The people of Virginia Beach were stunned at the sound and sight of the Boeing 737 airplane as it plummeted.

Shielding their eyes to follow its contrails, to their horror, within seconds it plunged to the earth, taking over one hundred souls with it.

Detective Remy Ferguson of the Miami Police Department is contacted by an NTSB investigator who uncovers a mysterious clue. Remy comes to the horrific realization that his nemesis has resurfaced. Downing a major airliner may be just the beginning for this psychopathic serial killer, indifferent to any and all innocent lives who may be in the way. Who are the real targets, and what is the unifying objective for seemingly unconnected murders?

No matter how much he tries to put the past behind him, Lt. Ferguson finds himself once again facing his archrival, L’Inconnu. When it becomes clear that advanced technology and a team of rogue hackers is now in the mastermind's control with intentions of great harm, Remy works against the clock, handling one death after another, to stop his archnemesis.

With widespread destruction imminent if they fail, will Remy risk his career, his team, and his life to prevent more . . . mass infliction?

This was a fitting ending to the story arc involving L'Inconnu. And the main storyline for this book could easily be ripped from the headlines. As we become more and more dependent on computers, there is more chance for things to be ground to a halt by hackers or by companies sending out a system upgrade that is incorrect.

I love Remy's tenacity in continuing to follow the clues in a case until there is a resolution and how he has his own personal challenges. There were a number of characters we were introduced to at the start of the story but then the action started to pick up and the various parts of the puzzle began to make sense. Some of the twists were a little predictable (come on, how can everything be a surprise) but then there were some elements I wasn't expecting. I'm looking forward to seeing what is in store for Remy next.

A plane goes down killing 100-plus people and Detective Remy is brought in to find out who's behind the crash. As he digs deeper he discovers it's his old nemesis, L'Inconnu. It's up to Ferguson to stop him before the bodies pile up exponentially. There are plenty of action and thrills in this psychopathic mystery.

Dan Grylles is adept at building suspension right from the first page. Can't put it down -- well, when I have to set it aside, the story lingers in my mind, pulling me back!

Mass Infliction (Detective Remy Ferguson, #3)
    by Dan Grylles (Goodreads Author)

    ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
A Boeing 737 jetliner crashes into the sea off the coast of Virginia Beach, with no survivors. Onlookers are shocked, contemplating what could have brought the passenger plane down. On board, the aircraft was US Senator Hollister. Was he the target? The FBI was called into the investigation to assist the NTSB. After listening to the chatter on the plane’s black box, the FBI advises NTSB Inspector Pearson to call in Florida Police Detective Remington Ferguson. Why, because it comes to light that Ferguson’s old adversary, L’Inconnu is somehow involved and the disaster is much more than a simple terrorist attack. The plot becomes even more baffling when we learn that primarily two software hacker groups are involved in manipulating computer software for illegal activity, primarily ransomware. Although the hacker’s real names are not revealed to each other, their hacker tag names become unique and meaningful to each hacker.
Dan Grylles does a masterful job of weaving a complex, suspenseful, thriller that will keep the reader glued to every page. The beginning chapters introduce us to the array of various character personas and individual uniqueness, and the extent of their involvement. I thought the story had a fascinating plot with an array of captivating characters. The interpersonal relationships were well-developed and intriguing. The story was highly suspenseful, with twists and turns around each page. What made this book scary was the scenario of potential real-life events that could easily become a reality with today’s computer hackers becoming more sophisticated. I would recommend this book as a high-tech thriller and am looking forward to reading more of Dan Grylles’, Remington Ferguson books.

This ending broke my heart. The book was so dang good but the ending got me. I never saw that one coming. And another part of the ending makes me wonder who is still out there. There's more to this mystery. I'm definitely ready for another book!.

Ok first this book is amazing but I was sad to finish it. Remy is a master at figuring out complicated crimes. The one criminal that got away but continues to kill will have her day of reckoning in this book. I can not begin to express how amazing this series is. I don't want Remy to be gone!!!.
