Outrun the Rain (The Storm Boys Series Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 1,676 ratings

Tully Larson has loved tropical storms since he was a kid and spent his summers with his dad in the wilds of Kakadu National Park. He’s happiest outdoors, a rough and ready kind of guy who loves the power of Mother Nature and chasing the thrill of electrical storms every chance he gets.

Jeremiah Overton, a fulminologist from Melbourne, chases storms for a whole different reason. Lightning has shaped his entire life and he’s driven to study it, to understand it, so heading to Kakadu in the middle of the storm season is a logical thing to do. After all, the Top End is the lightning capital of Australia.

Tully wasn’t sure how a week at his remote bunker with an academic type would pan out. And Jeremiah didn’t expect much from the storm-chasing cowboy who volunteered to take him.

But both men know all too well that when opposites attract, lightning strikes.

I liked this well enough. Great atmosphere, interesting concept, and I really loved Tully. I am only warm to Jeremiah. I thought he was a bit rude/pushy with Tully sometimes. But I liked them together. The humour was great and i loved how this one ended. I'll definitely continue with book two. Highly recommend the audio, too.

Everything that had to do with the storms and lightning was really, really interesting and I always love to read anything that has to do with Australia's wilderness and N.R. Walker has a beautiful way of bringing to life on page.

There were some really emotional scenes between Jeremiah and Tully but for the most part this first part was... fine. The ending was pretty fun. Let's see if the second part will be more exciting for me.

Tully enjoys spending time in the tropical jungles of Australia's Top End, watching the violent thunderstorms that roll through the area. He's an amateur “storm chaser.” But now, Tully has agreed to escort a scientist from Melbourne into the forest. He's expecting some stuck-up old fossil, but the man who steps off the plane is near Tully's age. Jeremiah has always been fascinated by lightning. He's on a mission to prove himself to his colleagues back in Melbourne who think he's weird. It's not just the weather that makes the two men hot and bothered during their week together.

This author seems to have a thing for romances that have an expiration date. Two men meet and are irresistibly attracted to each other, but one of them is, in theory, only around for a short time. What will happen when they're supposed to part? Well, this is romance, so you know something will get them to happily ever after. You just don't know what that something will be.

Tully seems every bit the wild rogue when we meet him. He drives his old jeep down almost impassible jungle tracks without flinching. He makes jokes about crocodiles and other dangers of the jungle, but he knows how to survive and is almost as fascinated by storms as Jeremiah. However, there's another side to Tully, when he's not camping in the jungle, that we only get a glimpse of at the end.

Jeremiah is full of surprises. Once you learn about his childhood, his interest in lightning seems almost morbid. He can be a typical science nerd one minute but turn into a wild man when a storm hits full force. It's not what you expect, but it's not implausible. While Jeremiah may not be a typical character, he is still entirely believable.

This is the start of another series, and I'm looking forward to reading the next book.

Loveable, fun characters with a irritation/attraction banter, unique setting and a great balance of comedy, excitement and romance. My only complaint was how short the ending was. I prefer to see characters more settled into their hea, but I think they are getting two more books? I hope so, because I want more of these two!

This is a grumpy/sunshine story with great characters. Tully loves storms and as he works for his parents company he gets plenty of time off to do what he loves. Jeremiah is a science nerd, a more complex character with a sad back story. He gets a grant to study the lightning at Kakadu, Australia’s Top End and Tully is asked to be his guide. I loved Tully’s sense of humour and of course they are both completely crazy and get off on chasing deadly storms, a match made in heaven.

There is plenty of steam, although Tully has to wear Jeremiah down with his sparkling wit first, and not just with the 100% humidity!

The story is exciting with a fast paced plot and scary storms. Who in their right mind lives or willingly goes to a place that is so hot, has frightening storms every day and don’t even get me started on the crocs! Definitely not me or for the feint hearted but it is a testament to the authors descriptive writing that I came to that decision easily.

This is a good start to the series and I cannot wait to read the next book.

Amo os livros da N.R. Walker.
Recomendo.

Oh. That was lovely. I so enjoyed this book. It is lighthearted, interesting, and the characters; Tully who is more than a brash Storm chaser who does nothing but chase storms, and Jeremiah. Oh Jeremiah, who is also more then he seems.

I loved the story and how we slowly get to know Tully and Jeremiah, how they seem misfits at first, but then, because of Tully’s gentle and insightful side, Jeremiah allows himself to loosen up, and to show who he really is. He begins to trust Tully and when the storms hit, Tully sees his enthusiasm and he sees a whole other person

Ms Walker explains at the front of the book that this is purely a work of fiction and is not completely true to how the business of meteorology works, but it works for me. It’s probably similar to watching police shows on the television, they entertain, but the police agencies would be the first to say that that is not how things happen in investigations. But. They do inspire some people to want to investigate crime in real life and even become pathologists. So while I was immersed in the book, I totally believed it all and enjoyed every minute.

Jeremiah is stronger than he seems, is sexier than he seems and gives his boss a delicious mouthful. Not what you would expect on first meeting him. Together, Tully and Jeremiah are the perfect team. Publicly and privately ❤️🔥. Yes, I loved the ending.

    5 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars live the lightnings and storms too!

Storms with lightning are majestics! I truly understand the passion of Tully and Jeremiah. The storm chaser and the fulminologist.

Great story! I like how Tully took seriously Jeremiah’s phobia of frogs and installed netting on the shower thank and in the shower stall to make sure Jeremiah could shower in peace.

Tully is a very interesting character! Passionate but still reasonable, organized and dependable. With the downside of having a bad sense of humour.

Jeremiah is riddled with insecurities with a life filled with people not believing and supporting him and his dreams. And other people in his entourage being bullies to him. On the flip side of the coin, he is very secure in his profession and knowing he is the best there is about scientist studying lightning. He is also brave but absolutely mindless when it come to self protection during a lightning storm. He is to focus on his research to realize he could very easily get hit and die.
Good thing Tully is by his side!
    Good story!
