Revolutionary Temptation (Revolutionaries Book 1) Kindle Edition
Next Book: Of Hope and Anguish
1777 New York City
The American colonists are fighting for their independence, but the battlefield is not the only place to wage war. When General Washington’s head of intelligence asks Captain Jack West to spy on the British in New York, Jack agrees, despite reservations about this ungentlemanly pursuit.
Jack’s contact in the city recruits bookshop owner Elias Ashfield, an impeccably dressed sensualist who flaunts his desire for both men and women and seeks a place in high society. Jack longs for a simple life guided by clear principles. Eli is a risk-taker who knows how to get what he wants. And he wants Jack in his bed.
Events in Jack’s past have made him fearful of acting on his secret craving for a man’s touch, but Eli intrigues Jack as much as he infuriates him. As Jack and Eli search for the information the rebel army needs, they realize there’s more between them than mere lust. But finding a way to be together may prove more difficult than defeating the British Empire.

About the author

Silvia Violet writes bad boy M/M romance. She can be found haunting coffee shops looking for the darkest, strongest cup of coffee she can find. Once equipped with the needed fuel, she can happily sit for hours pounding away at her laptop. Silvia typically leaves home disguised as a suburban stay-at-home-mom, and other coffee shop patrons tend to ask her hilarious questions like "Do you write children's books?" She loves watching the looks on their faces when they learn what she's actually up to. When not writing, Silvia enjoys baking sinfully delicious treats, exploring new styles of cooking, and reading to her incorrigible offspring.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 9, 2018Format: KindleVerified PurchaseHistorical romance has always been a favorite of mine since it was the first "naughty" reads I ever indulged in. I have to admit I did always want stories about gentlemen finding love with other gentlemen though I never found them when I was young and curious. As a queer woman, I love reading about love between people like myself throughout the ages; I don't need history to be compromised for the sake of my enjoyment which is why I am so glad Silvia Violet writes fiction where it's dangerous to be together yet the benefit is found to be worth the risk.
Revolutionary Temptation has a fantastic background in the American Revolution with plenty of intrigue to keep everything fascinating while the two main protagonists work out how they intend to work out their feelings for one another. I was captivated by the wickedness of Eli, charmed by the honor of Jack, and thoroughly thrilled by the unrepentant resourcefulness of Constance. I sincerely hope Constance gets a book or a short of her own because she and her Major Bradford completely deserve their own Happy-Ever-After.
There's lots of spying to go with the romantic entanglements. I enjoyed the addition of the details regarding the status of the troops of the rebel forces. I'd recommend Revolutionary Temptation to anyone who enjoys books written about Historical Americas, not only fans of M/M romance. If you ordinarily wouldn't take a chance on a historical yet are a fan of queer romance? I'd definitely say give this one a try. I doubt you'll regret it. To give the book credit where it's due, I borrowed the book through the Kindle lending program then bought it for my permanent collection because I know I'll read it again and I can't wait for the sequel to come out in February 2018!
- Reviewed in the United States on February 3, 2018Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI really enjoyed that one. I'm not a huge fan of historicals but Silvia Violet definitely pulls it off. Eli and Jack are great together, and the way she handles the whole issue about being gay back in the 1700's was really well done.
The spying/war time part of the novel is very interesting and shares the spotlight with the gorgeous sex scenes I expect from Violet (you won't be disappointed, believe me).
Thankfully I didn't start this one till I had Of Hope and Anguish in my hot little hands. I wouldn't say that Revolutionary Temptation ends in a cliffy exactly but it is clear that the story continues from here. I've got an ARC and no moss will be growing on that one, that's for sure!
I wonder if Constance will get her own book...?
- Reviewed in the United States on May 29, 2018Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseJack West is sent to spy on the British in New York during the Revolutionary War. His contact is Constance Sullivan, a rich widow. She is looking to bring Elias Ashfield, bookseller, into their group. Jack is not happy about spying nor is he happy about adding Elias to their group because the two men are attracted to one another. Lots of surprises await them all.
I enjoyed this book. It was well written. I liked the period which is not done much any more. I loved the characters and was surprised by how some activities were handled--both within the spying story and the love story. The story held me interest as I always wanted to know what would happen especially at the end. I look forward to reading the next book.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 28, 2017Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThank god. I finished the book. That's not what I should be thinking at the end of a book. That's what you say at the end of a long race, a tough work week; not at the end of a book.
I admit that I truly and sincerely liked the first third of this book. This is the reason for the three star rating, otherwise I would have rated this a 2.5. I felt that the writing was good, and the spy plot was intriguing. I liked the tension between the two MCs. But once they got together, the plot fell away in favor of sex, sex, sex. I love sex in my romances as much as the next person, but when I find myself skimming through yet another melodramatic sex scene, well, then I know it's just a bit too much.
The balance of plot to sex was just way off. That's a pity, really, because this could have a very intriguing novel, and the author could have made the reader work for those lascivious scenes and then feel like the earned them. As it was, if felt like I was at the bargain bin tossing about one worthless item after another.
I'd heard many good things about this book, too bad they didn't prove true for me.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 4, 2017Format: KindleVerified PurchaseNever having read a M/M romance taking place during the American Revolution, I was a little skeptical about this one going in--but exceedingly happy at the end.
Here is a book with all the right moves--historically accurate in setting, mores, style; craftily drawn and deeply conflicted characters; rip-roaring scenes on the streets, through the woodlands, and in the bedroom. And in the end, you could believe it might have happened.
Jack West (on the left on the cover) and Eli Ashfield are beautifully depicted and their love story full of passion, heartache and heartbreak. But nowhere in the blurb will you find mention of the critical character--Mrs. Constance Sullivan, the catalyst for the plot as well as a few other things that go on.
You will love these three, and there is promise of more from the author. But for now, saddle up and ride, this one is an absolute stunning surprise.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 25, 2018Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis is a solid gay historical romance, set during the American Revolutionary War. The author weaves real historical events with fictional characters in a believable plot. It’s my opinion that the author consciously chose to focus on the conflict that Jack has when he meets Eli, who openly flaunts his flamboyancy much to the chagrin of the norms of the time. If Eli were a true historical character, his mannerisms and dress would’ve been muted for those times, but the writer never strives to make this story an authentic historical period piece. Instead the author has striven to tell a tale of romance when two men, united by a goal, with danger all around them as they struggle with their emotions for each other.

I loved this book. I loved the characters, the language, all very formal and proper, the time period, everything about it. The main characters of Constance, Jack and Eli dance around each other initially. Jack is a contradiction, a man of duty and principles. He hates spying and the rules that go with it but more than that he hates his nature and his desires for men. Eli on the other hand is pragmatic, playing both sides to stay free, enjoying both men and women. Eli longs to make his fortune so he can revenge himself on the man who destroyed his family. Eli hides his past behind an indifferent attitude. Both men have a backstory full of pain and suffering. I warmed to them immediately, I cared about what happened to them. I also admired Constance, a woman ho is patriotic and determined, using her widowed position to create a spy network. The time period of the American War of Independence is fascinating but a bit earlier to my favourite Napoleonic period, and I don't know much about it so I can't verify any of the actual events other than to say the story seemed accurate and quite realistic, and it appeared that the author did her research. The story ends with a HFN, which makes sense as the war is still going on so I hope Ms Violet writes more stories about Jack, Eli and Constance. Highly Recommended.
