Remember When (Small Town City Series) Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 228 ratings

A night to remember, a confession, and a lifetime of love in this small town, friends to lovers Christmas romance.

Andrew Lawson’s life in Sacramento has turned from being everything he dreamed of growing up, to a lonely place where finding someone special to share his life with is impossible. When the first person he meets on returning home for Thanksgiving is his childhood friend Link, it’s a reminder of happier times when his whole future lay in front of him. Agreeing to a drink before heading to his parent’s place is a way to reconnect, and a great way to start the holiday.

Link Stanton never considered leaving the small farming town he grew up in, but he misses Andy more than he’ll ever admit. Secretly lusting after a friend is bad enough but being in love with him is so much worse. One drink with friends seems harmless enough, after all, catching up on old times can’t be a bad thing, until beers turn to shots, and Link reveals how he really feels.

Everything could change, and if Andrew doesn’t remember Link’s heartfelt confession, they could carry on as friends. But, if he does remember, this could be either the worst, or the best, Christmas of all.

This had to be one of the cutest christmas stories I have read so far this year. I love the whole friends to lovers troupe as well, because you never know which way it can go.

Spoilers- Cross a nostalgic walk back to your glory days and ending up with your high school crush and best friend, and this is what you get.
Andrew/Drew/Andy left his small town behind. He couldn’t be himself there or follow his dreams. He is uniquely himself. Link has mixed emotions about home, but truly loves his work on the family farm. His ideas about new avenues and methods are proof of that.
I really enjoyed the way the two get back into their friendship. I REALLY enjoyed that it became so much more! The fact that they were willing to make a go of it, put in the work, despite living in different places is telling.
It’s a the-one-that-got-away store, and it works beautifully!

This was so cute and adorable. Small town romances always have the wholesome feel that I love. In this book we meet Andrew (Andy or Drew depending on who he's with) and Link. Childhood best friends who grew a part when Andy left to pursue his career. After a night of heavy drinking, things were said and then forgotten the next morning. Throughout the next few weeks we watch as Andy tries to remember the important confession that night.

I'm glad it happened like it did. I feel if Link has reminded him right then, that Andy wouldn't have realized he felt the same and it would have caused a rift. Link is such a teddy bear. I love how cute he got around Andy.

If I could change anything, I wish the memory was a bit more.... wow. Like it didn't seem like this epiphany that I hoped it would be.

My favorite scene would have to be when they were standing by the tree watching the performance, and Andy realized how important Link was to him.

I really enjoyed getting to know these characters and if you enjoy small town romance you'll love this.

This was a really sweet friends to lovers romance between childhood friends. They were from a small town - one moved away and one stayed, and then one Thanksgiving, it all changed. I loved seeing them get to know each other in a different light, and I’m glad they got their HEA!

This was my first book by B.L. Maxwell and I will be back for more. I thought that this was a really sweet book. I really enjoyed the connection and the chemistry between these two. Andy and Link were best friends growing up and now that they are around each other again, thanks to the holidays, truths come out. I really enjoyed this book and I would recommend it.

Andy/Drew and Link were such a sweet couple of … friends… The Thanksgiving reunion turned out to be different, with Andy suffering from an alcohol induced case of amnesia the next day. Link refuses to fill-in the important forgotten stuff, and Andy returns to the city and his job as a hair stylist. Maxwell constructed the friends-to-lovers part of the story with a series of trips by Link to the city to see Andy… and some romantic time together exploring the sites and awakening Andy’s feelings for Link. This is a slow growing from long term friendship to a strong bond of much more. Most of us can relate to this, even if the end result went a different direction. I enjoyed the read.

Best friends to lovers is one trope I have trouble resisting!! I love that this one comes with a little mystery!!! It’s made even better because the story transpires around Thanksgiving and Christmas!! Loved it!!!

Phew! Done. Finally. I started it, gosh, two weeks ago? and just finished it. I've read, like, six other books in the meantime. For such a short book it sure dragged on. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't good. It's got some cute moments but overall it was a dull dud. I think if it were stripped down to a novella it would do quite well and the synopsis needs some work as it oversells the story, setting the reader up for disappointment.

I liked the characters and the premise, but it kind of fell apart for me without an explanation of when/how/why Link decided to confess his love for Andy*now*. They had grown apart over the years and lived in different cities. It just came out of left field and was never fleshed out or explained. I didn't like how the love confession was treated in the book, it make things unnecessarily awkward. The fact that they basically coupled up after the confession eventhough Andy couldn't remember it makes the whole point that he couldn't recall what was said rather moot.

It was a huge part of the story so it really impacted my enjoyment, especially since even Andy remembering the contents of the conversation was anticlimactic.

Otherwise, I liked both characters, I enjoyed joining along with them as they dated, got closer and became reacquainted and thought that it was cute, just the concept was overly complicated and drawn out.

I read this book via Kindle Unlimited. It was on the recommendations listed.
So I gave it a try and I was hooked.
There are no negative tropes or stereotypes. Just a great take on the friends-to-lovers plotline.
It's heart warming and a wonderful HEA.
My only gripes are that it doesn't say how the long distance relationship actually works.
Also that it is told from Andy's perspective only.
But those gripes apart, overall this story is a fantastic read. Not too long or short, the cadence and flow is on point.
I look forward to reading further books from BL Maxwell, although I am not a fan of a series of books based on the same main characters.

What a cute story. Link knew Andy was the love of his life, even though Andy was slower to catch on. A nice love story, well written, with a little irony thrown in. A lovely ending.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sweet Story.

There was something soothing and cozy about this tale, a country boy, Drew to some, Andy to others, moves to the city, his childhood friend, Link, stays put. As the time goes by and the odd visits home, they keep the friendship going, but this time it's different and Link waits for the penny to drop. I adored this story, it made me feel all cozy, no angst, no heartache, just a truly gorgeous tale.
