Off The Chart: A Taking Risks Novel Kindle Edition
Joni Bell’s life as a former American military helicopter pilot has grown complicated. The only way to rescue a spy she’s come to love and keep a promise to a child whose father is a political prisoner in Africa, is to assist the CIA. Can she do all this while trying to keep one step ahead of a traitor in her midst?
Former Special Forces soldier Ian Taljaard is avoiding Zimbabwean intelligence (CIO). They want him stopped after he aided the imprisoned finance minister in uncovering government corruption and secrets they need to keep buried. Now Ian’s pressing goal is to find where the CIO is keeping the minister and free him. The last thing Ian wants is for captivating American Joni Bell to risk coming back to where the CIO wants her dead. Yet Joni does return, with support from the American CIA and unwelcome help from a fellow pilot assigned as her escort. Ian fears the duplicitous CIA is hiding the true mission once again and that Joni’s coworker harbors secrets…secrets with the potential to kill.

About the author

Sandy's books have won the Kiss of Death Daphne du Maurier Mainstream Suspense Award, two Maggie awards, a HOLT Award of Merit, and have been finalists in the 2013 Book Buyers Best and Write Touch Readers Award national contests.
Flying and science are evident themes in Sandy's novels, but she believes writing is all about fun, strong, and memorable characters.
She is a hydrogeologist by training with an M.S. in geological sciences and has taken additional graduate engineering coursework. She has taught at a university, worked on a military project for the Air Force Flight Test Center, worked as a design engineer for a civil engineering firm, and has done computer modeling and field studies as a hydrogeologic consultant.
Keeping up with her two sons, she also learned how to fly and dive, and survived sparring for fifteen years as a black belt in Kenpo Karate. She has studied in England and Italy, traveled to South Africa, Egypt, Asia, and South America, and still travels to places of interest all over the world so she can make her stories richer.
She fell in love with books from many genres as a kid, reading stories by Helen MacInnes, Alistair MacLean, Isaac Asimov, Mary Stewart, and Andre Norton. Later she grew into Michael Crichton, Lee Child, non-fiction historical books, and fresh new voices in science fiction and thrillers from today.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 14, 2016Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseAs I flipped the last page on Off the Chart my first thought was “WOW!” The story moved fast and kept me guessing at what would happen next. Joni and Ian’s nemesis, Kagona, is a cunning, sadistic, menacing adversary. Only their shrewd resourcefulness keeps them one step ahead of him. Sandy’s attention to detail in describing Zimbabwe kept me grounded in the action. All I can say is whenever you see a book by Sandy Parks, BUY IT, you won’t be disappointed.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 4, 2017Format: KindleVerified PurchaseWon the first book in this series on Facebook. Enjoyed it so much came back and bought this second book. Off the Charts is every bit as intense as the first book in the series. The political environment of Zimbabwe told with such sophistication really draws you into a society alien to Americans. The lead characters are really likable and even the mysterious side characters you root for. A real rollercoaster ride of an adventure.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 17, 2019Format: KindleVerified PurchaseLittle slow at the beginning, with just enough to keep you reading. Then it gets more and more exciting. Interesting characters, good plot, good place, very few authors chose Africa as the setting. So it was original and intriguing. Good writing.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 16, 2016Format: KindleVerified PurchaseEven better than the first one! The characters are so very well written, from the ones you love, to the creepy bad guys. In parts, intensity took on a whole new meaning. Wow! Loved the ending. Not sure I like Bram, and definitely do not like Lemmon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another thrilling adventure
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseAn absolutely awesome adventure through parts of Africa that the author described stunningly.
Wow is a great start to this story, the first book was fantastic the second one just blew me away.
I really loved all the twists and turns and I seriously loved to hate Bram the whole way through even now the day after i finished the story I'm not 100% how I feel about that man, to me thats a huge sign of a great author that I'm still figuring things out days later...lol
Joni is just magical talk about a never say die attitude and seriously guys do not ever get on her bad side, good thing for Ian he is on her good side forever. Ian is a great guy who is learning the hard way that he has fallen in love and that means he has to adjust his life because even if he wanted to walk away from Joni he never could.
What I loved most about this story was the way the author floated a love story through such a thrilling adventure where torture was a game to the bad guys but in the end love won out which I must say at times I wondered if it would.
I can't wait for more from this author she is fast becoming an absolute favourite of mine.
