- Reviewed in the United States on April 27, 2025This is a lovely story. Fun characters and amazing setting. It’s the second book in a series of three so I suggest you read book one first if you haven’t. But it’s not a requirement. This book stands on its own as well.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 1, 2025Alison Roberts book, From Provence With Love, is an excellent read. Once you start reading it, you won't want to put it down.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 12, 2025I absolutely loved this book. I visit Provence every year - it’s wonderful! This book captures the magic, the people, the land, the culture! Enjoy
- Reviewed in the United States on February 27, 2025Funny how things from our own upbringing keep us from enjoying life to it's fullest. Julia and Noah had both been hurt, and both felt they would live life alone. Enjoy the process of seeing them both realise what their heart really wants!!
- Reviewed in the United States on February 25, 2025From Provence, With Love is the second book in Alison Roberts' One Year in France series. I have already read the first novel in this series, Falling for Provence. and found it a nice romantic break from the mysteries that I seem to read most often. I was a bit confused when I began to read, since it seemed to begin the same way s book 1 in this series. I finally realized that this second book was going to focus on a different sister, Laura. Book 1 focused on Ellie. There are 3 sisters and so I hope there will be another book in this series.
I like the sisters and the other characters. They are all quite likable and enjoyable. In Laura's story in Provence, she has a weekend fling with a man, who would be tough to resist, Back in Scotland, Laura discovers she is pregnant. This is not a spoiler, since readers learn about the pregnancy at the beginning of the book. Both Laura and her baby daddy are real estate agents. The complication is that the baby daddy, Noah, is not interested in fatherhood or marriage. But this is a romance, and so not exactly many surprises. But getting to the end was a delightful journey. The scenery is lovely, as is Robert's description of the south of France. It made me want to board a plane and return to a place I just visited last summer.
I do recommend From Provence, With Love. It was an enjoyable read. I did enjoy this novel and wish I hadn't finished it already.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 25, 2025It was nice going back to the south of France and seeing Laura Gilchrist, Ellie's sister. Ellie, Laura and Fiona have inherited an old stone house in Provence called La Maisonette from an uncle they didn't know.
Laura went back to the south of France to help an estate agent, Noah Dufour, sell the stone house. She came back one way, but as she was there, she started changing. She was always in control of everything, and had a difficult time accepting the person she was becoming. The story will take us through Laura's journey of basically being two people and seeing which person wins out. As Noah said to her, don't stop listening to your heart, and let the Laura back out that you buried. I enjoyed reading this story about all that she went through, and all that she had buried come to the surface, You will have to read the book to find out what happens. This is book 2, and her sister Ellie is in the story a lot, and also the donkeys.
I received an ARC from Boldwood Books through NetGalley.

4.0 out of 5 stars A very cozy book
This is book two in the series. While it can be read as a standalone, the first book would be beneficial. From Provence, With Love is a heartwarming and delightful romance that takes readers on a journey through the beautiful settings of Southern France. The people in this novel are well-written, with Alison Roberts being superb at making them seem real and believable. The characters are engaging, all with their own vulnerabilities and emotional issues, which they struggle to overcome as the novel progresses. Their growth is realistic, with subtle changes that mirror their progress toward healing and connection. The supporting characters enhance the story, providing moments of humor and revelation that add depth to the novel overall.
The author's style is both evocative and elegant, creating a detailed picture of the Southern France milieu while transporting readers into the characters' emotional domains. Her text finds a happy medium between beauty of description and clarity of story, making sure that the tale moves well. The dialogue feels natural and enthralling and is frequently mixed with wit and warmth, providing depth to character interactions. My favorite scene is at lavender fields; the food descriptions were so lush that I felt myself inhaling the fragrance of lavender. Although we also have descriptions of food which I appreciated, the setting dominates. At its essence, From Provence, With Love is a tale of love, strength, and the heart to love once more after heartbreak. The novel also uncovers themes of self-discovery, forgiveness, and the magic of kindness and connection. Roberts presents these through the characters on a subtle basis, making the novel resonate to a very emotive extent.
The author uses a variety of literary devices to heighten the storytelling, such as rich imagery, symbolism, and strategically placed moments of reflection. The Provençal landscape is used not just as background but also as metaphor for resurrection and beauty where least expected. The tempo is carefully calibrated, with moments of tension and release that keep readers engaged with the story. The pace of the book is even and compelling, with a logical development that makes readers fully invested in the characters and their process. The organization is sound, with chapters flowing into one another easily and progressing to a good resolution. Roberts' easy writing makes the book pleasant for readers of all tastes, from lovers of contemporary romance to those who appreciate a moving and reflective book.
From Provence, With Love is a well-crafted and emotionally fulfilling novel that conveys the spirit of love and rebirth. Alison Roberts' skill in crafting memorable characters, a rich setting, and an emotional tale makes this book a gem among romance novels. Although some readers might want more sensational plot turns, the strength of the novel lies in its emotional truthfulness and the subtle beauty of its narrative. Although the romance is somewhat insta, there isn't any pretension about it. Additionally, sufficient emotions are incorporated into the scenes to temper the pace somewhat. I'm glad they did this. I would strongly recommend From Provence, With Love to anyone who likes uplifting and character-based romances against stunning backdrops.

5.0 out of 5 stars brilliant
You can almost imagine yourself in all these places being described.
You are living vicariously through the characters in the books.
Each one is a story in itself but the characters are so important ant how they all grow together.
I couldn’t put this book down either.
