    The story of Toren and Simone is another action packed, sexy installment in the Galactic Gladiators series. Set on the desert world of Carthago, the novel continues the saga of several earthlings stuck across the universe afteran alien race abducted them and took them through a temporary wormhole. They can never return to Earth. Each strives to make a new life in the new world , but Simone has the added challenge of making a home for her daughter Grace. Two gladiatorial houses have taken in the majority of the women and one man. Simone was rescued by the house of Rone, which is made up of cyborgs, including Toren, and unenhanced individuals. In the rescue operation that liberated Simone and Grace, Toren was seriously damaged. That damage affected his nervous system, flooding him with emotions, something totally unfamiliar to him. Unable to fight until he has healed, he is aided in learning to deal with his emotions by the equally damaged Simone. As they work to rescue another earth woman, will they heal and grow closer?

Simone was a strong, smart, single parent of a daughter who likes to make bombs. I really liked her and Grace. Toren was the quiet, controlled cyborg but now he is emotional and out of control. He can’t control his feelings except when he is with Simone. She calms him and makes him realize emotions aren't bad things.

    “Emotions are messy. They don’t run in a straight, predictable line. You can’t have the highs without the lows.”

    Together these two not only heal each other and find love but they fight the Edull and get valuable information. It’s just a matter of time before they are taken down and all the humans are safe.

    Overall, I loved this addition to the story and I can’t wait for the next one. I need to see grumpy Maxon fall in love. Oh and I also love seeing how great Toren was with Grace. It was so sweet I couldn’t get enough of it.

    Paladin is the fourth book in the House of Rone / Galactic Gladiators world. Anna Hackett has delivered another great read with just the right amount of romance and thriller. Toren is still healing from the battle with the Edull the freed Simone and her daughter Grace. He is experiencing emotions for the first time and having trouble adapting to them. Because he's unpredictable, Toren hasn't had his weapons system re-implanted which causes him to doubt his worth and contributions to the House of Rone. Grace is doing her matchmaking best to get Toren and Simone together and in doing so help both Toren and her mother to heal. Simone is drawn to Toren and determine to help him learn about and accept his emotions whilst fighting her attraction to him. And the Edull just keep coming.

However being a fan of Anna’s through her Norcross series I decided to give the Galactic Gladiator Series a try and they did not disappoint. I’m hooked. I recommend that you start with the first book Gladiator before moving on to the Galactic Gladiators: House of Rone. I am currently bingeing the series and am up to Book 4 and cannot wait to see the exciting conclusion with Maxon and Bellamy’s story. Give it a try. Definitely worth it!! 💫

    This would have been a 5 except 1 of the 3 novellas was already printed in another book - yes it was disclosed but I dislike having to re-purchase simply to get the 2 new ones. While I enjoyed the very small novella about Magnus's background - it added to the overall saga in a general way only and would have been better as a freebie on the author's website. The 2d "new" novella was entertaining as usual and once again the author managed to pack lots of action/romance into a small book. The whole gladiator theme is so interesting and a real different take on the paranormal genre. And again, the author has almost flawless writing which I greatly appreciate and I believe other authors severely underestimate the impact of that on readers' willingness to purchase and read their work.

Don't expect a big deviation from the basic formula. It's sad because the writer has a fun basic concept. The delivery is just unimaginative, or lazy. Not sure which.

    Dr. Simone Li and her daughter Grace were captured by Thraxian slavers, who attacked their exploration spaceship and were sold to the cruel Edulls. They were rescued by the cyborgs of the House of Rone. On this rescue Toren was injured badly and his emotional dampers couldn't be fixed. Now he is flooded with emotions and unable to cope. Simone is drawn to him, so she wants to help him, but both have to suffer under their wounded hearts. To rescue Bellamy both go into the desert, they fall in love with each other, but will Toren have his emotions dampened again?
    I loved to read the book. It has a gripping story and good and strong characters, a little diversion, I enjoyed, is the bomb building, highly intelligent daughter Gracie. I highly recommend this book and look forward to the story of Bellamy and Maxon.

    From the moment Cyborg and Scientist meet, there is an instant connection. Although each of these books can be read and can stand alone, in many ways they are not, as the next romantic couple meet at the end of the previous book. This is the case with Simone and Toren. He is part of the rescue team and he hits it off with Grace, Simone's daughter and an absolute genius!! But the rescue goes awry and he is damaged. His inability to deal with his emotions are the result of this damage but he finds that Simone has a calming effect on him. Yet again, all cyborg hands are wanting to rescue yet another captive whom they could not rescue before. So we are privy to plans to destroy the Edull fighting arena and rescue those young women and the other aliens who are slaves of the villainous Edulls. Another great plot. Some may say that Ms. Hackett's books are formulaic but.they pack an emotional pynch and marry successfully some strong characters with great action. I have enjoyed every book of hers, whether it be the Team 52, or the House of Galen series, or the Treasure Hunters. The characters are fun, larger than life and the men are the same!! Love them all!!
