Only the Negatives (Only You) Kindle Edition
I wish he’d just stayed wherever he’s been for the past four years. That is, blissfully out of my life and nowhere near our little country town.
But in my weakest moment, he arrived like some knight in shining armour. One I never wanted or asked for. I should have run him down with my wheelchair. But I didn’t. I got in his car. And now I have to see his beautiful damn face every damn day. And that’s my worst nightmare. Because the things he once said can’t be unheard. The hell he put me through can’t be forgotten. The man he is now can’t be forgiven for the boy he once was.
And yet, I want him.
Set in a country town in rural Australia, Only the Negatives is a second chance, enemies to lovers romance, featuring a strong, disabled heroine and the man willing to do anything for another chance.

About the author

Elle Thorpe lives on the sunny east coast of Australia, about an hour out of Sydney. When she's not writing stories full of kissing and chemistry, she's a wife, and Mummy to three tiny humans. She's also official ball thrower to one slobbery dog named Rollo. Yes, she named a female dog after a male character on Vikings. Don't judge her. Elle is a complete and utter fangirl at heart, obsessing over The Walking Dead and Outlander to an unhealthy degree. But she wouldn't change a thing.

- Reviewed in the United States on September 30, 2024This book's flawed characters, including the strong and inspiring heroine Gemma, made for a compelling and uplifting read. I rooted for her throughout the book and appreciated the realistic portrayal of someone in a wheelchair. Ryker's determination was also admirable, despite his mistakes. Elle Thorpe crafted a remarkable story that left me with a warm and fuzzy feeling.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 9, 2019It was a sweet read but it felt rushed at times and it seemed to miss that emotional connection for me. Quite a few spelling and punctuation errors but has so much potential. I like where the author was going with it and wouldn’t mind seeing how the characters develop.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 7, 2019I loved this book from the very first page. It had me teary eyed and then smiling, then shocked and then excited. . . It has everything!
I love that this book was about flawed characters . . . It wasn't sad but very uplifting. Gemma was such a strong heroine throughout and brought real true emotions that every single one of us ladies have. I felt like I knew her, like we would be best friends. Gemma is an amazing and inspiring person to read about and I have never read a book I love so much where the main person was handicapped (wheelchair bound). I rooted for her the whole book!
And well Ryker . . . A typical male that makes mistakes at every turn. The best part is that he doesn't give up! I love that ambition!
These 2, Ryker and Gemma, are truly amazing and made for the best read ever! Elle Thorpe is a story magician! I would not hesitate to 1-click any one of her books! It just gives you all the feels in the best possible way!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 11, 2024I am so thoroughly obsessed with her writing and her characters. I love that throughout the span of this book we really saw Ryker come to life as did Gemma. I love love love them.

This is Gemma’s story, little sister to Reese from Only the Positive, and she is all grown up. You don’t have to read the previous books, but it will definitely make this book more enjoyable.
At first I wasn’t too much of a fan of Adam Ryker, I mean come on that man was down right evil to her in high school. I understand he had a hard childhood, but to do what he did knowing he was her only friend at that time was majorly hurtful. I loved that Gemma didn’t just forgive him nor was she petty, but she made herself clear how she felt about him.
I will say the jump from enemies to more than friendly was a bit abrupt and for me it felt a little forced. However, Ryker’s determination to when back her affection was endearing and the fact that he got jealous so easily was hilarious.
I loved that we get to see the old group again, but there are major issues between Bianca and Riley and I can’t wait to see how it unfolds.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 28, 2020Only the Negatives takes place several years after the first two books in the series and features Gemma and Ryker. We met Gemma in the first book as Reese's little sister, but she's all grown up now and facing some all too grown-up problems. I guess if I had to classify this one, I'd say it's a friends to enemies to friends to lovers romance - yeah, that about sums it up. Both Gemma and Ryker tug at the heartstrings, each for different reasons - his reasons are a little more hidden than hers, and when they come out, it goes a long way toward understanding how the whole enemy thing happened between them. I love that Gemma doesn't let her disability stop her, and Ryker sees her for the beautiful young woman she is. Oh, and don't let the title fool you. The story does have its share of angst, but it's certainly not a Debbie downer. The title fits for a different reason, which isn't hard to figure out from pretty early on.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 20, 2019This is the first book I read by Elle Thorpe and I absolutely loved it! Although it's the third book in the series, it can be read as a standalone. There was enough backstory written in that I didn't feel like I was missing something.
I related to Gemma in so many ways. Having Cerebral Palsy and being permanently wheelchair-bound, I know what it feels like to have people see just my chair and not me and make assumptions when they first meet me. And the same with the dating issues. But it was absolutely refreshing to see a wheelchair-bound heroine find love and get her happily ever after. Yes, she and Ryker had their ups and downs, both in high school and as a couple, but he never saw her as anything other than the smart and driven person she was. That gives me hope that I'll still find my Adam Ryker someday.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 24, 2019Elle Thorpe has nailed it again! In her newest stand alone in the Only You series, you get to see Reece's little sister, Gemma, unexpectedly find love in this artfully combined sweet AND hot enemies-to-lovers romance.
What I love about Elle is her gusto at running toward topics others shy away from. In Only the Negatives, the main character Gemma is in a wheel chair. While I LOVE that she incorporated diversity, I also love how she did it in such a seamless, believable, well-researched way that it never feels like a forced, unnatural character trait. Instead, it's just who Gemma is, and Elle sums up her personality perfectly when Gemma says, "I should have run him down with my wheelchair." That feisty attitude is what makes readers fall in love with her fast and hard. And don't even get me started on swoon-worthy, hard-to-hate "bad boy", Ryker. He's the perfect blend of a man who's both damaged and struggling to turn everything around. He's sometimes sloppy about it, but he's earnest, honest, and determined. And it's pretty darn hot. Somehow, Elle continues to weave sweet with heat at a masterful level. We can no longer call her an up-and-coming romance author; Elle has firmly arrived and claimed her spot as a favorite, must-read author!

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible!
This has to go down as one of my favourite books that I have ever read. Although it is the third book in the 'Only You' series, I never found any difficulty whilst reading. It is the first book by Elle Thorpe that I have read and I'm proud to say it definitely won't be my last. The story is extremely well written and the chemistry between the two main characters is incredible. Giving chapters in both Gemma and Ryker's point of view, it is clear that the two have this burning passion towards each other. However, Gemma is determined not to let Ryker back into her life but Ryker is determined to show Gemma how guilty he feels for everything he put her through when she was younger and prove to her that he's not the boy be used to be. I can't wait to be able to get my hands on the rest of the series!

5.0 out of 5 stars I absolutely loved this story!
I absolutely loved this story. It's the first book by Elle Thorpe that I've read and while it is the third book in the series, I didn't find it a problem having missed the previous two.
It's very well written and I loved Gemma. She is one determined lady when it comes Ryker! She wants nothing to do with him when he comes to her aid at the start of the story. He'd hurt her and she had no intention of letting it happen again.
Ryker is filled with guilt for his behaviour years ago and has an uphill struggle with trying to show Gemma that he's not the boy he used to be.
Thrown together the attraction comes to a slow burn and then...a beautiful story happens.

4.0 out of 5 stars loved it
I definitely think this is my favourite of the dearies so far. I love ryker and how he works on his faults and how he pushes gem to realise she needs to broaden her horizons.

3.0 out of 5 stars 3.5 Stars
Liked this more than I thought I would. Following her father’s stroke, wheelchair bound Gemma has no alternative but to work with the boy next door. Adam had made Gemma a scapegoat to protect his brother in high school, which inadvertently led to years of bullying. Although young, I really liked these two MC’s together. Loveable Adam proves his remorse and luckily, Gemma forgave him early on. However, the Gerard arc fell flat for me - the wedding scene was so far fetched and annoyingly left unresolved. Overall, an enjoyable easy read. Although third in a series, it can be read as a stand-alone.
