5 STARS READERS' FAVORITE BOOK:
"Puppy: 12 Months of Rhymes and Smiles is a dog lover’s delight. Puppy deals with the many reasons people bring a puppy into their lives. Not only does it deal with a puppy’s initial reaction to its new home, but this beautifully illustrated book also looks at the wondrous experiences each new day brings, as the puppy learns new lessons, explores new places and finally grows into his own four paws.
Although I am primarily a cat lover, I could not help but smile at the delightful words which detail each part of a new puppy’s life. From finding its forever home, being named and encountering its first ever snowfall, a puppy’s typical life is clearly laid out for potential dog owners in Puppy: 12 Months of Rhymes and Smiles. Patricia Furstenberg’s obvious love of canines shines through on each page and is truly heartwarming. I could sense my feline companions’ jealous eyes burning through my spine as I ‘ooh’d’ and ‘ahh’d’ with each adorable new chapter.
It is interesting to read about the many things which culminate in a young puppy’s interests as it makes new friends (whether human or some other species), as well as its appreciation for play time, food and sleep. Whether a puppy wants a belly rub, some cuddles or some alone time so that it can sleep, Puppy: 12 Months of Rhymes and Smiles will be sure to bring a long-lasting smile to all dog lovers for many years to come. I very much enjoyed Patricia Furstenberg’s look into the typical first year of a dog’s life, and am looking forward to reading more of her published works in the future."5* Review by Rosie Malezer for Readers' Favorite
"Puppy, 12 Months of Rhymes and Smiles by Patricia Furstenberg is a fun, exciting, adorable, and a must-read children's book. Chapters are divided into months, in the form of puppy paws at the beginning, each a phase in the puppy's life until it turns one. With lots of colours, lots of love, humour, and puppies, children will want to read this book over and over and over. Having lived with dogs her whole life, it's no wonder Patricia Furstenberg would choose a puppy to be centrepiece in this book. I loved how the puppy referred to its human owner/friend as a "human pup".
"My human pup was there And we spent the day together"
Loved the chapter where the puppy learns that it will get a name but has no idea what a name is. It was funny and innocent like children themselves. Grown up or not, Puppy, 12 Months of Rhymes and Smiles is a must-read for children that will teach them love and tenderness towards animals."Review by Nada Adel Sobhi, Poet, Writer, Book Reviewer and Blogger at Nadaness In Motion *****

I really liked the way the book is divided into months for the firstyear of Puppy's life so that I could see a month per bedtime as a story, making it excellent value for money. In each month there's a subtlemoral or principle behind the story so that it might be about theimportance of family at Christmas in December or the fact that startingschool means attending every day and not just once as in the Septembertale, or the challenges of trying new experiences like going to thebeach in July. All these elements means there's something to talk aboutwith young children and afford them the opportunity to consider whatcould be challenging concepts in a safe environment.
Another element that I found really satisfying was the underpinninglove throughout. I felt as emotional as Granny at Christmas! Here wehave a book that exemplifies caring for your family and being together, making it a lovely book to share together.
One thing I would say is that I think Puppy would be fantastic formerchandising. Any child would adore a Puppy cuddly toy (and so wouldthis adult!)."

"Follow the first 12 months of a puppy's life in this heartwarming poem. From the day he's born through to turning one, read about what thisadorable puppy experiences and how he feels about all the fun new things he comes across. Snow, Christmas, a newspaper through the door, jumping in the sea, and being with his new family are just some of thelovely things he comes learns in his first year.
This fun and sweet poem is set out in months - from the moment thepuppy has been born through to his first birthday. We follow the joyshe experiences as he comes across things for the first time. We alsosee the unconditional love he both gives and receives, which isadorable. This is very visible with the relationship he has with thelittle girl in his new family.
Although written for children, a lot of adults will enjoy the poem.If the reader has, or has previously had dogs in their lives they willlaugh along with what this dog gets up to and find themselves thinking'this is true!' I certainly did!
The illustrations are beautiful and cheery, bright and fun. They really complimented the poem. This poem doesn't rhyme. But that's no bad thing. It reads morelike a story and in this case, I think it works better than a rhymewould.
My daughter loved this book. She enjoyed pointing out what washappening in the illustrations and listening to what the puppy got upto.
This is a great book for adults to share with their young ones time and time again. I certainly will."

"Oh my goodness, this was such a sweet and thought-inspiring book for little ones! Puppy covers the twelve months of the year and all of the amazing things that are encountered each month. From getting a name, having visitors, and experiencing the first snow, Patricia Furstenberg has written a fun and educational story about the world from apuppy's eyes.
The imagery and sing-song elements of the story will make this such a fun read-aloud, especially for dog lovers.
You know those books that you read to your children so many times they begin to know the words by heart? I think Puppy will definitely become one of those stories.
Lessons include the months, seasons, colors, love, companionship, cleaning up our messes, responsibilities such as school or work, differences between all of us humans, and much more. The cutest part, however, is Patricia's imagination and interpretation of how our beloved pups may see and understand the world around them. I'm such a huge dog-lover, so Puppy completely tugged at my heartstrings. It also made me look at my own dogs differently, wondering what in the world goes through their minds!
I cannot recommend Puppy enough to readers that want a fun and educational story to read to their children and eventually have those children reading it to them. I could honestly feel the love and attention to detail that Patricia poured into every page, and cannot imagine a child not loving this wonderful story!"

"This was a cute children's book involving a brand new puppy getting his forever home. It's written from the POV of the new puppy. He calls the little girl who cares for him his 'pup', which I found cute and endearing. It also had each month as a "chapter" in the book, and during each month, different things happened with the puppy and his family. It was sweet and fun to read to my two year old son. He liked listening to me reading the story out loud, and he also enjoyed looking at the adorable illustrations in the book. It'll definitely be a story that will appeal to young readers (and parents with kids too young to really start reading yet)."

My mother is the one they would want forpretend games, yet it is my father they prefer for story time. Perhapsbecause grandfathers, with their solid appearance, are nothing butgentle giants when it comes to their own grandchildren and, admit it,nothing can compare with a grandfather's ability to mimic someone else's voice!
I still remember my own grandfather telling my cousin and I a story with Prince Charming which used to pick his nose :)
I hope you will enjoy my books just as much as I loved writing them.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 24, 2021I would like to apologize to Patricia Furstenberg, first and foremost. I received this back in 2017, read and wrote my review in my journal on January 24, 2018, however, that’s when most of my reviews started getting affected by my lack of energy and downward spiral into the biggest slump I’ve ever had. So, again, I would like to apologize to her. I am very sorry that it’s taken me this long to write this review for you.
On to the review!
This was really cute. Very quick read, obviously something to read to a child or with a child, but enjoyable even for adults.
Now, something that had thrown me off was that the title of the book says ’12 months of rhymes…’ so, I was pretty much expecting poems that aimed to rhyme. I had to adjust my thought process on that when I saw there were only a few lines of rhymes because that’s what I was trying to read it as. when I adjusted though, it went very smooth.
I’m giving this a 4 star instead of a 5 because of the rhyming thing, but overall, I did like this little quick read of poems about a puppy’s life in its first year. I would most definitely recommend to parents wanting something cute and quick to read to their toddler.
Now that I know about a puppy’s first year, I feel like a book of poems about an older dog would be a great little sequel to it.
Thank you for reading my review.

Puppies squirm in all the odd places, sniff all the strange objects, lick everything they can and find something to splash into even when we don't want them to!
This book of poems explores the first year of a puppy's life, going through an adventure after the other, one month at a time.
I reviewed Patricia's book Joyful Trouble here a while ago so I was pleased when she emailed me asking if I'd review this book for her.
This book has lovely illustrations aimed to draw in younger children and is written as a poem portraying the first year of a puppy's life.
The book is written in the point of view of the dog as he calls his little girl owner ' his pup'. It details how the puppy deals with everyday things, learning from adventure and exploring.
This book is definitely aimed at younger children and will delight them as an adult reads it out loud to them. However any dog lover will also love this book and will no doubt smile as they do so.
Patricia is destined to become a good children's writer in the future.
I give this book 5 stars as I couldn't help but smile as I read it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A lovely, fun to read book for children and adults to share
Aptly described as ‘12 Months of Rhymes and Smiles’, this lovely little book will certainly bring smiles to the faces of its young readers. The rhymes are delightful, taking us through each month during the first year of a puppy’s life, starting with his birth in April.
Everything is new to the mischievous young pup, from getting a new name to meeting new family members, diving into the tumbling waves of the sea or playing in the snow. His antics as he questions and investigates are a delight – and sometimes get him into trouble with Mom and Dad. But through it all, the puppy learns that he is dearly loved and, in return, he adores his new family – especially the little girl he calls ‘my human pup’. He also decides that his role in the family is as their protector.
The rhymes are perfect for reading aloud to children, worded to ensure each scene is easy to imagine and illustrated with colourful and cute images that both children and adults will love.
Overall, Puppy is a lovely book, and a great educational resource for teaching young children about love and family values as well as a respect for animals.
