Smolder Kindle Edition
Skyler Ashe, a mild-mannered band teacher, hates the spotlight. His father is the drummer and lead singer for From the Ashes, a hard-partying eighties hair band on the brink of a comeback—until Skyler’s father has a cardiac event during a scandalous liaison. Enter Skyler, who gets guilted into picking up the sticks until his father is up to performing again.
Sanders “Sandy” Kensington, former defensive tackle for the Chicago Breeze, doesn’t have much going on since being pressured to retire from football. His little brother is the manager of a washed-up late-eighties’ hair band, and when one of their gold records is solicited for use in an action-movie blockbuster, Sandy gets goaded into helping his brother keep the band members out of trouble.
After a series of unlucky events, it’s clear to Sandy someone is trying to keep From the Ashes off the stage. Sandy vows to protect Skyler and the band while struggling with his attraction to the young drummer.
Will Skyler’s kindness and innocence hurt the band’s rock star image, or will Sandy introduce Skyler to the ways of the world? Will the looks that Smolder between them go unnoticed, or will they become the stars of the show?

- Reviewed in the United States on November 6, 2024ROAD TO ROCKTOBERFEST 2024 is such a REMARKABLE SERIES!!! SAM E KRAEMER wrote a FANTASTIC tribute about the old stepping back to let the next generation shine. Talk about transition. Skylar is the son of an 80's hair band drummer. Sandy is a disgraced Football star trying to find his place in life. Meeting Skylar became his new focus. He refused to let Skylar be used by outside influence. When everything goes side ways he cannot let Skylar stand alone. This is a MAGNIFICENTLY written story about family dynamics. Finding Love for the first time, Learning to get to know your family, Learning to stand up for yourself. I LOVED THIS!! Road To Rocktoberfest is a great series with a FANTASTIC combination of Award Winning Authors pulling together with standalone Books. Pick your favorite Authors or do yourself a favor and get them all. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK AND THIS ROAD TO ROCKTOBERFEST 2024 SERIES!!!!!!!!!!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 16, 2024Smolder was a neat story about a shy, talented band teacher whose rock and roll dad has a health crisis and pushes him to fill in on drums for the band. Skyler does not want to be in the spotlight but he is such a good guy he pitches in. That is how he meets Sandy, a former athlete whose brother manages the band and needs his help protecting them from some trouble brewing. Skyler and Sandy are attracted to one another and as they spend time together that attraction grows. These two are very different men, with Skyler being on the innocent side and Sandy having a lot more experience. I have to say in the end I liked how things worked out for them. It was a testament to the power of love.
I received an ARC from GRR and am voluntarily leaving a review.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 20, 2024I particularly enjoyed getting to see both the new, young band and the older band trying to make a comeback in this story. The younger musicians got a look at one possible future for themselves and the older band got to look back and think about some "what ifs". The romance was nicely handled and fit well with the music part of the story. I'm always up for a bit of suspense in any story and this one added an enjoyable bit of spark in the middle without becoming a distraction.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 4, 2024Really enjoyed this Rocktoberfest story! And (spoiler alert) I absolutely loved that Skylar stayed a teacher and Sandy, the bigtime former NFL player became the high school coach. It warmed my heart that the "little guy" won. Sky stayed true to his heart, not giving in to his rockstar dad. And I was glad his dad mostly got his head out of his butt and acknowledged what treasures his sons were. Oh, and the appearance of Smokey, Dallas, Rafael, Parker from the Lonely Heroes series? Yeah, that was a great surprise. Thoroughly enjoyed reading this book!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 19, 2024This was entertaining and interesting to read. Skyler and Sandy had me hooked on their story right from the start.
I received an ARC and this is my unbiased opinion
- Reviewed in the United States on November 22, 2024This was a great addition to this really amazing series, I loved the characters and storyline. Skylar and Sandy were adorable and I enjoyed watching their relationship grow.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 18, 2024This story was good, but not great. I have read a few Kraemer books in the past, and I enjoyed them immensely. I was a little disappointed in this one, since while it was well-written, there was nothing new. In addition, there was very little spice or even much romance.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 17, 2024This was a very engaging book, hard to put down. I was easily drawn into the world of the music teacher son of a rockstar pulled in to bring an iconic rock song from the 80s into the twenty-first century. Skylar has a contentious relationship with his rockstar father Regal, not pleased with what he has been asked to do, but bowing to family pressure. As he works on the music, he ends up staying with Sandy, a former football player, with a large house and a great space for writing and practicing. As Skyler does rewrites of the song “Bury Me”, he works with his half brother and other young men related to the original band members of From the Ashes to make the changes. Eventually, the young men form a band called Accidental Fire, and begin to play on their own, beginning at a free concert venue in the mountains, a performance that leads them to an invitation to Rocktoberfest. Meanwhile, there is lots of drama between the two bands and about the song Skyler has rewritten, all while Skylar and Sandy start a relationship of their own. The plot is complex with lots of different threads coming together around the interaction of the two bands and the legendary song, threats are made against Skylar, tensions between family, and a new found family for the young band members. Skylar and Sandy are strong advocates for the new band as behind the scenes actions could threaten what they have formed. Eventually, there is a HEA for Skylar and Sandy, and satisfactory conclusions for both bands and side characters.
Really great cast of characters, and behind the scenes actions with an established as well as new band on the horizon that seemed very realistic to me. There is a lot that goes on behind the scenes to create the iconic bands, things that I would guess most fans would never think about, so it was interesting from that standpoint. An entertaining book that held my interest, brought smiles in many places, and the beautiful lyrics to two songs that I put my own music to in my head. Great addition to the Rocktoberfest 2024 series.
I received an advance reader copy of the book and this is my voluntary review.

5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn’t put it down
This book was fantastic. It was so good that I read it in a day, couldn’t put it down. Skylar loves his family even though his father, an aging famous musician basically abandoned him. He is coerced into going home after a medical incident but is really to help a financially. He meets Sandy, an ex football player who got outed and lost his job. Whilst trying help his family Skylar feels an attraction to Sandy. Accidental Fire forms and everything finalises at Rocktoberfest. Can’t wait for more stories in this series
