5.0 out of 5 stars An English classic for learners of English
Pride and Prejudice is one of the most famous books of English literature and one of the best loved. Here the story is presented in language that is accessible to intermediate (CEFR B1) students of English.
There is a saying that “true love never runs smooth” and Lizzie’s relationship with Mr Darcy is difficult from their first meeting. Gradually, however, dislike (on both sides) turns to respect and in the end to love.
The book is both of its time, describing the English middle class at the beginning of the 19th century, and of all time. It mixes serious issues of love and money with witty portraits of absurd characters.
Reading stories is an enjoyable way of improving language skills. Stories build vocabulary in context and a word list at the back of this book is a valuable aid to learning.
