Ozzie made a very brief appearance in the last Ivy Nash book. Now, as the reader really meets him, he is living through what has to be the worst series of events of his life - his wife has left him, his law firm is raided by feds, his father has a heart attack, and things get worse from there. Several seemingly unrelated situations become intricately interwoven as the story progresses. The final outcome is not likely to be what you think, in more than one respect. Since this is the first book in this part of the series, it's not as critical that one has read the previous stories. If you do start with this one, however, I hope you go back and read the earlier works. You'll be glad you did. This is an outstanding read, while also being part of a dynamite series. Mr. Mefford has definitely become one of my favorite authors

I loved the story line. Then characters were well done also.
The story started off gangbusters, I thought this was going to be a great read, but somewhere about 50%, it lost its way. Not totally, but some things just didn't add up any more. You start thinking, "What are the odds?"
His ex-cop P.I. friend is packing up and leaving town to get away from the bad guys, but our lawyer friend jumps right in? And then the wife? I mean??
Still a good read, 4 stars

OH MY GOODNESS! Think John Mefford’s Redemption Series couldn’t get any better? Well think again! Get ready to be blown away with another look at the character Ozzie. Tested like a bad headache, he faces one believable problem after another. Be prepared to push aside any work, return calls, or visits for the day. Ozzie will capture your time until the last page is read. Oh my goodness is this a good one! High five for excellence, John! You have written another winner for us. Patiently waiting for the next. :)

An ARC was provided free of charge for my honest review. It’s a pleasure to be included for my opinion from a talent such as Mr. Mefford. Thank you and congratulations on another bestseller.

Ozzie was first introduced in an Ivy story, but now the focus is on him and his family. He has truly the worst day possible at the beginning of the story and the rest of the story is trying to find answers for how and what occurred.

During the answers we have intrigue, violence, new friendships, a career change and questions given and some answers found. The ending is quite a cliffhanger and the connecting of characters and questions was entertaining. Ozzie was screwed over by his father, but the rationale at the end was somewhat sweet? I liked having Brook come over from Ivys stories and found the condition to the bombing and the other town a great transition.

I don’t like Ozzies wife(soon to be ex?), but I did find her role in everything a unique twist. The cliffhanger was not expected but did answer a question since I have read some Alex stories that occur later in the series. Can’t wait to read what happens cut in Ozzies new job as a P.I. and finding his daughter!

It goy my attention and I expected that I would continually be drawn into it. However, somewhere down the line I began to lose interest and at one point was hoping it would end! All in all I simply rounded off what I thought was a three and a half rating.

John Mefford has done it again. This is a new protagonist in his Redemption series and he has broken his own mold. The protagonist is male, married, and is handicapped (he has a hearing problem). Ozzie is having a bad day. His wife, Nicole, has told him she is separating from him. Feds show up at work and arrest his dad. And, the cherry on the top, his dad suffers a heart attack while being arrested. His father dies in hospital but Ozzie does not believe it was natural. He believes that it was murder. The closer he gets to the truth, the more he invites disaster. When push comes to shove, will he be able to withstand the pressure?
An outstanding opener for a new series.

As the first book in the Ozzie Novak series, we sure got a good look at his emotions. I, for one, felt such empathy for ALL of his circumstances. But we also got a look at his quirky sense of humor (or maybe it was that of author, John Mefford ...The "in the blink of an eye reference", among others. Meanwhile, the crime part of this story was unexpected ... several times over. I loved the twists. This was a great book to start the series. I can't wait to read the next book!!!

I got this book after reading the first couple of pages, there was something original in the way the author wrote. The main character is real in his responses to the things he experiences while having skills to get him out of situations, however, it doesn't come across as unbelievable. The story itself is also well woven and as the many threads come together you can look back over it and see how it could actually happen. If you are not looking for real don't be put off there is plenty of action, twists and turns, and at the very end, there is a decided curveball. Really enjoyed this and I will look out for more from this author. I have just checked and there is plenty of other books by him I can enjoy reading.

An exciting thriller with several twists and turns. There were one or two parts I found a tad unlikely (such as the opportune appearance of a dog at one point) but overall this was an entertaining read.
