Love On The Potomac (New Adventures in Love Book 3) Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 27 ratings

When Kyle agreed to spend Christmas in England with family and friends, he didn’t expect to meet Jon, the attractive and sexy cousin of his Dad’s boyfriend’s BFF. But that’s exactly what happened.

A brief hook-up in England quickly turned into texts, calls, several video chats, and even a weekend together in New Mexico. Now, four months after their fateful meeting at Christmas, Jon is coming to visit Kyle in DC.

Kyle is very excited with the prospect of spending more time with Jon, but planning a fun—and romantic—time with Jon is only half the battle. Eventually Kyle will need to tell his Dad—who may have issues with the fact that Jon is thirteen years older than Kyle.

Sightseeing, a river cruise on the Potomac, figuring out how to broach the subject of an older man with Dad, and gathering support wherever he can, Kyle is doing everything he can to find love on the Potomac.

When it comes to love, there isn’t a moment to waste. Moving house just needs a truck. Moving one’s heart into another’s takes a leap of faith. In this telling we get it all.

Jon is a last minute addition to Christmas in England but a very welcome one, especially by Kyle. I was so happy to get a story with Kyle.

This was a wonderful 3rd book in the “New Adventures in Love” series. We were introduced to this story’s MCs in the 2nd book “Love for the Holidays”. The books are standalone type but a continuation type as well.

The story focuses on Kyle, the son of Rob who we first meet in “Love on the Horizon” and Jon who is Ben, Rob’s partner’s best friend’s cousin. They met and hooked up while on vacation in England in “Love for the Holidays”. After the vacation, they agreed to keep in touch. Kyle flew back to DC and Jon flew back to Phoenix. They’d keep in touch each night via web conferencing. Jon had a conference in Albuquerque, New Mexico and invited Kyle to spend time with him there. That’s where I get giddy…mentioning all these cool places in Albuquerque for romantic times! The issue is Jon is much older than Kyle and Kyle wasn’t sure how to broach the topic with his dad, in fear of his reaction. That’s where I’ll stop and strongly encourage you to read the sweet story. I’ll also encourage you to read the first two books if you haven’t done so. Would make a sweet Gay Hallmarkesque type of series.

When book two ended after a Christmas celebration in England at Ben’s family home exciting things happened. Rob and Ben are now engaged, and Ben’s son Kyle met Samantha’s cousin Jon and unbeknownst to everyone Kyle and Jon found themselves attracted to each other.

Now everyone is home and Jon and Kyle want to continue seeing each other to see if there is a chance for a long-lasting relationship. Kyle lives in DC and Jon in Phoenix, so distance is a problem, but an even greater problem is Jon is thirteen years older than Kyle. Kyle and Jon are sure that they can overcome the distance, their age difference is not an issue but the big elephant in the room is how Ben will handle his son dating a man much older than him.

Before Kyle and Jon decide to reveal their relationship, they first must spend more time together to see how they really feel about each other. Texting, FaceTime, videos are fine, but Jon asks Kyle to spend a weekend with him and it was that weekend that proved they were in it for long term. Kyle is still hesitant to reveal everything to Rob and Ben, so the perfect solution is a river cruise on the Potomac. Four nights together, no job, no parents, just them.

Jon had a past relationship that has brought his confidence very low in addition to problems with his mom who is not happy that he is gay and in the next breath tells him to find someone so he can have children. Two wonderful men who found each other during Christmas and have a chance for a future if all the problems standing in their way can be overcome.

Kyle is a man who always has a plan and Jon is only too happy to go along with him. There are a lot of things standing in the way of a future for them and the outcome is not something I will reveal. I look forward to seeing where Jon and Kyle go in their relationship and the wedding of Ben and Rob.

Lots more coming in this series, a series that should definitely be read in order.

A Christmas meet-cute-turned-hookup leads to a chance at love and a happily-ever-after for Kyle Rockingham and Jon Rivera, but each man has his own hurdles to overcome before that can happen. Kyle's dad may object to the age gap between his son and Jon, and Jon's mother needs to accept that her desire for grandchildren from Jon may be a pipe dream. And on top of all that, Jon needs to regain his confidence after the fiasco of his failed relationship with his ex broke his spirit and makes him second and third guess everything. That is really my biggest issue with this story. They are sweet together, but Jon irritates me because he just won't stop with the spiraling self-doubt and Kyle has to keep stepping up to pull him back from the edge. I wanted Jon to BE the more mature guy, not just in years, and that never happens. That plus the fact that the problems they face are so easily resolved, after they make them seem so formidable, was anticlimactic.

We met these characters in the previous book in the series and now they get a full book of their own. This book is just as good as the other two in the series. I liked the age gap between Jon and Kyle and I also liked the the older of the two, Jon isn't the dominant one in the relationship. He's had a bad break-up that left him insecure and that is added to the fact that is Mom is bound and determined to have grandchildren and he hasn't figured out how to be totally honest with her. Kyle, while younger, is able to step up to the plate and help Jon regain his self-confidence. Kyle also has to figure out how to tell his father he's in a relationship with an older man, but fortunately, these two together make a formidable team and everything works out fine. I loved the setting of this one as Jon comes to visit Kyle in DC and as usual in the series we get to do some sight seeing and eating with our characters.

I have enjoyed all three books in this series but will say this one was my least favorite but it is still worth the read. I just found it hard to get into, but once I did, I enjoyed it. It is about Kyle and Jon who are trying to make a long distance relationship work and most of the book deals with the many things working against them ever finding their happily ever after. if you like a good age gap and/or book about dating someone that family might not approve--this will be the book for you. It is a good read. You also should read the first two books to get the full impact of this one. I did receive an ARC and leave this honest review
