Beloved: An Enemies-to-Lovers Small-town Romance (Carmel Cove Book 5) Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 778 ratings

From bestselling author Dr. Rebecca Sharp comes an enemies-to-lovers romance with a dash of suspense...

A year ago, Gwen Reynolds loaned her car to the beautiful, bloodied man in her emergency room. No name. No questions. No expectation she’d see him again.

Until he shows up in the hallway of her building… moving into the apartment next door.

Chevy McIntyre is in town for one reason only: to find the men responsible for his fiancée’s death. He’s not looking for friends, and he doesn’t need help. Especially from the neighboring angel whose bright smile has haunted his dreams for months. But his solitude doesn’t sit well with Gwen’s larger-than-life personality.

As Carmel’s most beloved nurse, Gwen will do anything to help anyone—including the handsome recluse. So, she refuses to back down until she’s helped solve the case and healed his damaged heart.

Though there’s an undeniable spark between them, Chevy tries to fight its pull because desire has always had the power to destroy. And when the investigation takes an unexpected turn, he’ll have to choose between risking his only shot at justice or losing his only chance at love.

Rebecca Sharp always loved a good love story. Let's face it, when you include a romance novel on your 8th grade summer reading list just to see if the teacher would notice (she didn't!), she was bound to give writing one of her own a go. There's really no corner of romance that she doesn't (or wouldn't) enjoy writing, except maybe aliens, much to her husband's dismay, so her large catalog features a little something for everyone. However, her love of shows like NCIS and Criminal Minds makes her favorite stories to write the ones with some kind of suspense and crime solving.

When she's not writing, she's at her office treating patients, and somewhere between those two things, you'll find her wandering the globe with her husband always searching for their next adventure.

What a way to wrap up the series!
Each of the books in the Carmel Cove Series can be read as a standalone but I have to worn you once you fall in love with this small town and it's inhabitants you will want to read each of their books. BELOVED is Gwen Reynolds and Chevy McIntyre's book and it starts off with a gut punch, Nurse Gwen is helping with a patient that is barely holding on after a car accident when she informs the patients husband, that she is being Airlifted to a larger hospital that is better equipped to handle her injuries. Knowing that the man's car was just totaled in the accident she gives him the keys to her own car and sends him on his way. This opening prologue was significant in ways you will only find out about later in the book, but you could feel the attraction that Gwen was feeling towards this man right away. Fast forward eighteen months and the mystery man at the hospital is now Gwen's neighbor....say what!?! Oh and it gets so much better. We find out all sorts of secrets that have been kept and since there has been an underlying thread going through each of the books it is fully developed and unearthed in this final book. I had been waiting for Gwen's story since I met her in REVOLUTION last summer and I couldn't be happier with the way her story turned out. Gwen is the sweet, loving, always putting other people first, Nurse that we have gotten to know a little better since she cared for Jules in BESPOKEN, and, Chevy is the perfect growly gladiator for her. This book is perfect for those that enjoy Steamy Romantic Suspense Novels. If you have read any of the books in this series you'll want to read this one as well, and if you haven't started the series yet...I highly recommend that you do! Happy Reading!!!

We meet Gwen, a nurse at a hospital in Carmel Cove. She’s called to the ER due to a horrific accident on the highway. The ambulance arrived and the fiancé jumped out, all battered and bruised. His fiancée is rushed into surgery where doctors tried to help but her case was too complicated so she was medivaced to San Francisco. Gwen lends him her car in hopes he’ll get there in time.

Chevy and Gwen are the cutest, loving couple. I absolutely loved this book. I can’t wait for the Covington brothers as well as Gwen’s brothers. What an amazing way to wrap up an amazing series

If you want an enthralling enemy to lover story with some spicy sex, this is your book. Some words describing body parts were crude and the reason for the four star rating. But, "Beloved" is also a tender romance with likable characters and page a page-turning storyline. The manly men and strong women in this book don't disappoint.

Such a great story. As an RN I totally identify with Gwen and all that she has been through especially after the pandemic. But sometimes she was just too much. That was probably the only thing that got to me at times. But it was crucial to the plot point and movement of the story. She had a compulsion almost to help everyone even to the detriment of herself. And honestly so did Chevy. They put everyone ahead of themselves. I liked watching their back and forth when she kept pushing her way into his life but it also annoyed me a little. Some people do need an extra push for help but she didn’t know him and really going to the extremes she did to work her way into his life was excessive. For example breaking into his apartment, no matter how many times she says she used a key. She entered his premises without permission. Not that he didn’t return that favor later but still. When they finally came together it was amazing. Chevy is so dominating and all alpha that it made for very steamy scenes. So much drama, suspense, angst and craziness attached to this town and it’s people. Loved the ending. So adorable.

Visiting Carmel Cove is always a pleasure for me as each couple finds their passion in life and love that includes this amazing community. The journey for Gwen and Chevy doesn’t disappoint. Gwen is the giver and fixer for everyone which is a passion for her. But at the same time, she struggles to let other people help her. Chevy doesn’t believe he deserves to be loved but the one thing he can do is destroy the drug cartels that have taken the ones he loved from his life. This duo has an amazing first meeting that is electric but neither one expects to see the other ever again. When Chevy is suddenly Gwen’s new neighbor, well, Chevy learns being neighborly is a way of life for Gwen. It was a joy to experience all the crazy moments as Gwen needs to be friendly and helpful while Chevy wants solitude as he works his latest case. But when his case involves the hospital where Gwen works, well, she can’t help but assist. I truly enjoyed how these two connected and the struggles along the way as the navigated the road to a relationship. Both of them have issues that they have been avoiding which they have to confront to allow them to have a happily ever after. Such an incredible journey.

Who protects the protector from himself? Who keeps a selfless nurse from going to far? Chevy returns to the location where his wife/fiancee lost her life in a drug related crash. He ends up renting an apartment from the nurse who gave him her car so he could follow the ambulance to a more advanced medical facility. Can he overcome his losses in his life to give his attraction to Gwen a chance? Another riveting story in building the fabric of Carmel Cove.

I knew going into the final book in the Carmel Cove series that I was gonna love Gwen.

We’ve met her throughout the series to date and we’ve discovered how good a person she is but we hadn’t really found out just how much of herself she gave up for her work and friends.

Her initial meeting with Chevy was understandably tense and intense given the circumstances of his appearance in the hospital she works in. These fleeting interactions had more of an impact on both of them than either would have expected, especially when they didn’t think they’d run into each other again.

Gwen has the biggest heart and is really selfless but I was glad she eventually decided to think more about herself and her own future….. until she didn’t…. and while I got the reason behind her decision it vexed me that she felt herself so dispensable! Her determination to get Chevy to talk to her made for some entertaining moments.

Chevy, the gods, this guy carried so much baggage and guilt around it was a surprise he could think straight… at first I was peeved that he was being such an ass to Gwen but when we got where his head was at it was kinda understandable… but then he got caught up again in his fight for justice and couple of things he did made me want to slap him - thankfully Gwen was more patient with him that me!!!

It’’s sad that Rebecca has wrapped up things in Carmel Cove - I’ve loved this series and all the character we’ve been introduce to but I’m betting that we’ll come across them in future spinoff/crossover books.
