Peter and the Wolves Kindle Edition

4.2 out of 5 stars 308 ratings

My name is Peter Royale, and I am the son of the ruling Duke of Novoberg.

At least, I was until my brothers locked me out of the city after dark, changing my life forever—all because I am refined, fey, and love men.

Now I am a pup for a pack of five ravenous wolves. Every day they use me for their own enjoyment, and though I know I’m destined for more, it’s more love than I have ever known.

But my life of carnal bliss is still not enough. Not when the kingdom we belong to is in jeopardy, and not when there is so much more I want to experience.
Will I have to leave the pack behind to be the man I was born to be?

AUTHORS NOTE: This is the second edition of Peter and the Wolves. Rewrites were done in June 2024 to resolve continuity errors and to bring the character of Peter and his story more in line with what transpires in the rest of the books in the series and beyond. The essence of the narrative has not changed, though.

CONTENT WARNING - PLEASE BE ADVISED: Peter’s “experiences” in this book are not all sunshine and roses. Some of them are harsh. There is a scene of dub con, coerced drug use, and non con that is not in any way glorified or condoned, but is essential to Peter's character development. Steam Level - SUPER steamy!

One last thing –
This is not a wolf-shifter romance.

Review

***** "HOLY SH*T! If you've read Merry's historical romances (I loved The Brotherhood series)...this is not that! It's dark and twisted and fantastic and SO STEAMY! ... Absolutely fantastic!" - Rainbow Romantic Reader
***** "I really enjoyed this. I even loved it. It is one of those stories that I won't forget, no doubt. ... Not just a win but these two books from Merry Farmer [Peter and the Wolves and Peter and the River] went up straight for this year's best reads for me. This story is overflowing with romance, heartbreaks, sex, and political talks. " -
Cal, Goodreads Review

***** "I loved this something fierce. Peter is such an interesting character. I thought he would be submissive af but dude is FIERY." -
Stephanie, Goodreads Review

**** "I thought it was exceptional. Peter and the wolves have very complex dynamics in a polyam setting, and some of the character beats had me sitting back just to bask in how well they landed. I also didn't expect to love Peter as much as I did by the end, but he's such a layered character, and he grows and evolves so much - becomes stronger, surer, steadier, and paradoxically, exactly what he'd been trained to be, if in a completely different situation than anything he might've imagined growing up. And the best part is that there are more books coming in the series, so we'll get to see him continue to evolve. Can't wait!" -
Lee, Goodreads Review

I went into this book, thinking it would be like a shifter omega book, boy was I wrong!... but in a good way.

Peter was of noble birth, the son of a Duke. Cast aside for his sequel preference and femininity, he was literally thrown to the wolves. Being found by Dimitri was a blessing and a curse. Treated as a "pup" of the pack helped Peter with his sequel awakening and the love of their leader, Sascha. What a journey this was. Can't wait to read more.

This was not at all what I expected and was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed Peter’s story. Read the content/trigger warnings.

I loved this book so much. Peter took me by storm. He's very complicated but always so strong. I really resonated with him. I'm proud that in his situation he still managed to keep hold of himself rather than becoming consumed by petty vengeful manipulation. It would have been understandable! I appreciated the content warnings that specified the chapters. I knew I wanted to still read those scenes but the warnings allowed me to check in with myself and make sure I was good first. I'm so excited there are six books in this series and since Peter is in the title in all of them I really hope I'll get to spend more time with him. Go Peter! I'm going to tear through this series and I'm so excited.

This was a great read and kept my attention throughout the series. To be honest, outside of the exciting storyline, I kept reading, hoping that I would start to like the leading characters. However I found I could never truly like Peter, nor Magnus. I think I understood the motivation behind their actions but I just couldn't truly appreciate them. Give me Neil and Sasha any day.

The way Peter is portrayed has some eerily relatable qualities that make me feel like I’m looking in a mirror and taking stock of myself.
I’m reading the rest of this series.

So, as I have read in other reviews, Peter can be a very unlikeable character. This continues into the next book. At times, I downright despised him in Peter and the River.
However, I believe you're about to meet the best characters in the series starting in book 2. That's why I am writing this review. This series keeps getting better, including the series that follows it up.
Peter's character definitely has an arc. It's worth following!

I am a Merry Fan and I am also an ARC reviewer for her HR books so this is a different genre for me. I have to say it was mind-blowing to say the least. Her imagination is beyond belief and this one is really out there but so fascinating and enthralling that you can't put it down. The world she has created is incredible. From the very beginning, it sucks you in and grabs you just as it does Peter. You actually feel like you are there with him in this forest with these unusual men. You take this very odd and sometimes very scary journey with him as he is used and abused but in the process he finds himself. The road is hazardous and very bumpy but it is interesting to be walking around in his head while all of this craziness is going on. I labeled the title "Peter,Peter" because there are definitely two of him in his head. I am looking forward to reading the next ones in the series. 4 1/2****
