M. Ruth McCants, PhD, UMTC Elite Educator. As a multi-instrumentalist teaching piano, theory, composition, and improvisation, I find myself fascinated with finding ways to unlock the music and the "inner musician." Even though the piano has always been my companion instrument, the violin, steel drum (pan) and framedrum are also a part of my musical family.
In addition to teaching, I facilitate group drumming, sounding and toning for well-being, as well as using the transformative process of "Tapping" (Emotional Freedom Technique EFT). Through my "Sounds Symbols Alchemy" program, I especially encourage and support women's rituals and empowerment through drumming, and using visual/ intuitive symbol systems of astrology, tarot and oracle cards.
More and more, I find that working with individuals in group settings brings us into deeper connection with one another. Because music is an innate part of every individual, it is the perfect creative, expressive and spiritual art form for activating our shared experience of humanity. Along with visual arts, music creation and playing go beyond borders, and speaks to the heart and soul of being.
