On Loverose Lane (Return to Dublin Street Book 1) Kindle Edition
It’s always the broody ones you have to watch out for….
Imagine my surprise when my new neighbor turns out to be Callan Keen, one of Scotland’s most famous (and hottest) professional footballers. I’m even more shocked to discover that the brooding player is still holding a grudge for something that happened between us years ago.
But I can’t focus on him or his issues with me because I’m too busy trying to take my company to the next level. I don’t have time for this blast from the past, even if the grump upstairs is still the most gorgeous man I’ve ever laid eyes on.
When a huge client opportunity arises, I’m forced to ask Callan for help. I need a fake date and he needs an introduction with my real estate mogul dad. The deal between us should be simple. Except for the blazing chemistry we’ve shared since the moment we met. We can’t deny it, we can’t control it, and soon we’re agreeing to a six week, no-strings-attached, mind-blowing affair.
I told myself I wouldn't catch feelings for Callan, but the closer we get, the more he reminds me of the guy I once fell for. It just might prove impossible to show my stubborn Scotsman we’re worth the risk, especially when the past continues to haunt us and threaten to wreck any chance of a future together…

- Reviewed in the United States on February 21, 2025Spin-off series featuring the next generation of characters from a beloved pioneer series tend to make me a wee bit anxious. Will the new one be as good as the previous one? Will I be as emotionally invested with the second generation cast of characters as I had been with their parents? Well, if On Loverose Lane sets the bar for the Return to Dublin Street spin-off, then Samantha Young is off to a fantastic start. If you're a longtime reader of Young's, then it would be near impossible for you to have not read On Dublin Street, the book that started it all for the author. And if you've read it, then you know very well who Braden Carmichael and Jocelyn Butler--aka Braden and Joss, and still one of my all-time favorite fictional couples--are. Their oldest daughter, Beth, now gets her own chance at her happily-ever-after, and it's a friends-to-possibly more-to-enemies, grumpy/sunshine, second chance, fake dating, sports romance with a hot professional football player named Callan who lives in the same building as she does.
The last person twenty-four-year-old Beth Carmichael expected to see moving into her apartment building is also the first boy who wasn't family that she ever cared about--Callan Keen. It's been eight years since she last saw him, but that doesn't mean she isn't aware of how far Callan has come. Now twenty-five, he's the captain of Caledonia United and one of the top midfielders in the Scottish Professional Football League. On the other hand, Beth has done well for herself, too, as owner of Social Queens, a social media management company that caters to smaller businesses. However, it looks like time doesn't heal all wounds, not where Callan is concerned, who makes it clear that he wants nothing to do with Beth, nor does he want his friends engaging with her either. But desperate times call for desperate measures, and with Beth needing Callan to lock down a potential new client and him needing her to secure a meeting with her dad, they become not-so-strange bedfellows...literally AND proverbially.
I adore a well-written grumpy/sunshine romance, and with Beth and Callan sharing a past when they were teenagers, there's an additional dimension of interest. These two gave as good as they got, and the verbal tussles they would get into was wholly entertaining. I understood why Callan was as hurt as he was by what Beth did eight years prior, and I also got why Beth felt like she had to handle her discovery in the manner she chose. They were, after all, teenagers back then. This gave me a better appreciation for how their relationship grew and evolved in their mid-twenties. It was also fun having the OGs around, aka those couples who found their happily-ever-afters in the original series, as well as meeting the second generation plus Callan's teammates who were also his closest friends, Baird and John. There was a fair bit of humor and some angst as well, and a whole lot of heat and heart that I thoroughly enjoyed. On Loverose Lane gets five stars, and I can't wait for book two!
- Reviewed in the United States on April 15, 2025I loved returning to Dublin Street. I have missed the group something fierce. Looking into their lives and seeing the next generation is something I want to keep looking forward to in the books to come. On Loverose Lane is a sweet, sexy and funny story about a girl and boy getting a second chance. Their first time trying did not work out so well so there is some baggage there with them. When they meet again years later, their chemistry is intense. I love how they have a love/hate thing in the beginning and how it gets intense the more time they spend together. The supporting characters give the main characters a boost in personality because they add in the comedy, friendships and love. This story is one for you if you want something sweet, sexy and getting a second chance at having the one that got away.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 25, 2025Ahh!! I am so in love!
Callan and Beth were so adorable together, and I loved the secondary characters John and Baird!
In this book, you'll see...
-Sports romance
-Forced Proximity
-Fake Dating
-Friends to lovers to enemies to lovers
-Second chances
-A really ugly floral sofa that wouldn't fit in the lift
Beth and Callan were so adorable together. No matter how much they each try to hate each other, they cannot deny the chemistry that sparks whenever they are in a room together. Their snarky banter slowly turns into flirty banter, and all of a sudden, Beth and Callen find themselves looking at the enemy like they're not an enemy anymore!
Beth's perfectly chaotic work/life balance is turned upside down when her high school crush/almost boyfriend moves into the flat above hers. Suddenly, anxieties and stress from the past are coming back to haunt her. As much as they try to avoid each other, Beth and Callan find themselves bumping into each other, unable to escape the other.
Callan is not the same sweet, lost boy he was when he first met Beth. Her betrayal and life has taught him some valuable lessons (he thinks), and he's made himself believe he doesn't need a relationship or love.
Beth is all about finding love like her parents have, and refuses to settle or slow down for anything less.
When Beth is accosted for a date, she panics and tells him that she's dating Callan, who happened to be walking by at the moment. Callan, ever the gentleman, steps in to back up Beth's claims and goes along with rouse at a potential clients.
Suddenly, the forced interactions are blurring the lines between them, and Callan and Beth talk about the past that doesn't seem to matter as much anymore.
When Callan finally realizes he loves Beth and wants to be with her, he is seriously so cute! But life doesn't always happen how you want, and Callan doesn't know if he can give Beth what she wants or if he could ever let her go!
I had never read the On Dublin Street series, so I was going into Loverose Lane with a totally fresh eyes. I loved them! I love Beth's parents and all the aunts and uncles that have books. Sam's Highland Series and Adair series are two of my all time favorite series ever, so this book was exactly what I would expect from her!!
Totally recommend, whether you've read the first gen series or are going in blind, the book is so good!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved Loved Loved!
The moment I found out Samantha Young was writing a spin-off series featuring the next generation of the On Dublin Street crew, I screamed with excitement. And let me tell you—this first book in The Return series did not disappoint. At all. It was everything I wanted and more! I laughed, I cried, and I swooned my heart out.
I first read On Dublin Street when I was 17, and it was one of my first-ever romance books—the gateway to my love for the genre. Over the years, I’ve reread the series countless times, and it still holds a special place in my heart. Seeing Samantha Young return to this world feels like coming home.
In On Loverose Lane, we follow Beth, the adult daughter of Joss and Braden, who has always dreamed of a love as epic as her parents’. Enter Callan—a Scottish footballer with a grumpy exterior and a past eerily similar to Joss’s tragic backstory. Watching these two reunite, move from snarky not-quite-enemies to lovers, and navigate their feelings was an emotional and heartwarming journey. Callan was pure swoon material, and watching him fall—hard—for Beth was so satisfying. And Beth? She was the perfect blend of both her parents—strong, fiery, and full of heart. Seeing the deep family bonds within the Carmichael/Nichols clan made this story even more special.
If I could give this more than 5 stars, I would. Samantha Young has once again delivered an unforgettable romance, and I cannot wait for Lily’s story next! Also… can we get more of Baird, please?!

5.0 out of 5 stars I cannot wait for more of this second gen
The way that Samantha absolutely slays her Scottish MMC's every single time...seriously, they are just so well written. Obviously, On Loverose Lane did not disappoint!
I adored the story between Callam and Beth... a bit of a second chance with grief rep, flashbacks, and mental health rep. There's just something absolutely bingeable about Samantha's writing because she gives us exactly what I want.
I absolutely loved Callam and Beth's story but I also loved the family dynamics and the found family aspect. Samantha has written such an amazing world with On Dublin Street series, and I am just so happy to be back in this world for second gen.
Narration: Shane and Zara are always just the perfect duo. I could listen to them for days and days and never be bored of their accents and cadences.
