Outmatched Kindle Edition
Parker Brown can’t believe she needs to hire a fake boyfriend. When she landed her dream job in renewable energy, she thought she’d be entering a world at the forefront of progressive thinking. But the head boss prefers to promote employees who are “settled.” Thankfully, she’s found the perfect candidate, a fellow intellectual looking for some quick cash. What Parker gets is his protective big brother—Rhys Morgan. The tall, muscled ex-boxer with a foul mouth shows up just as her boss does, and now she’s stuck with the manipulative jerk.
Responsibility weighs heavily on Rhys. Now permanently out of the ring, he’s trying to hold together his late father’s gym and keep his younger brother, Dean, on the straight and narrow. To save Dean from himself, Rhys takes his place, ready to give this society girl a piece of his mind. Instead, he finds an opportunity. Even though they can hardly stand each other, posing as Parker’s boyfriend is a win-win deal. She gets to keep her job, and he’ll charm her star-struck boss into sponsoring his gym.
Problem is, they can barely keep their hands off each other. And what started as an easy deal isn’t so easy anymore. Because what future can a rough ex-boxer, afraid to open his heart, and a polished society geek, who has sworn off real relationships, possibly have?
They say opposites attract. These opposites are about to combust on impact.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 27, 2019Loved this book! First time reader of Kristen and huge fan of Samantha! The characters are great...they each have their own quirks...Parker is a brilliant environmentalist (not sure of her exact job/degree) who is really about the earth/recycling/green/biodegradable, etc...and it can get a little much, but it’s her job! She comes from money, although doesn’t care for it. She hates how the wealthy act and hates lying. (I.e. to the wealthy people including family) Now, Rhys, who didn’t come from money is a former heavyweight boxing champion but left his career due to a tragedy. He is on the verge of losing his gym (through no fault of his own) and finds Parker. The way he went about meeting Parker was a total DB move on his part, but he found out quickly Parker wasn’t the rich snob he thought. Together they realize how well they fit - coming from 2 “different worlds” almost. Rhys’s brother Dean is great (I see/hope a book comes out for him next!) and the side characters are well placed as well. Parker’s boss’s boss who holds over Parker’s head how unsecured her position is at the company being the only female...you really want to smack him. He uses Rhys to his own gain while holding him accountable over Parker keeping her job...
There is no angst, there is humor, sex scenes are great (5 on the scale rating of 1 extremely clean -10 Fifty Shades) and of course there is an HEA.
I really enjoyed this duo of authors. Hope they write another one soon!
- Reviewed in the United States on April 10, 2024Okay, so I listened to this book on Audio because Alex Kydd is the MMC and I was so impressed. I went into this audio thinking it was a boxing book, because of the boxing gloves on the front obviously. If you’ve read any of my posts or reviews, you may know this about me, but I don’t read the synopsis. I prefer to go in blind based solely on a quote, the trope, or in this books case the fact that Alex Kydd was the narrator. Well, and boxing was also a plus! But this really wasn’t a boxing story, it’s more about an ex boxer and his struggles with why he quit the sport he loved. He begins fake dating an engineer/environmentalist. But he quickly finds himself enamored with her and wondering if she could ever feel the same. With that being said, he does teach boxing to kids, and there is a boxing match in this book (past or present, who knows?! 🤷🏼♀️ I don’t want to give spoilers).
These two main characters were so opposite on so many things, but the things they had in common were adorable and mattered. It’s always the little things for me , I love the little things. So the fact that they both watch animal documentaries and their favorite movies are from the same series is the best!!
Their banter was adorable and exactly what you would expect from two completely opposite people. She is prim and proper and comes from money. She doesn’t cuss, graduated from MIT, and is now an engineer. He is more blue collar except that he was the heavy weight champion boxer, before he retired. Now he runs the gym that he is struggling to keep above water. And he throws out cuss words, like they are candy! Okay, so there really isn’t that much cussing, but that part of the story is funny!
She originally hires his younger brother to be her boyfriend for events but he wants his brother to get a real job, so he crashes the dinner and confronts her. Then he takes on the job instead mostly to piss her off, but he also sees an opportunity to find a sponsor for his gym.
This book only goes up hill, I’m typically not a huge fan of the really slow burn, but this one was soo good, it’s like it distracted me from the fact that there was no $pi(€y time going on. But it came eventually!

I had a pretty good time reading this book until about 70%. I laughed. I got the warm giddy feeling. I got to 70%. I just had a feeling of being tired of the villain and the couple always being around him. I needed more relationship growth outside of being near him. I took a break. I tried to find the love again by pushing through. It just never got as enjoyable as it was. I like these authors writing together. I hope we get more. It might just be a case of weird things bugging me.

Awesome read, funny and fast pacing. Wishing there is a story on Dean and his love life (hopefully with Zoe)!

5.0 out of 5 stars Really great
Great plot, very well written ( 4 hands are better then two???), structured and deep protagonists and nice setting. I also loved that the two protagonists were not super young (above 30) with experience, and with interesting careers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great unexpected read
A heart warming story with characters that grow throughout the novel. The plus for me was a great story line and interesting twists and turns. Recommended reading!

5.0 out of 5 stars A fun story, light yet full of emotion.
I smiled a lot and got good laughs. Some of the smiles were tender, the characters were that lovable. I recommend if you want a good balance between sweet romance and sexy times.
