(Music Sales America). When teenager and amateur photographer Marc Canter set out to document his best friend Saul Hudson's rise as a rock guitarist in 1982, he never imagined he was documenting the genesis of the next great rock 'n' roll band. His friend became the legendary guitarist Slash, and Canter found himself witnessing the creation of Guns N' Roses front and center. The candid shots contained in Reckless Road , taken as the band toured in 1985-1987 and made the legendary album Appetite for Destruction , capture their raw, blood-sweat-and-tears performances as well as their intimate moments. Containing original gig memorabilia including show flyers, ticket stubs, set lists, press clippings, and handwritten lyrics as well as in-depth interviews with band members and the people closest to them, Reckless Road offers an explicit, first-person perspective readers won't find anywhere else. This book covers the first 50 gigs that Guns N Roses did. with 1000 plus unseen photos. Interviews with over 20 people including band members, roadies strippers, girlfriends, Tom Zutaut the A&R guy that signed the band, Mike Clink the guy who produced the record, Steve Thompson & Mike Barbiero the guys that mixed the record, and close friends of the band. The book is well designed and is a must for any GNR fan. This book covers 10 of the 12 songs off Appetite for Destruction the first time they were played!

Marc Canter grew up with Slash and started documenting him in 1982. Marc is a family member of one of the most famous delis in the world, Canter’s Deli. Canter’s has been a landmark in Los Angeles since 1931 with lots of Rock’ Roll history. Marc took photos from the first gigs and was an official photographer for Guns N’ Roses in 1985/1986 where he documented their first fifty gigs. Marc helped support the band with fliers, ads, demos, equipment, food and friendship. Marc’s photos appear in the album artwork of “Appetite for Destruction” and Guns N’ Roses “Live Era 87-93”, Marc has many photos in Slash’s, Duff Mckagan’s and Steven Adler’s book and Marc put out his own book in 2007 “Reckless Road” Guns N’ Roses and The Making of Appetite For Destruction. Independent Publisher Award winner for “pop Culture book 2008”. Marc’s photos have also been on MTV,VH1, and in many Magazines around the world including Rolling Stone.

“Marc’s my best friend; and one of the only good friends that is consistent in my life. There isn’t a better person to actually release any material having to do with the coming together and history of Gun’s N’ Roses, Where it went and what was going on behind the scenes.”

SLASH

“When Gun’s N’ Roses formed, Marc became like the sixth guy in the band. He believed in us from the beginning and had a much broader view of what the band was about than even we had. He documented the whole thing tirelessly.”

DUFF MCKAGAN

“Marc Canter – without you?” From the “Appetite for Destruction” credits

An absolutely fantastic collector’s dream book if you are a Guns N Roses fan! Jammed full of pictures with stories about each photo taken, when, where and who . This writer needs to do another book with Not In Your Lifetime Tour pictures and updates on the guys.

This book certainly was more than I expected. Great collection of old Guns'N'Roses pictures, plenty of information regarding the recording of my favorite rock album of all time, interviews and opinions from "key factor" persons in that process. It helps you understand the state of mind and the situations that defined that raw power and the aggressiveness of the album.Although Use Your Illusion albums are great pieces of music they lack that element of "street gang style" of the AFD album! And the state of the band in each period is explanatory. The only negative is the fact that the internet site that should give you access to all the relative concert clips is no longer active and all the dialogues from each concert make no sense alone!

I remember when Guns hit the scene and everything changed. I was looking for a type of music that matched my emotions and lifestyle. My groups of people rode motorcycles, partied 24 hours a day, and loved chaos. Guns was perfect music for that time in our lives. We hated glam rock. We loved bands like AC/DC and after we saw Guns open for Aerosmith in 1988 we adopted the band as our music for our time give young and reckless. Some of us are still alive and free and still love the band. I had some of the craziest times of my life with songs like Nighttrain in the background. It was the last of the good old rock n roll party til you die fun to be had in the United States. I am very fortunate to have lived during a time when a person could be reckless and free. Guns and Roses were a perfect band for a reckless time.

It was difficult choosing a star rating for this, on one hand I'm glad this book exists and I ate it up like there's no tomorrow, but on the other hand I felt it was too short for the price of $8.49. It should have been no more than $5. One thing that was annoying was watching the little video clip at the beginning of a chapter, and then reading text that was repeated from what was said in the video - the content of the video clips should have been separate instead of redundant material. Yeah, it's cool to see the people say things, but I don't need to then read the same lines again in text form..

This book needs to be at least 3 times as long as it is. I was hoping for more in depth stories about the recording sessions, how they chose the album artwork, how they chose some of the effects on the guitars which weren't in the live shows, the synth part on Paradise City, etc.. While there were a few snippets of stuff like that, I felt there weren't nearly enough. I feel like this book is sort of brief synopses of the making of Appetite rather than the full story.

I love Appetite and early G&R so I thank Canter for putting this out there, but he could have done more, or maybe make this book cheaper and part of a series...

Love this book but I’m also a huge Gnr fan. The only thing I wish was different was the cover. It would have made more sense to have a hard cover

Internet is full of people that don't know anything and yet dare to write a "memoir" of something they didn't witness or care to investigate.
This book is the total opposite.
The author, was there, Live there, experienced everything.
I won't detail on the pictures, they will leave you speechless, mention your favorite band, all of us wish our chosen band had a book at least as half as good as this one.
The photos, are the sort of, raw but clear, all detail giving images that we fans of crude, rude music rave for.
It's also important to notice that is printed on high quality paper.
Thanks for documenting all of this priceless moments.

Marc has just done a great job. Loved the way it was put together with the setlists, comments, backstory on the making of the greatest rock album of all time, Appetite For Destruction. I just loved seeing all his personal scrapbook items: ticket stubs, posters, flyers, etc. Of course, you buy it for the photos! They are amazing as Marc was front and center, backstage, offstage and he takes awesome photos yet humbly calls himself an amateur photographer. The grammar and spelling might not be perfect, but the photos are. I've read all the member's books and this is great to put the photos with the detailed stories they tell about each particular gig-the little notes of what went on and dialogue onstage that Marc actually recorded (part of the enhanced features). Loved the sexy info and photos. Like that Michelle Young contributed, how cool, "My Michelle" is one of my favorites. I was a little worried that since Marc was Slash's best friend, there might not be enough Axl in the book. Don't worry, there is plenty of Axl in some of his best outfits from the club days. Buy it already!
