A heart-stopping saga of soulmates and second chances that’s simply irresistible!
“You’re my everything.” ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ Second chance romances are my weakness, speaking to my soul like no other, and Monica Murphy’s Promises We Meant to Keep was my kryptonite. I was so swept away by this love story! It was so easy to become enamored with every character … possessed by every page … attuned to every word in this emotionally-charged romance that’s EVERYTHING! Set in the New York City, Promises We Meant to Keep is a brother’s best friend meets second chance romance. Sylvie is a beautiful bird trapped in a gilded cage who grows her wings to break free. Spencer is her dark knight, her all alpha who knows her like no other. This hero and heroine are full of fire, drawn together like a moth to a flame, and I couldn’t help but feel the undeniable connection of these soulmates. I love how Monica Murphy creates strong heroes and even stronger heroines who can go toe to toe with anyone. I didn’t just read and feel this heroine’s story; I became her. I bled this beautiful and brave woman who battles demons and defines survival and strength. Sylvie was my hero and she felt so real ... so relatable. I think many of us have a bit of Sylvie in us—layers of struggle and strength as we try to fight the weights of the past, grabbing life rafts, as we work to survive and embrace life. Promises We Meant to Keep is so much more than a brother’s best friend romance. It’s a smartly written and stunning story of struggle and strength that shines with a meaningful message that hits hard: Be kind as you don’t know what battles one’s fighting. A book so broken, beautiful, and brave that’s all the feels and all the things! This heart-stopping saga of soulmates and second chances is simply irresistible. 💋💋💋💋💋 ruby red kisses

Since Things I Wanted to Say (But Never Did) we've had a view of Sylvie as someone who can't be trusted. When we get to see her from her own perspective, it's partially true, but the whole story is so heartbreaking. From the first chapter you will learn that Sylvie has been in danger her whole life, that she's been telling horrible truths disguised as melodrama, exaggeration, and "lies." All she's ever been asking was for someone to believe her, and even the love of her life let her down. Spencer and Sylvie both needed to do some maturing before they can be together, and we see the before and the after.

Honestly it's hard to write this review without spoilers because even though truths are revealed early, you need to come into them with no knowledge and get your heart broken by them.

Spencer and Sylvie have been a thing since they were kids - even though he came from money he was never considered good enough for her, and the fact that he was her brother's best friend meant there was further tension that had them keep what they had a secret. Even as adults, there's an almost frightening intensity to their need for each other, and their need to be what the other person wants. It gets Spencer to take a hard look at his life choices, and makes Sylvie step up and be accountable for her actions and own her choices. At the end of the day though, this hurts because Sylvie is not healed by the end of this book - there's hope and possibility, but I love that we don't have this perfect bow as if love could "fix" her when what she endured was so intense. I also love that Sylvie is a character who sets boundaries to maintain her wellness - even when she's trying hard to stand on her own feet, she accepts that sometimes she needs Spencer to do things for her, and it isn't weak to need someone in that way. I definitely recommend being aware of content warnings if you want to go into this with a healthy mindset.

I cannot stress this enough: the intensity of Spence and Sylvie will pull you under, and their journey together will make you smile, cry, and gasp in shock. I never could have seen the end to this coming, and I definitely did not see how much I would like Sylvie by the end of it. It's been a long time since I've read a character that I so desperately want only good things for.

This is on par with the riot of emotions of Whit Lancaster's story - Sylvie is undoubtedly a Lancaster, with a life full of intrigue, chaos, and a love that is as unshakable as it is intense.

I have mixed feelings on this book. I think I would have like the story better if it had been the second book in the series. I feel underwhelmed after the last two books with Summer and Whit and Crew and Wren there stories were soooo good! I like the parts when they flashed back to Slyvie and Spencer at Lancaster prep tho and the story was okay but idk. Let’s see how Charlotte’s book is!

I only honestly have had to force myself to finish the rest of the series because I’m just not a fan, but this book in particular was the best out of all of them I felt like there was more plot in the story compared to the other ones. I also feel like the relationship between Sylvie and her mom is what some actually go through in life which I feel like it’s good representation for overbearing jealous parents. I overall liked seeing her growth throughout the story

Knowing the “why” to justify people’s actions, is a luxury some take for granted. Sometimes, there isn’t one. And that’s terrifying. While other times, you just don’t need the “why”.

Sylvie and Spencer’s relationship is toxic beyond belief. Yet, they can’t stay away from each other. Syl trying to heal herself from her past and the controlling, manipulative relationship she had with her mother. While Spencer has turned into a more bitter, ruthless person who tries to forget the magnetic force she has on him.

The weight this story holds goes beyond anything I could ever imagine. Not only with Sylvie living with the knowledge and assumptions by herself, but then to be blatantly screaming for help in her own way and not being hard? Just crushed my heart.

“That’s what I call her, when I have her in my arms, my lips on her neck, breathing in her delectable scent. She’s an angel. Heaven sent. With a sweet mouth and flashing blue eyes and the evilest laugh. That’s why it’s fun to call her my angel. Sylvie Lancaster is really the devil in disguise.”

“I like that you think I’m strong.” Her smile is big, and she tips her head back, staring up at the stars since there’s no roof over this part of the building. “You make me feel even stronger.”

“I swore this school year would be better, but it’s still all the same. All the time. She won’t leave me alone. I don’t feel normal. Ever. I don’t even know what that means or what it’s like. But being with you, and hanging out with Summer…you both help me forget who I really am.” Her smile is small. Sad. “A broken little doll with nothing to live for.”

“Did you want to be found?” Spence asks, his voice as soft as mine. I slowly shake my head. “Only by you.”

“My senses are buzzing, fully awake and attuned to this woman, and I understand completely why I came here. Why I sought her out. I’m still in love with her. Like a complete dumbas s.”

“You are jealous,” I murmur as I sit at the table, reaching for the cup of coffee waiting for me. I bring it to my lips and take a sip, pleased to find it’s exactly as I like it. “You’re the one I was on my knees for yesterday. Don’t forget that.”

“You are the only person in this entire world who makes me feel safe, Spence. Only you.” He leans in, nuzzling my cheek, his mouth at my ear. “I would destroy this entire world if it meant keeping you safe.”

“You belong to me,” he whispers in my ear, his hands on my hips guiding me. “There is nothing I won’t do for you, Syl. Not a single thing. You’re my everything.”

It was so cool to be inside this world once again!! If you read book one on the series, we all know that Sylvie was kinda the villain in that book, which made me hesitant to read her story.

But im glad i gave it a chance to see her redeem her actions. Tbh I pitied her and what she has been thru. She was abused by her own mother and neglected by her family. For that, she was toxic to everyone who was kind to her, which is understandable.

Im glad she found Spencer Donato who has always been there for her. The thing is that for years she used him and never took him serious. As the story starts, they reconnect again and they get to have a second chance.

Tbh im quite picky when it comes to romance, so this time I didn’t connect with these two as I wanted to. Yes, they deserved to be together, but their romance was quite bland. No emotions at all, which made me just like them, not love them as the previous couples.

Just so yk, the story fully evolves about Sylvie and her relationship with her mother, more than the romance itself. The story behind it, is quite original, i just didn’t like the conclusion, it was too rushed.

Honestly, I think Monica has better stories worth the read. It was cute, but not perfection to my taste.

I loved this book more than I expected! The growth of both characters really stood out to me. I appreciated how she began making decisions for herself, rather than seeking her mother’s approval or trying to provoke her. Some scenes made me cry a bit.

The wedding scene was beautifully done! Love that she wore the red dress for herself.

I already disliked her mother in the first book, but her actions in this one—especially in the final scene—horrified me.

The cameos from Whit and Summer as a couple and as parents were delightful; I love Whit and he a good brother.

I also loved the brief appearance of my favourite book couple, Crew and Wren.

Monica Murphy returns to the glittering Lancaster world with the story of a damaged woman who gets her chance to redeem herself with the one man who’s been in love with her forever...

What a book the journey Sylvie took through the pages will melt your heart.

Sylvie Lancaster the poor little rich girl that had all she wanted so people would say, but no one know's what goes on behind closed doors.

The only outlet Sylvie had was Spencer Donato her brother Whit's best friend. He was her security and he made her feel safe, but all that changes when Sylvie betrays him and breaks his heart.

No one knows the pain and insecurities Sylvie has and that is all thanks to her evil mother, she trusts no one and just wants to left on her own until she finally meets the only man she has ever loved once again at her brother wedding.

Let's just say the sparks are still there for Sylvie and Spencer and as you turn each page you will find out why, they was made for each other he is willing to stand by her and do whatever it take to make her happy and smile once again. And no one will mess with the women he has always loved who he will protect know matter who they are he will protect what is his at all costs.

A must read a page turner and lots of angsty moments in this book, but what a great read will Sylvie and Spencer get the HEA they deserve ? I guess you will have to read it to find out.
