Raven Crosses the Line: Raven Tales Book Four (The Raven Tales 4) Kindle Edition
If you’ve been looking for me in Detroit—real Detroit—and found me missing, well, it’s because I’ve been elsewhere. Really elsewhere. My name is Bram Farrell, also answering “Yo” to The Raven, and I’m a PI. One that uses magic when necessary to bring down miscreants. Ones just passing for human but sometimes humans who have made really bad choices.
I used to be totally fictional, but I’d been out of the book for five months and earning points toward becoming fully human. Of course, I needed to live long enough to snag that prize.
It’s why I mounted a Hell-spat horse, the only way to get into my homeland again. My evil witch creator had slipped into Faerie and the only way I could follow and spoil her plans was through a smuggler’s hole in my original dimension—fictionland.

About the author

J.B. Dane loves writing snarky sleuth heroes. Her regular "crew" includes Bram Farrell (The Raven), Nick Claus, Rip Patterson, and a lot of dragons.
She came to fantasy mystery late, running up a tally of over 30 romance titles as Beth Henderson. Oddly enough, she began reading urban fantasy as a "palate cleanser", thinking she'd never write in the genre. Her muse thought differently and introduced her to a guy she'd first thought up in the late 1980s before she was published. Bram Farrell was still sitting patiently in the waiting room for his turn to become a hero in what would also turn out to be Dane's first series. She's very glad the outdated magazines didn't chase him away.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 27, 2024Book 4 is as the preceding books are a great read. Lots of action. Lots of snark. Lots of fun. You'll love it as much as the others!
- Reviewed in the United States on October 6, 2023Forced to return to his fictional homeland, Bram crosses over to stop his creator’s wicked plans. Will he succeed and return to his real life, or will he be stuck as a character in a book forever? Raven Crosses the Line is a rip-roaring adventure from start to finish. The plot is imaginative while the dialogue and characters are snarky hilarity. The world-building is immense and original. I couldn’t stop reading until the very end.
Let’s start with the characters. It all starts and ends with Bram. I’ve followed his adventures throughout the series and with each book, Bram sinks his teeth into my soul. He’s a snarky, irreverent hero who’s a fictional character come to life. In this book, the line blurs and the reader is left to determine if Bram is morally gray. I connected with Bram, which in hindsight seems impossible yet in reality is 100% true. He risks it all…but I won’t tell you if it pays off. You’ll have to read it for yourself.
The world-building is once again impressive. J.B. Dane takes on paranormal mythology and gives it her own spin. Sure, some things stay true to lore, yet others are new. The world-building is rooted in reality so it’s very believable. It also makes the reader unable to put this book down.
The dialogue (both Bram’s inner and outer) makes for an entertaining read. The author writes whip-smart, laugh-til-your-sides-ache dialogue and I whipped through the pages.
The narration is very immersive with each scene detailed with precision. The narration allows the reader to visualize what’s going on and plunge into the story.
Another brilliant installment in the Bram/Raven series. I wait with bated breath for what will happen next.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 14, 2023I have read several books by J.B. Dane and have enjoyed each one immensely. Raven Cross the Line is no exception. A creative and action-packed addition to the series, this book had me hooked from the opening. Bram is a great character—funny and badass and so delightful. The paranormal aspects and world building were conveyed so vividly as to make it seem realistic. Filled with snappy dialogue and adventure with twists and turns, Raven Crosses the Line is a must read.
