One, Two, I See You: Nursery Rhymes for Darker Minds Kindle Edition
And read the poems of Mother Goose,
But when I became a grown-up,
I let my darker side run loose.

the Muffin Man, the Muffin Man,
and what he put in his muffin pan,
in his house in Drury Lane.
You will see how the saw silences Margery,
how Miss Polly likes to bite, bite, bite.
So many twists to the rhymes,
to be read in bed at night.
Are you ready children?
Mother Hubbard's here.

there are even more monsters near.

4.0 out of 5 stars A dark twist on a much-loved tradition
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis was a must-read for me as soon as I heard about it. I consider myself fortunate in that I grew up immersed in the world of Nursery Rhymes and went on to teach primary children for many years. As the years went by, I realized that fewer and fewer children were starting school with a knowledge of Nursery Rhymes and it was such a shame! It seemed like a dying art. The stories they tell, the rhyme and syllable patterns, as well as the messages concealed within the layers is becoming a missed opportunity.
What Stephanie Ellis has done here is very clever, because she's taken those wonderful rhymes and added dark elements making them suitable for adults. Some I giggled at because they were so wicked. Others I had to read more than once in order to savor the language.
Very clever, and a wonderful cover to boot!
