About the author

I was born in Hanford, California in 1969. In the mid 1970's, my father began a Law Enforcement career just up the road with the Kingsburg Police Department, taking our family there. It was in junior high school when things began to take shape. I discovered horror novels - books by Stephen King, Clive Barker and Michael Slade, to name a few - , as well as hard rock music. These influences began to form a spark of creativity within me. I began to play guitar and pen song lyrics, but soon found myself confined in that tight medium, desiring to do longer works.
After high school, I moved on to the local community college where I met my wife. By this time, I had written a handful of short stories, a couple of novellas and had begun writing the novel that would become, “Dance on Fire”.
Career changes, building a family, and the busyness of life impeded my writing at this point. It wasn’t until I came to the realization near my fortieth birthday, that I didn't want to go to the grave with any regrets, that I plunged headlong into the dust-covered novel in earnest and not only completed it after twenty years, but started and completed its sequel soon after.
My family still makes its home Kingsburg, which is the setting for my vampire series, and perhaps a few other things as well. For my day job, I am an Administrative Manager for Sun-Maid Growers of California.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 26, 2020I bought the book brand new, paperback. It was delivered in flawless condition. Shipping and delivery took a week or so, but I barely noticed the time flew by.
As for the story goes, the back jacket doesn't service the book well. It gives the impression the book is a classic women's fiction mystery, but the prologue had me whispering to myself, "This book isn't what you think it is." And that theme just seemed to unravel itself to me chapter by chapter, and Garcia didn't stop surprising until the book ended. I swear I had it all figured out by page 189, and what does Garcia do? Throw me another twist!
Still unconvinced whether to buy this? Check out my full review at writerdannyraye.com! I feature a link at the bottom that will redirect you straight to this page because come on, you're going to want to buy it and experience the twists and the characters and the adventure yourself!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 10, 2021If I can visualize it through the words of the author, it is a great book. James Garcia Jr. does an excellent job of holding his audience with visual imagery. The images of time long ago in the old house were my favorites. I felt like I was there in the house with the main character and her ghostly housemate Allison Belle. The mystery of the house kept me riveted to this novel as well. Like his novel Seeing Ghosts I could not put this down. I highly recommend this book to all fans of mysterious, paranormal stories. I also recommend other books by James Garcia Jr.
