"The Jesus Boy" is a fast-paced spiritual warfare drama with a touch of romance; this novel is NOT for children

Fourteen-year-old Joshua Phillips dares to follow Jesus with all his heart, mind, and strength. As signs and wonders follow the teen, his impact affects everyone around him. But following the Master isn’t without trials. When Sammy his little brother struggles with an aggressive sickness seemingly resistant to Joshua's prayers, when unexpected news arises to all regarding the mysterious girl he's courting, Lydia Claremont, and when darkness arises within the community bent on snuffing Joshua out, these collide with Joshua's determination to follow the One. Will Joshua stay true to the One or will he compromise and lose his way? Joshua is whispered to be the Jesus boy.

Praise for "The Jesus Boy":
"This is a novel that you don't forget in a hurry and it lingers with you! I will remember it fondly and with great respect and admiration! It is now in the category of one of my favourite novels out of the hundreds I have read (Goodreads says 1377)..." Peter Younghusband, Perspective by Peter (Top 50 Christian Book Reviewer)

"The style of script is almost lyrical and flows. It's such eloquent writing that it was enjoyable, a feast for the eyes and mind. Supernatural elements, glimpses into the spirit realm battling over Joshua and his actions, gave the book added depth. Also, building intrigue and romance enhanced the already interesting staple." WriteReadFred Blog, Book Reviewer

"'The Jesus boy' by Sean Elliot Russell gives us a wonder. This spirit-filled superhero Jesus boy presents an urban fantasy as an extension of true reality. The characters compel us to look at ourselves—if we’ve never done that. Several times I found myself reexamining my relationship with the Lord. The whole story lifts up the love of God in the lives of believers and non-believers. It satisfied me deeply. I believe it is an exceptional book... Rarely do we find a book this well done with such spiritual strength. This shows us how much can be done with Spirit-Filled fiction." David Bergsland, Radiqx Press

"I have not read a story like this in a very long time, brings to mind the Screw-tape Letters. The way the author brings the enemy to life and shows how influential he can be, focused and fixed on our destruction, while at the same time showing the love and desire for our souls by The One. It was captivating! Really made me look at everyday situations differently." Nicole Thomas, author of the "Tales of Elhaanai Series"

"This is an exceptional book, filled with interesting characters that you end up caring about, a storyline that took me from fear to tears to laughter, and inspiration..." Glen Robinson, author of "The Champion," "Elijah," & many other books

"... a gripping tale..." C.S. Wachter, author of "The Sorcerer's Bane" & many other novels.

"... a moving and delightful story..." Steve Pillinger, author of the "Mindruler Series"

More Praise:

"Parts of the novel had me trembling in fear to the point of using a nightlight, while other parts had me searching for a box of tissues. I could feel the gaping holes in my heart getting smaller and smaller, as God’s healing love flowed over me." Sharon Strickland

"
This book was delicious! It reminded me of 'This Present Darkness' by Frank Peretti, only more expansive in knowing God personally. My new favorite book!" Marie Taylor

"This was a very different sort of book. The writing was almost lyrical. The story made me cry and shudder in turn." Jes Drew

"The storyline was exciting." TrulyJen

"It’s not just a book, it’s an experience that stays with you long after you’ve turned the last page." M. Gabriella

This is a spiritual warfare novel… But it's not terrifying nor spooky! it is incredibly well written and is just a phenomenal book. I read with an elderly friend who is in a nursing home and we read on the phone. I couldn't find this in the library unfortunately so I had to buy it for her from a used bookstore where I could read mine on my Kindle. But both the seller thriftbooks.com AND My Kindle version dovetail very well and my friend is enjoying it as we read aloud to each other. I highly recommend this book

I'm also going to emphasize this is not a book geared for young people. It's meant for adult reading… It would be appropriate for a teenager as long as you were monitoring it a little bit because some of it is pretty intense. I probably would recommend it for 16 and older simply because some of it is really intense, but for a parent to read it and then decide to give it to a child if they thought it was appropriate would be their decision. But it is an incredible incredible book

This book I found to be a wonderful read. The context of the story so relatable and easy to identify with. This led to being able to derive much meaning from the spiritual narration of what faith really looks like in our thoughts and inner dialogue. This is an area of faith I don’t understand why it seems communities I’ve been a part of aren’t open to talk about. How nice it would be to relate with others on the challenges, the triumphs, the beauty and the awe of each of our faith walks. For now, I am grateful to have felt understood by reading Joshua’s faith story and relating it to my own.

The Jesus Boy spoke to my heart and reminded me of my own adolescent years of following Christ, when peer pressure of being popular and following the crowd was at the forefront of my mind. When I began reading the first chapter about how God spoke to Joshua and whispered, “Follow Me”, I felt a twinge of excitement and anxiety because what if God was speaking to me right now as I read this book? It has to be in my own head, right? Wait. Do I hear a whisper?

I continued reading Sean Elliot Russell’s novel and watched Joshua develop into a dynamic character, from a seedling to bearing fruit for God’s kingdom; a vital vessel in spreading the good news and the healing power of Jesus Christ to the kids in his school and even his own family.

Accepting the mission would come at a price, as looming darkness tried to infiltrate through Joshua’s weaknesses; allowing doubt, despair, anger and fear to penetrate through the holes of his heart. As Joshua faced many difficult trials and tribulations with his family, peers, bullies and enemies in his school, I was reminded of Daniel’s courage and trust in God when he was tossed into the lions’ den.

Sean’s novel will compel each of you to look into your own heart, as his words connect to you as the reader, and at some point you will no longer be a spectator. I thought of my own struggles and fears, and felt the holes of my heart light up, desperately needing the healing power of Jesus.

I heard a quiet whisper, “Follow Me.” I shook my head as I read on with skepticism. Is God talking to me? Who am I? I am broken and flawed. What good could possibly come from what I have been through and what about all of the terrible things I have done?

The development of each character, their real life struggles, fears and triumphs took me through a myriad of emotions, as I witnessed the power and love of Jesus Christ altering each soul from dark to light but then I stopped to ask, “Is God’s love powerful enough to heal me?”

Parts of the novel had me trembling in fear to the point of using a night-light, while other parts had me searching for a box of tissues. I could feel the gaping holes in my heart getting smaller and smaller, as God’s healing love flowed over me. You could be: a Joshua, a Lydia, a Brad, a Cary, or any of the other characters in this book.

Towards the end of the Jesus boy, the Holy Spirit whispered again, “Follow Me,” and my heart finally said: “Yes.” The light and love of God painted all of my cracks with gold, revealing the beauty of my scars. If you will say yes, God will use you and me as a vessel to heal the sick and the brokenhearted.

Like a ripple from a pebble being tossed into a pond, Joshua’s obedience of saying yes to the One, his life and all who knew him would never be the same. Say yes when God whispers to you, “Follow Me”, and your life will never be the same.
