Innocence Lost: A Thriller (Detective Remy Ferguson Thriller Mystery Series Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.2 4.2 out of 5 stars 418 ratings

Bright lights, dark powers, and innocent lives collide in this gripping thriller mystery!

Shots ring out at a luxurious Miami estate during a political fundraising dinner for the mayor’s reelection campaign. Detective Remy Ferguson and his team race down a shadowy trail to catch the shooter, but it disappears in a web of conspiracies, betrayals, and murder.

Remy lets his guard down with the mayor’s beautiful and intelligent campaign manager and does not want to believe evidence implicating her guilt. He must close his eyes to the bright lights of Miami and pry open the dark underworld, which he discovers is swallowing innocent lives. This must be stopped, even if doing so rocks the top echelons of power.

Remy also senses a familiar and manipulative presence that could shock the city. Has he unknowingly lured a sociopathic serial killer to his beloved Miami?

Following the gripping and addictive Mystery of L’Inconnu, Book 1 of the Det. Remy series, Innocence Lost takes Miami’s best detective deep into the secretive swamp of the city’s powerbrokers and politicians, where he is followed by a genius identity-shifting mastermind who taunts him. Readers of detective thrillers, psychological thrillers, and political thrillers will be gripped from the first page to the last of Book 2 in this explosive series!

Book 3, Mass Infliction, concludes a trilogy within the series as Det. Remy faces his arch-nemesis in a Holmes versus Moriarty type battle of wits and rogue technology.

Detective Thriller with Political Elements Makes for an Quick Read
PLOT:The second book in the Detective Remy Ferguson series brings Det. Ferguson to a campaign event, where the story kicks off with an attempt on the incumbent mayor’s life and the death of a security guard. As Remy and the rest of the Miami Police Department team investigate, the body count rises and they find themselves entrenched in the Miami political scene.REVIEW:This is a well-written detective thriller with political elements that draws you in from the get-go. Detective Remy Ferguson is competent but fallible, which makes him easily likable. He isn’t written as the perfect hero of the police department but comes across more realistic and believable. The plot has numerous paths it takes you down, but they are brought together nicely at the end with twist I didn’t see coming. It’s fast-paced and action-packed.While Innocence Lost is the second book in a series, there isn’t much too much that seems to refer to Book #1, Mystery of L'Inconnu (which I intended to read beforehand but ran out of time. Will definitely return to it before Book #3 comes out this summer.). In other words, you can easily pick this book up and read it without feeling like you should have read the first book or that you’re missing too much context. The only negative to the story is how many separate characters there were to keep track of, especially those employed by MPD. I repeatedly considered making a character map to help follow them.Bottom Line: Easy to read and full of twists and turns that keeps you reading to find out more – and impossible to guess what comes next.

Detective Ferguson and his team get involved in multiple crimes and murder before they finally solve some the crimes but we have to read more of these books to finish the stories.

Lot's of characters to keep track of, but each plays a part figuring out the plot. I really enjoyed the storyline with surprises included. Really liked Det. Remy

I’m about one third of the way through with Innocence Lost and am really impressed with how Grylles keeps the action and pace going in his second Remy Ferguson book. This book takes the series to a new level by tackling socially significant themes and situations.

I also wanted to mention that my favorite deviant character from Book 1 has reappeared. With Grylles still being a new author and this being his first sequel in a series, I wasn’t sure what to expect. And I’m still not sure what to expect because the shift in this character in Book 1 totally took me by surprise, but I recognize the person due to a certain speech-related clue. Grylles has created a great fictional villain, one that knows how to camouflage their scheming and murderous behavior. So far this is another five-star read in the Detective Remy Ferguson Thriller Mystery Series.

Best of all, the author has announced that the first three books in this series comprise a trilogy and complete a story arc. This is really exciting because I love continuing storylines. I'm looking forward to Book 3 to see how it all comes together. Grylles' style and characters are quickly making him one of my favorite new writers.

Hate it when a book just ends without completing the mystery and refers to next book to find the out.

Fast, dangerous and twisted. Great reading. The story is deep and compelling. One glaring error - you can’t sail a yacht out of Miami into the Pacific Ocean - a little too much of a stretch. That aside, the story was very well written.
