Paul Is Dead Kindle Edition

3.6 out of 5 stars 4 ratings

On October 12, 1969, an anonymous caller dialed in to Detroit radio station WKNR-FM and told DJ Russ Gibb that “Paul McCartney died in 1966” and then offered up a bevy of clues to authenticate his theory.

Two days later,
The Michigan Review published an article by student Fred LaBour, who had listened to the exchange on Russ Gibb’s show, and not only did he agree that Paul died in 1966, but he went further. Using the initial theory as a springboard, LaBour posited the idea that McCartney had been replaced by a double to save the souls of tens of millions who wouldn’t be able to bear the news of the smiling Beatle’s untimely demise. As proof, LaBour told his readers all they had to do was listen to the lyrics on the latest Beatles albums, sometimes playing them backwards, and check out the cover art. The band was methodically laying out the true story of Paul’s death and replacement for fans astute enough to read the signs.

Paul Is Dead picks up where those conspiracies end, taking a slightly opposite, askew approach, going straight to the heart of a larger question – whywould anyone want to believe Paul had died in the first place? Rumors that sweep the world don’t congeal out of thin air. Whatwas going on in the years between 1966 and 1969 that could convince a significant part of the population that their favorite Beatle may have either committed suicide or disappeared? Even more, had been replaced?

It's a legitimate question, one that gets bigger
the further you dig into the story. For it requires not only a return to the origins of Paul McCartney, but to the origins of the Cold War world where young entertainers became unknowing proxies for intelligence services, and to the beginnings of how the notion of “fame” changed in a society given over to the non-stop presence and influenceof media and television.

The story of
Paul Is Dead also doubles as the story of how our modern world was birthed, and how it has driven all of us – possibly Paul McCartney included – to a universal manic state of alienation, fragmentation, image worship, mass hysteria, confusion, and conspiracy. But it’s also a modern world that can be deciphered and decoded using the skeleton key provided by Mennuti and Mancuso, who lift the veil on what our programmers call “entertainment” and “culture” to show the manipulative heart underneath, and a way past the powerful messaging.

Wow. What a great read. If you are interested in the Paul/Faul subject, this is a must-read.

This book is different from the usual Paul Is Dead books or videos. It doesn't spend a lot of time on the facts and figures. If you are new to the controversy, you would be better off spending some time catching up, through good YouTube channels, such as Justice for James Paul McCartney or the documentary, the Winged Beatle.

But this author goes into more detail about the formation of the Beatles, how they and other groups were likely inventions of the Tavistok Institute and nefarious people, like Adorno of the Frankfurt School, and govt. intelligence organizations. And this is vital for all people to understand, how the hippie movement was all carefully orchestrated to sever young people's ties to family, religion and country -- and to get them so whacked out on drugs that they wouldn't protest the Vietnam War. (The book, Weird Scenes from the Canyon by Dave McGowan, is also a great read on the subject of controlled and planned rock groups and the intelligence connections.)

What I love about this book is how keenly the authors analyze small details that are just simply reported in the other books. Then, with the skill of detectives, they cast all sorts of doubts and pitch very interesting theories.

For instance, Paul fell in love with aristocratic Jane Asher and the two went to live in the attic with her parents. This is reported elsewhere, but how weird is this? Paul was fabulously rich at this time. The two could have lived in a country estate or on Malibu beachfront. But instead they go to live with her parents? Jane's father just happened to be involved in LSD research on involuntary subjects and all kinds of other sinister business. The authors hypothesize that Jane was a honeypot and the family was charged with keeping an eye on Paul.

Lots of fascinating items like this.

I have one complaint about this book. The authors curse throughout the book, which decreases the professionalism of the writing. I don't want to continually have to read through "f" bombs to read a book. I hope that if they do an update, they will remove the cursing.

Shocking I didnt know about this and cant believe its the way stories could be formed before social media. None of this would have been possible today. Well told!
