Jenny & Gitte of Totally Booked
"I loved this book. Loved. It. Why? Because there was so much to love about it, that's why. Dax and Beck were lovable, likable, and desirable. And together, they burned up the pages. Their connection was intense and real."
Missy of Give Me Books
"On Solid Ground genuinely opened my eyes to things that I had never come across in other books. It had: conviction, it had feelings, AND, it had heart."
Kawehi of Kawehi's Book Blog
"Experiencing these two men building a friendship and bringing each other comfort made me try to read slower to savor the journey even more."
Denise of Shh Mom's Reading
"These two characters were just screaming at me to read their story. So, I took a chance and I have to say this book is one of my favorites of the year. Loved. It. Hard. Loved it so much that when I was done reading it, I started it over again. I'm having a hard time letting go of these men and this incredible story."
Kara of Two Book Pushers
"On Solid Ground is more than a story, it has a great message behind every sentence, every paragraph, and every chapter. "

- Reviewed in the United States on January 14, 2015Let me start with WOW! That’s about all I can say about this book. Melissa has such a great way of putting the reader right into the story. I love that she tells it from both points of view so that the reader can better understand both sides of the story. I love that her characters are so real to life. I love that the story can stand on it’s own regardless of what people might think going into it.
I also must admit that she made me a convert! I never would have thought I would enjoy a story about two men and how they found love and each other, but Let Love Live was so beautiful that I had to give On Solid Ground a chance, too...and I am so happy I did!!
Jacob “Dax” Daxton is returning from the war a changed man. Though he hasn’t completely changed, he knows that he can’t stay home with his family so he decides to go live with his best friend far away from his childhood home. He isn’t sure what to expect when he gets there, but he definitely finds more than he bargained for.
Beckett is a tattoo artist who isn’t without his own demons, but is totally comfortable with the fact that he’s a gay man. Dax comes to Beck’s tattoo shop for a tattoo to honor the soldier who died that Dax couldn't save. When they meet, Beck knows there is an immediate physical attraction, but he isn’t sure if Dax feels the same way, or even if he’s gay!
One of my favorite lines comes from Beck immediately after giving Dax his new tattoo.
“Whether you deserve it or not, whatever that means, it’s a part of you now. Whether you love what it means or hate how it came to be there, it always will be.”
I think Beck is really one of my all-time favorite characters because he has so much compassion and love in his heart that he shares with ease. He takes care of those he loves and he loves with his whole being.
Dax is struggling with panic attacks and not being comfortable with who he is, but with Beck by his side, he really discovers a lot about life and comes into his own person.
Both men have huge hearts and both men have a lot of love to share, but both me also have a lot needs as well which Dax understands in another of my favorite passages:
“That’s the state we’re both in, after all. Need. I need him to calm me; he needs me to steady him. I need him to rouse me back to life; he needs me to remind him that his is a good life, not one of meaningless nothingness.”
Of course their relationship isn’t without hills and valleys, but Dax and Beck are such strong men that they keep going thru the toughest times.
Melissa does such an amazing job of putting the reader right there in the story and I went thru every emotion while reading this book. There were moments of pure joy and there were moments of absolute devastation. I don’t know how she does it, but I hope she keeps doing it!
I give On Solid Ground 5 out of 5 stars!!!
- Reviewed in the United States on March 31, 2015This is a wonderful love story. Two people in pain and having struggles. One flashbacks of war and trying to deal with his PTSD and finding out who he is and dealing with the death of his lover in the process and the other dealing with his sister’s troubles, starting over and trying to be a better person.
Dax is a kind guy. He is thoughtful and honest one we all wish to have but he is dealing with survivor’s guilt and coming home from the war. He is generally a wholesome man who tries to do what is right. When he had to go home again as he was feeling safe and beginning to feel he found a home where he was was so sad. He had to leave Beck.
Beck for me made this book. He was one that was about family and friends. Forgiveness and moving on. He believed in love and happiness. He was what Dax needed in his life to help him and he needed Dax. These two together were so amazing. they completed each other and help smooth over the bad stuff. For Dax Beck kept him grounded and brought him back from his attacks. For Beck Dax helped him be a better man.
this is a charming sweet and romantic book about two men who find each other but have obstacles pulling them in different ways. Dax trying to rebuild his life after being at war and Beck with his family situation. They help each other cope and they fall in love only to have the obtacles start to become a chasm. Until a decision was made and one almost loses the other. than the chasm is meded and all you feel is their love.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 15, 2015Melissa asked a question on her author page recently along the lines of what a reader looks for in a book and my answer was the "feels" and I can honestly say Melissa has once again hit the spot, the emotions I felt reading this book were off the scale and honestly covered them all. I have read Melissas books from her first release and each one is better than the last but I honestly think Melissa has excelled in her M/M genre books, a genre I love.
I loved Jax from the first two pages of this book and was crying by then too for him, I seriously wanted to climb in this book and just hug him. Jax is a soldier returning from the war zone and is suffering from PTSD but you know something deeper troubles him; as he returns to his childhood home Jax feels out of place with the family that he has kept his sexuality from and so decides to move across country to live with his best friend, Chloe.
Jax decides on a tattoo to honour his fallen friend and so meets Beck the "hot tattoo man" with his own list of issues that an horrific childhood has left him with, a sister in rehab and a beautifully written niece that he is caring for in the meantime. They hit it off on a platonic level straight away both hiding their attraction to the other as Beck tattoos Jax.
They build a tentative friendship after a further chance meeting and straight away you are rooting for these two to find the solace they both want and need in each other as they seem to be the salve that the other needs.
“That’s the state we’re both in, after all. Need. I need him to calm me; he needs me to steady him. I need him to rouse me back to life; he needs me to remind him that his is a good life, not one of meaningless nothingness.”
However life and family and commitments make this a bumpy road for them and seems to pull them away from each other when Jax has to return home. The time apart forces Jax to revalute his feelings for Beck and find some closure of his issues with his family and so he returns hoping to pick up where they had so wrongly left things but life once again steps in to throw them off track as tradegy strikes in the most horrific way leaving them both reeling from the events. And me as a reader reaching for the tissues.
There is so much to this story and a brilliant cast of side characters that all come together perfectly as Melissa does such a great job in addressing some sensitive subjects beautifully. I want to say I loved how Melissa addressed the issue of PTSD in this story so well and with such obvious respect and acknowledgement of this condition and its sufferers.
The epilogue to Dax and Beck's story is truly beautiful and I was again crying as these two finally get a chance at hapiness and becoming a family. And the final perfect line left me smiling so wide.
“All because she said yes”

4.0 out of 5 stars Gute Geschichte...

4.0 out of 5 stars Good *^*
This story is full of emotions. Both the main characters have a big heart and even if at some point they pissed me off I'm really glad the author gave us that epilogue.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant, passionate and powerful
Brilliant ,passionate and powerful. An emotional roller-coaster where you cannot help but champion for the two main characters as they come together to put past demons to bed and forge ahead with building a future. Do not forget to read the sequel On Higher Ground

5.0 out of 5 stars On Solid Ground
Another moving story from Melissa. I know M/M isn't for everyone but I can't help but look past that to the person underneath! Two men from different backgrounds both with traumatic pasts that have affected the way they see themselves. Neither of which feel they deserve happiness but together they fix the broken parts of each other. A great storyline with some wonderful characters. Well done Melissa on another awesome book. Thanks xx

5.0 out of 5 stars Epic ending to a beautiful story!!
I haven't been reading m/m for too long but I absolutely love this genre. I've actually become quite addicted to it!!
I must say Ms. Collins really did this story justice. We have a soldier, Dax who has returned from war & is suffering from PTSD. Then we get a smoking hot tattoo artist, Beck who is dealing with quite a bit of drama in his life as well.
When these two meet the sparks are instantaneous & feelings grow between the two quite rapidly. There are times when they both question whether or not this is the best time in their lives to be diving headfirst into a new relationship.
"Nothing that’s worth anything comes without a challenge."
Dax is living with his best friend Chloe, trying to figure out what to do with his life. Beck has just fought to become guardian of his niece & has been awarded sole guardian & needs to figure out how this will work. Maybe they both feel that with the drama & stress of their lives in the way, maybe they should back off. How can you back off when your body and heart is saying to stay.
"Need. I need him to calm me; he needs me to steady him. I need him to rouse me back to life; he needs me to remind him that his is a good life, not one of meaningless nothingness."
This book was so amazing!!! I loved all the characters especially the two MC's & loved Violet & Tonka.
"She almost lost her best friend. I almost lost the man I love. Violet almost lost her superhero."
