When Sparks Fly: The Lonely Heroes Series Spinoff (Prey for the Hunter Book 1) Kindle Edition
Bail bondsman Jesse Sparks hasn’t had an easy ride. He barely survived life-shattering allegations levied against his integrity that blew up his career as an arson investigator, and a divorce that left him afraid of commitment. Now, he faces more life-changing events—his secret, and surprising, attraction to Ryan, the handsome bond recovery agent who works for him, and the arrival of his estranged seventeen-year-old genius son who wants to move to Las Vegas to attend grad school and insists on living with him.
Ryan Montgomery has had the hots for his boss since the day he started working for the man. One day, his very private boss admits his teen son is coming to live with him in Las Vegas and he hasn’t seen the boy since he was five, and Jesse has no idea how to deal with the young man. Getting to know Jesse on a personal level stokes Ryan’s own burning desire for the man—the man he believes is straight, so he can never call him his own.
As if hunting down criminals who try to avoid being tried for their crimes isn’t dangerous enough, someone from Jesse’s past comes seeking revenge. Can the threat be neutralized before someone close to Jesse becomes collateral damage?

- Reviewed in the United States on April 24, 2024What a great start to a new series. Loved seeing some of the Lonely Heroes crew even in small rolls and look forward to seeing more of them. Jesse was so broken after everything that happened to him, all of it just so wrong. And his ex-wife? The person who should have had his back? So wanted to slap the woman. Hardy, that sweet young man, made me happy that he realized his dad was a genuinely good man. And then the sparks flew-Jesse and Ryan are perfect for each other. Can't wait to see how they grow in future book.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 6, 2024I enjoyed this new series. I really liked the bounty hunter vibe especially in Vegas. I didn't realize the Torrente connection until the end but I'm glad it was just a small addition. I thought the characters were really fleshed out and I'm excited for more.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 25, 2024Jesse and Ryan were absolutely adorable together. They were definitely in love with each other long before that first kiss, but that was perfect for them. I was so happy to see Hardy build a relationship with his dad. His mom is definitely not my favorite person. She should have never put distance between Hardy and Jesse. Ryan was amazing at helping Hardy get to know his father in a new way as they slowly built their relationship. The fact that he loves him as his own is unsurprisingly beautiful. I love their bail bond family so much. I have always been a huge fan of found family, and this series is gonna deliver that in spades!
- Reviewed in the United States on April 27, 2024It was nice to hear little bits about characters from former books. No need to know the book, just an extra for us who have read them. That said, I think I am really going to like this new group of men. They have interesting backgrounds that I am sure will play out in some way. I do hope that we find out the conspiracy that made Jesse Sparks lose his job and ultimately his family. I also would like to know where he gets his money. Maybe fugitive recovery is just that lucrative.
Jesse and Monty have circled each other for five years, ever since Monty came onboard. Jesse who was presumed to be a straight arrow has noticed Monty a lot. Even his employees have noticed. Monty has had a crush on Jesse from day one as well. Will they ever face their mutual attraction? Loved the addition of Jesse’s son, Harden aka Hardy. Cool story there. If you like MM romance with passion, some angst but lots of happy, you will want to start this new series of standalone stories. I volunteered to review an ARC of this book through Gay Romance Reviews.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 4, 2024There was a whole lot of something going on in this book. The interactions between all the players in this book, one might think they would be overwhelmed but this was a wonderfully balanced architectural work that wowed and thrilled me throughout. It brought up questions for me that I had not thought of before and for that I am grateful. It's always good to learn oneself better. This book brought me a lot of joy. Can't beat that! Totally glad I read this book and also totally glad that this is the first in a series. I'd say I'm ready for number two but that just sounds wrong!! So I'll just say I can't wait for the next book in this series. Enjoy!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 13, 2024I liked this story with Sparky, the older man discovering his sexual interest in his younger coworker Ryan. That trope totally drew me in.
I also liked the addition of Sparkys son, Hardy. Although I really liked the characters, Sparky sometimes irritated me because he didn't want to get involved with Hardy that he just left him Ryan.
I am super interested in the history of how Sparky lost his job and who may be setting him up. I will continue reading this series.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 23, 2024Jesse Sparks was a firefighter in Florida, but was injured and became an arson investigator. He was charged with taking bribes but there was never proof to convict. After his divorce he moves to Las Vegas to start a successful bail bond business. Harden/Hardy Sparks his son who hasn’t seen him since he was five is super intelligent graduating college at seventeen. Hardy wants to go to grad school in Vegas. The father/son relationship is very awkward with both having secrets. Enter Ryan (Monty) Montgomery one of Jesse bounty hunters who befriends Hardy and is their buffer. This book has so much happening that you can’t put it down. The characters are witty along with some of the situations.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great new spin-off
I loved the new series. I can't wait for the reveal about who was responsible for the set up. New cast of characters will be fun to read their stories.
