident alone in the middle of the night. He offers to help, even when he knows he shouldn’t. Old feelings rise to the surface and he’s helpless to ignore them, or Morgan. This stranger could be his chance at happiness, or his downfall. #singledad #gayromance #stranded #smalltownromance #secrets

About the Author
BL Maxwell grew up in a small town listening to her grandfather spin tales about his childhood. Later she became an avid reader and after a certain vampire series she became obsessed with fanfiction. She soon discovered Slash fanfiction and later discovered the MM genre and was hooked.
Many years later, she decided to take the plunge and write down some of the stories that seem to run through her head late at night when she's trying to sleep.

When they first meet, we see that Morgan brings out Stu's protective instincts while Stu makes Morgan want to be a better man, They fit together well, and I enjoyed their easygoing friendship that develops into attraction.
The story is pretty fast-paced, and their relationship develops quickly. I liked how they fit into each other's lives without much drama or angst. Stu's family accepts Morgan and their budding relationship without much fanfare, so seeing them form a strong relationship throughout the story was nice.
I liked this book and did not read the other books in the series, so I'm glad I could follow along with the story as a standalone.

He spends his time partying and really has no direction in life.
He ends up getting dumped out in the country in a town called Occident.
A farmer, Stu finds him.
From the moment they meet Stu takes on a caregiver, guardian role with Morgan.
He's just the sweetest man and he loves his daughter Mariah who was an absolute sweetheart.
His family are all very easy going and inclusive.
Morgan hasn't had the best family life so he craves his interactions with Stu's family and they immediately accept him as part of the family.
He begins working for Stu and finds that he loves being outside and working.
In actuality he finds his true self.
Stu also finds the courage to be true to himself and they both find themselves falling in love through friendship first.
Morgan's family were just so cruel and I really enjoyed seeing him stand up for himself.
Morgan, after being dumped in the middle of the road in a drunken stupor, is nearly run over by Stu driving his combine. Stu takes the young stranger to his home and tends to his wounds.
In exchange for letting him stay the night, Morgan offers to help Stu on the farm. After a hard day's work organizing Stu's messy barn, Morgan, as is Stu, is pleased with his progress. And Morgan discovers he likes the hard work, after wasting the past year partying and couch surfing.
Stu, needing the extra help on his farm, offers to let Morgan stay for a week and pay him for his labor. Stu's four year old daughter, Mariah, is thrilled...and so is Stu.
Soon Morgan is sleeping not on the couch, but in Stu's bed on the sly to shield Mariah. He finds he loves the farming lifestyle and the rural setting that is so different from Sacramento. One week becomes two and two, three.
But Stu is straight. (Or is he?)
He's been married and divorced, but out of the dating scene for years. Morgan is gay, but hesitant to show his growing feelings for Stu.
As the plot unwinds smoothly, the two men establish a routine work day and a budding relationship. Until one day Stu notices a car he has seen before back in Occident months later. Reacting quickly, he corners the driver and discovers the horrible truth behind Morgan's "dumping".
With exceptional world building, slightly sappy dialogue and snarky exchanges between all the characters, Stu and Morgan each confront their hurtful pasts in an attempt to find the best in each other.
As seems to be the rule rather than the exception lately, editing mistakes lowered my rating for this wonderful story. Otherwise, I would have happily doled out 4 stars.
(If you have read the previous books in this series, you will be happy to find Andy, Link and Stu's accepting parents make appearances!)
