Random Acts of Trust: Second Chance Romantic Comedy: Random Series, Book 2
Audible Audiobook
– Unabridged
I swear I am not the kind of person who gets her cell phone caught in places that require an ER trip and an OBGYN.
But apparently, I am.
I’m also not the kind of person who spends all her time thinking about the guy who got away.
But apparently, I am, too.
Starting a new life in Boston isn’t supposed to include repeatedly embarrassing myself in public, meeting a crazy blond woman who has ties to the band Random Acts of Crazy, and definitely isn’t supposed to include wallowing in a past I thought I’d left behind four years ago.
But apparently, it does.
And the drummer for the band, Sam Hinton, is the boy I loved in high school and who disappeared with my heart. Now he’s back, better than ever.
Second chances aren’t supposed to make scars disappear and hearts mend.
But apparently, they can.
If you trust enough.
* * *
Fate took their lives by storm four years ago and put an unbreachable gulf between Sam and Amy. Can time really heal all wounds...or are some scars too deep?
The second book in the Random series (after New York Times and USA Today best seller Random Acts of Crazy), Random Acts of Trust is a romantic comedy that explores the love between one man and one woman and ends with one happily ever after (and no cliff-hangers or chickens!).
And you’ll never look at a cell phone the same way again.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 21, 2014Just found Julia Kent via a Book Bub deal recommendation, and man-oh-MAN am I thrilled! I will be gobbling up her other books ASAP. While this book is the second in a series, it stands very much alone and was a delightful read- I didn't want to put it down. The points of view flip between Library Science graduate student Amy and couch-surfing drummer Sam - 4 1/2 years after their mutual unrequited high school crushes on one another went very very wrong. Little bits of what happened to cause Sam to disappear just before Prom Night, their mutual messed-up parental situations and other complications that kept them apart are revealed as each chapter unfolds. Kept me intrigued rather than frustrated as some romances do with the "dark secret" story device. Humorous, sexually bold with a strongly sexual female protagonist in Amy, very intelligent vocabulary throughout. You won't want to miss the laugh-out-loud antics involving Amy and...a phone app gone wrong. On top of that, the drama was just right - just enough past and present trauma to keep the story fresh, tense yet fun at the same time. Loved all of the strong secondary characters as well, particularly Darla, Liam & Joe. So sucked into their world, gonna have to read the whole series!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 6, 2013I waited on this book till after midnight and when I could not find it on Amazon, I went to bed depressed. Finally I pulled up RAOC and started re-reading it, and then speeded through It's Complicated....settling for a refresher of course. Julia's books are kept in my favorite folder and always worth a 2nd, 3rd, or more read.
This book features another band member Sam, and the girl that got away, Amy. The story is an incredible love story that goes back four years with both always wanting to know what happen to the other, but neither forgetting the other. The story covers the imperfection that goes on inside the home, that so many of us don't know about, or ever want to talk about. Life is not perfect and neither are familes and this one will rip your heart out. In spite of their families, these two are able to see reality and make choices that make them both better people. It made me think about the time my grandmother and I went to visit one of her friends at a nursing home and the lady that roomed with my grandmothers friend never had visitiors. I remember saying how sad it was that none of her family cared enough to come and visit her. My grandmother said that all you see now is a fraile old lady honey, but she was not always that way.....Sometimes," you reap what you sow." hummmm
Anywho.....You will love this book, you will love hearing more from Trevor, Joe, and Darla and more about Liam. I cannot wait to hear Laim's story and Lawd find out about Joe. How can he leave Darla, Trevor, and Joe? I want more....How is the business doing? A match making service for menage, woo hoo....After reading this book, I will never look at my cell phone and not smile. Outstanding job Ms. Kent....and I look forward to more.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 13, 2014I am a huge fan of this authors and read everything that she puts out. When I got this book I wanted to devour it immediately but had to wait to finish another book. I was glad I waited so that I could give this book all of my attention because oh wow is it good. This book is about Sam the drummer and Amy the girl all the guys knew in high school. Amy happens to see a poster of the band's gig for the following night and goes just to see them not really to speak with them but just get a look at them after all this time. Sam thinks he sees Amy but thinks he must be seeing things. To Sam Amy is the one that got away all those years ago and he is not willing to blow his second chance. Amy thinks that there is no way that Sam wants anything to do with her and is surprised by the initial greeting she receives. There are many forces that try and stand in the way of this couple getting together but sometimes their worst enemies are themselves. This is a great book that will make you laugh make you cry and make you cry out for more of these guys. I would recommend this book to anyone.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 30, 2014It could have been awesome, but Ms Kent wrote many scenes twice, just from a different perspective each time. It really slowed down the reading and impeded the progression of the plot.
The story was there. The characters were great. The writing was sublime. But the execution was exhausting to read.
I'll read more from her and in this series in hopes that Ms Kent will grow in her craft and tighten up her work. The ability is more than there, she just might need an editor who is more strict with her.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 29, 2019This was an emotional roller-coaster. It’s funny and heart-rending and everything else in between. There’s not much I love more than to see a much deserved second chance come to be. Amy and Sam are a couple who badly needed another shot to get it right. Theirs is a story about truth, how it’s created, how it’s re-created, and the family dysfunctions it can hide. It also shows us the miracles that can be accomplished by speaking our truth. This book has lots of side-splittingly funny moments that help lighten up the darkly poignant ones. There are several one-liners in this story that I will be cherishing for as long as I can remember them. (So… for about the next forty minutes or so…) I can’t wait to read more Random.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 9, 2015Sam and Amy's story is a really, really good one ....plus there's a part a little over half way through the book with Amy and her phone and Darla coming to her rescue ,and Amy's phone being somewhere it never should have been ;) I laughed til I hurt ;) that part was almost worth the cost of the book for that part alone...it was great to see Joe ( though he was a bit of a jerk at times) and Darla and Trevor .... And while it was Great to see more of the 3 of them,I wish we could have cut away to them at times and had some pov's from them, especially with Joe moving out and bring a bit of a dick about it... Reminding you of how he was when we 1st met him int the last book... Not good... I hope we get more insight in the next book...
I had a great time! Thanks Ms. Kent ;)

5.0 out of 5 stars Even better than the first
Loved the first book so bought this one, and so glad I did. A seemingly minor event on the past has haunted both Sam and Amy ever since but as the consequences are revealed, it becomes darker and darker. Secrets, lies and the hypocrisy of middle class America are explored further in this 2nd instalment.....and the sex is even hotter!!! Beautifully written, pantie wetting, breath taking sex scenes lighten the story along with some comic genius. If you thought Mavis the chicken was funny, wait til you read about the iPhone incident

4.0 out of 5 stars Roller coaster of feelings
What it’s like to have really screwed up parents?
Sam and Amy can tell you.
That’s the thing they have in common.
All of the lying to keep up appearances is what started the huge blowup after the debate.
This story has a pretty heavy tone, but also has a really funny part. Even though it ends in the ER, still very funny!
It’s confronting because I cannot help compare what happened in my own life.
So the book is good but a bit like a roller coaster of feelings. If you love books that do that to you? Read this!

2.0 out of 5 stars Well...
I really liked "Random Acts of Crazy" and was looking forward to this new book in the series. But unfortunately it was quite disappointing. The heroine Amy is not half as interesting as Darla from the first book. Her motives for acting the way she does don't become clear to me. Half of the book tries to explain though, why she and Sam (the drummer of the band "Random Acts of Crazy") split up about four years ago.
Darla, Trevor and Joe from the first book are mentioned in this new book, but their story is not really developed further. Trevor - whom I really liked in book 1 - is reduced to a stooge. No personality development at all! And wonderful Darla is absolutely annoying in the first half of the book (she becomes nicer and more likeable eventually). Joes backgroundstory is developed a little bit further, but it didn't really interest me so much.
I hope that Liam story (the next book in the series) is able to fascinate me more. The teaser at the end of the book is promising.

5.0 out of 5 stars Raw truths, fantastically humorous, beyond 5 stars
What a novel! Julia Kent can spin a story that's so intriguing and hilarious, it keeps you begging for at least thousand more words after the last chapter. Amy and Sam's story will leave rocks in your belly one moment and make you feel like you're flying the next moment. Julia hits home about how our childhood's can have such an iron grasp on our future, whether it's good or bad. But in saying that, the incorporation of humour isn't lost on the reader - what would life be without twists and turns that lead us to some of the most bizarre moments in life. Well all have challenges to face on our own paths, maybe not quite like Sam's or Amy's, but the writing is relatable. Keep up the fantastic writing, and I'll definitely keep up the fantastic reading! Will be boasting to my book buddies to begin this series!

4.0 out of 5 stars Cute Story
I really liked the story line behind this book and I loved the new characters and that the characters from Random Acts of Crazy were incorporated as well.
I found this book to be a bit of a slow read though. When I read books like this the best parts for me are the interactions between the two main characters. Given that the story is supposed to be based on Sam and Amy I looked forward to the parts with them being together but I found that there really wasn't as much of that as there should have been. There would sometimes be page after page after page of no one interacting. It felt like it dragged on a bit telling more about their issues with their families then focusing on the relationship between the two of them.
I would have rated this probably 3 stars due to that but there was one chapter that I had tears streaming down my face from laughing so hard, I actually had to stop and take breaks to control myself because it was THAT funny. This bumped it up to 4 stars. You don't get a lot of books with that comedy factor in it and both the random acts had that which is why they are unique. I will probably read the next in the series just because I like that about these books but I do hope the next has more invovlement with the characters rather then just back stories of them.
