The Lightkeeper: A Small-Town, Grumpy-Sunshine Romance (The Kinkades) Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 1,300 ratings

Aurora Cross just got the educational opportunity of a lifetime—to complete her coastal biology thesis at one of Maine’s most iconic lighthouses. She didn’t realize the toughest, most reclusive creature inhabiting the keep was a broody artist with more secrets than the sea.

Kit Kinkade has had enough of the world. He returned from war and even with the support of his family, found no shelter from his demons. So, he relegated himself to the most secluded spot in town—stranded by the sea as the newest lightkeeper of the Friendship lighthouse.

Left alone with his paints and his purpose, Kit was perfectly happy to withdraw from the world until he stumbles over the bright-eyed, beautiful woman invading his solitude for the next three months.

However, if Aurora is good at one thing, it’s learning. She’s good at observing and studying, noting the smallest changes and the slightest shifts that can cause marine life—and grumpy men—to evolve.

When one kiss brings Kit out of his darkness and into her world, Aurora will do everything she can to show him there’s a place for him there… and in her heart.

Rebecca Sharp always loved a good love story. Let's face it, when you include a romance novel on your 8th grade summer reading list just to see if the teacher would notice (she didn't!), she was bound to give writing one of her own a go. There's really no corner of romance that she doesn't (or wouldn't) enjoy writing, except maybe aliens, much to her husband's dismay, so her large catalog features a little something for everyone. However, her love of shows like NCIS and Criminal Minds makes her favorite stories to write the ones with some kind of suspense and crime solving.

When she's not writing, she's at her office treating patients, and somewhere between those two things, you'll find her wandering the globe with her husband always searching for their next adventure.

This book will have you feeling so many ways. The beauty of the darkness finding its dawn. So many emotions and feelings, Kit feels them all. So deeply, so completely, I cried. I laughed. I loved this book. An absolutely beautiful piece. It shows the brokenness of a human fighting his demons, and the beauty of him finally allowing himself to heal. In her arms, in her love. Aurora was exactly what he needed, and he was what she was always missing. Absolutely beautiful.

Having read The Woodsman I knew going in this would be an emotional book but the depth of Kit’s hurt was not something I was prepared for. This book was emotional, but it was also hopeful. Kit had to learn to live again and that did not come easily.

I love a good quirky heroine and Aurora was just that. It was that quirkiness that initially broke through Kit’s barriers with her spewing facts about the sea creatures she was researching. I loved the way she quietly burrowed her way into Kit’s life. She used her gift of observation to find ways to help Kit and it really worked for the plot. She was patient and kind. She never showed pity or disgust, which is what Kit expected. And she fought hard for Kit.

Kit was a very broken main character. He had spent a decade pushing people away, but his usual tactics just didn’t work on Aurora. I loved his character arc and healing journey. Aurora was the perfect person to break through his shell and get him to start living again.

As much as I love Rebecca Sharp’s romantic suspense books, she definitely did this one justice. It was well written and emotional. It had humor to lighten the mood. And it had a very loving family at its core. The Kinkade’s are the type of family everyone wants to be a part of. They were loving and understanding and always there for one another. I can’t wait for Frankie to get a little taste of her own matchmaking medicine next!

Kits story is full of emotions, where you find out his back story. He meets Aurora and you can't help falling in love with her also. She spends a lot of time observing life, which helps her to get her man. The family is still full of fun. The author sets up the next stories in the series, with her hints dropped here and there, without distracting from the story you are reading.

So far this is my favorite in this series. Kit and Aurora's story was so very good. Kit who struggles with his past and so much more will grab at your heart. He loves his family but struggles and lives in the Lighthouse. Aurora Cross, a Researcher invades his peace and comes into his life like the storms he paints. The love and loyalty of his family is amazing and the author makes you feel. You will have moments of laughter and of tears. There are maybe about a handful of books I have read that have made me cry, The Light keeper did that too me. It just strangled my heart. There are also hot passionate scenes between these two that make the pages sizzle.

My title pretty much sums this book up. A small town romance with plenty of spice yet heartwarming.

Aurora is our masters student in biology while Kit is the reclusive lighthouse keeper. The trauma Kit endured and the PTSD he suffers is so heart breaking but his recovery with Aurora's help is inspiring. I love that he admits she didn't "fix him". No, she, like a lighthouse, guided him, showed him light but it was up to him to navigate the storm and fight.

Overall, quick read with a captivating story and plenty of steamy scenes.

Not sure where to start,so beautiful written, yet sad! You have a man who almost died twice who is dead inside his mind, who can't be around anyone except family and even that at times. You have a young woman who is like a beam of light,a bit of sunshine invade his privacy to do experiments on sea life but she slowly opens his eyes and he sees her has light, sunshine .Aurora is that sunshine and Kit slowly opens up to her about how he got the scar on his head,She also gets him to open more and soon they are experimenting each other and he opens up more to her and tells her more of his story. They are in a good spot in their lives but Aurora is call home because her father's health issues and Kit let's her go,saying he can't face Boston never again.Aurora is hurt, she thought she met more to him.One of Kit's sisters come to Boston to talk to her and to see if she read the note she slip in the box, which she didn't and when she did,she decides it's time for her to back to Kit.Well this story gets a very happy ending,Kit finds his light and sunshine in Aurora and realized it time to face the world again!
