Pride and Piña Coladas (PARADISE BAY SERIES Book 5) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 605 ratings

From best-selling author Melanie Summers comes a retelling of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice that’ll have you laughing, swooning, and sipping fruity blender drinks…

Nora Cooper—wildly unsuccessful plant fanatic and event planner at Paradise Bay Resort—is about to get her shot at ‘the big time.’ The resort is hosting the World Bartending Championships and she’s been asked to lead the hospitality team. If all goes well, she’ll be getting the promotion she’s been working toward for years.

There’s only one big problem—billionaire Theo Rojas, the major sponsor of the event, who seems determined to make Nora’s life a living hell. He’s stuck up, arrogant, and rude. When they wind up stranded together on a private island overnight, Nora starts to see a different side of him. She quickly forgets all the nasty things she wants to say as she is drawn into his deep brown eyes.

The last thing Theo Rojas needs is to fall for a colleague. His family’s global corporation, Rojas Rum, is still battling the fallout of a recent scandal that sent their sales plummeting. With thousands of employees relying on him to restore the company's good name, Theo will have to fight his growing feelings and try to stay away from Nora—no matter how hard it gets.

When an unexpected twist threatens to ruin Nora’s family, Theo steps in to save them, against his better judgment.

Will these two hard-headed opposites admit they're meant for each other, or will they miss out on their chance at love?

Pride and Piña Coladas is a Jane Austen retelling that’ll have you laughing, swooning, and sipping fruity blender drinks. It’s got it all—enemies-to-lovers, plenty of witty banter, a charming bad guy (who gets his comeuppance), forced proximity in the world’s most romantic location, and heartwarming, tender moments galore.

Review

With Melanie's heartfelt humor and storytelling, this was a great addition to the Paradise Bay series! -Emily T, What Emily is Reading

This book was so sweet and just so much fun. -Kristen Lewendon

The spot-on comedic responses. The relationship. The drama. The storyline. The titles. The news reports. I LOVED everything about this book and will recommend it all day long!!! -nerdynoriebooks

This was such a refreshing take on one of my favorite books. I can't wait to read the other books in the series! -Panic! at the library

The story line is familiar, but Ms. Summers's Caribbean spin on the Austen tale is so enjoyable and enchanting. Reading the original "Pride and Prejudice" was a high school homework bore — this version should be enjoyed with a fruity rum drink at hand. 5 stars for this guilty pleasure! -Linda, Goodreads Reviewer

This enemies to lovers romance will captivate you, tug at your heartstrings and in the end leave you happy... -Melanie M., Goodreads Reviewer

Are you needing some hope, love, second chances, or adventure in your life? If so this is the book you NEED to read. -Andrea W., Goodreads Reviewer

I have read many an adaptation to Austen’s classic, and this one gave me all the feels. Summers writes characters who are witty, snarky, and fun to think about. Now combine them with the best romance in history! This one is different because Summers did a fabulous job of giving the story her own spin. Thank you! I get bored when authors blatantly try to follow Austen’s. This adaptation is clever, subtle, and perfect for the series. I can’t wait for the next one.

I love how Ms. Summers keeps adding more people to the island and then finding ways to intermingle their lives.

Theo and Nora are going to have a fabulous life...I just know it!

I can always count on a Melanie Summers book to make me smile, laugh and lift my spirits. In the Paradise Bay series you'll be transported to a Caribbean island with white sand beaches, clear turquoise blue waters and lush vegetation. In Pride & Piña Coladas the cast of characters include; a stuffy workaholic CEO who borders on rude most of the time, an resort events coordinator who is trying to earn a big promotion and has to wrangle an eclectic group that includes a TV production crew, the event sponsors management team, and the contestants for the world bartending championship. Yeah, fun times!! This enemies to lovers romance will captivate you, tug at your heartstrings and in the end leave you happy as Theo and Nora get their HEA.

So these books are going downhill fast for me now... They're like Hallmark movie plots...

    Guy and girl have attraction
    Guy and girl fight attraction
Guy and girl fall in love
Guy and girl misunderstand each other
Guy and girl avoid each other
Guy and girl and others (kid sister) are immature overall
Guy and girl realize they can't live without each other
Guy and girl reconcile and get back together

But guy and girl don't do that til the very end and there's no passion or steamy scenes. Very young adult oriented books that would be more fun to read with some fun bedroom scenes.

All the character personalities have been similar too. The "be-otch" is such a juvenile term and in all the books it seems.

Fun fun fun! This book was such a great break from the books I have been reading lately. It was light hearted and just easy and fun to read. The characters were great and I enjoy this author’s writing. Definitely will be reading more

Author really has not disappointed. I read each series and I really enjoyed them all. I can see the author doing a theme of the women being sophisticated strong women and the men except the one in book 5 are jerks (laughs) joking but they do start to humble themselves and embrace their emotions. I love the series it makes me want to visit paradise bay

I say this every review but I love Melanie Summers books. They are just always consistently enjoyable. I have to admit at first this one I was not loving the characters like I normally do but they came around and the personalities were pertinent to the story and it was a good story! Already looking forward to the next one.

Your books are just the right blend of anger, fun and the right ending. There are some steamy bits, but not too much I want to flip pages to get on with the book. You have an amazing ability to portray the vulnerabilities of your characters. That is what keeps me coming back. Knowing I only have one more in this series left is already leaving me a little desolate.
    You are a star.

3.0 out of 5 stars another fun read in paradise!
Reviewed in Canada on December 17, 2022
I always enjoy Melanie Summers books and returning to the Paradise Bay world is a fun treat! I think this book actually marks my fifth book reading in this ‘world’! This one is a standalone in the same world and while it’s fun to see the side characters from other books, you could enjoy it all the same even if you haven’t read another book in the series.

I can’t say this is my favourite book of Melanie’s though. It was decent, good even, but it missed a bit of something extra I can’t place a name on for me… perhaps because I just read Even Better Than the Real Thing, I’m comparing it too much! Pride and Pina Coladas was quick read, it held the little laughs, cuteness, drama, and love I’ve come to expect in a Melanie book. 3.4 stars
