Royally In Trouble: A Royal Romance Duet (Not Really Royal Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.3 4.3 out of 5 stars 8,229 ratings

From USA Today and Amazon Charts bestselling author Meghan Quinn, comes the much-anticipated sequel to the bestselling royal romance, ROYALLY NOT READY. This modern take on The Princess Diaries is full of sweltering heat, laugh out loud moments, and a perfect happily ever after.

Who knew happily ever after would involve so much kneeling?

But if you had to look into the smoldering, possessive eyes of a future prince who called you his fiancé, you’d submit to him anytime of the day too. And now we’re planning the royal wedding of the century so my HEA is going to be forever.
Life is perfect.

That is until my grandfather, the king, demands we follow tradition when it comes to the upcoming nuptials . . . meaning, we have to go through pre-wedding classes, parade around the country as the newly engaged couple, and we must be celibate.

The horror! The pain! And not the good kind of pain.

The countdown to the day we can finally say “I do” is intense. Every passing glance I get from my alpha prince lights my skin on fire, making every moment I can't be with him more and more difficult.

But what happens on our wedding night is far from happily ever after.

Now I'm questioning if the iron-clad bond I have with my fiancé is real, or if it all was just a fairy tale . . .

We matter most.”ROYALLY IN TROUBLE is the follow-up book to Royally Not Ready - one of my favorite books from 2022. I was so excited to return to Torskethorpe and discover what Keller and Lilly have been up to since book one. If you haven't read book one in this duet - turn back now or save this and come back later.Meghan Quinn definitely surprised me with this book! It included her usual comedic relief and many hilarious shenanigans that her characters always find themselves in - but Royally In Trouble was also full of mystery, angst, suspense and drama. I don't want to spoil anything, but there are definitely some heavy themes throughout this book.Thankfully, Meghan Quinn keeps us smiling while the characters are dealing with the events of Royally In Trouble. I really tried to figure out the mystery before the end, but I definitely had no idea what was coming. LOL. While I liked this book, I took off a star because I needed a longer conflict resolution between Keller and Lilly. I felt like they rushed through some important healing that would be needed after the events.Thank you to Meghan for the ARC of this book! I received an ARC as a member of Meghan’s Review Crew.

    5 stars.

I start all my MQ reviews off with the same sentiment—she is my very favorite author. Let's go ahead and make that known for those of you who are new here.

That's why the first thing I'm going to say in this review might shock you.

It wasn't until I got to 15% and Lilly made me LOL with the line, "'Is, uh, your butt butt okay?' 𝙒𝙝𝙮 𝙙𝙞𝙙 𝙄 𝙨𝙖𝙮 𝙗𝙪𝙩𝙩 𝙩𝙬𝙞𝙘𝙚?'" that I was certain I was going to love this one. At first, I wasn't convinced that this one was for me, and that this might be the first one of Meghan's books that I would rate less than an enthusiastic 5 stars—that might get 4 instead of 5. Wild, I know. I rate my books honestly, no matter who the author is, and hers have always been perfectly on point. Something about this one didn't have me convinced at first. I knew I liked it, but I wasn’t connecting like I usually do.

But immediately after that chapter, I was hooked. I don't know what it was about that goofy line from Lilly that snapped everything back in place for me, but it was just perfection after that. I could not put it down. It may have just been a weird me thing. I’m weird sometimes. Clearly. 😅

I say all that to tell you this: if for some reason you have the same reaction as me at the very beginning, keep going. I promise it'll be worth it. And it catapulted itself back into 5 star territory, and I remembered why I love Keller Fitzwilliam so much, not to mention Princess Lilly.

The thing I loved most about this book—well, there were a LOT of things I loved—but the thing that made it stand out from the other things I've read from Meghan was the mystery element! I LOVED it! I love romances with that hint of mystery, and this was more than a hint. It was huge part of the plot, and I was so here for it. I thought I had it figured out several times, and while my original hunch was *partially* right, I didn't totally have it, so for that, I give major props.

I also loved seeing the deeper side of Keller and Lilly's relationship—more emotion and less spice. Was there a lot of spice? Yes, in the second half. iykyk. and yes. it is as h o t as always.

The much anticipated sequel to Royally Not Ready is ready and waiting for readers! Meghan Quinn takes us back to Torskethorpe in time for the wedding of Her Royal Highness Princess Lilija, formerly known as Lilly Campbell, and Keller Fitzwilliam. But instead of Lilly and Keller relishing their happily-ever-after, things aren't going quite so smoothly. While all appears to be well within the confines of their bedroom, the engaged couple seem to be drifting apart the closer the royal nuptials gets. Maybe once they've exchanged vows, everything will get back on course; but not everyone wants a fairy tale ending for the heir to the throne and her betrothed. Rather, they just want to end them.

When I found out there was a follow-up to Royally Not Ready, I was pleasantly surprised as well as a wee bit nervous. Lilly and Keller's story ended quite nicely, and you know what they say about not messing with a good thing. I'm hope to note, however, that this continuation of Lilly and Keller's tale brought with it some intrigue and suspense, which made for an exciting read. Yes, the author's humor shines through, as does the romance, but all the additional elements gave it a different feel. I enjoyed this reunion with Lilly and Keller and all things Torskethorpe, which is why Royally in Trouble earns four stars.

You absolutely must read "Royally Not Ready" before diving into this captivating second book of the duet.

In this installment, we join Lilly and Kellar as they embark on the final preparations for their imminent wedding, mere weeks away. As they navigate their relationship and adapt to their forthcoming roles as future monarchs, unexpected challenges arise, reshaping their journey in ways I dare not spoil.

I am at a loss for words to describe the profound impact of Meghan's writing on my heart, I can always rely on her to having me both laughing and crying reading the same page. While the book retains its delightful rom-com essence, it delves even deeper into the realm of evolving relationships. It brilliantly explores the themes of effective communication, tenacious pursuit of one's desires, and striving to be the best version of oneself for the sake of a partner. I found myself oscillating between anger towards Kellar's emotional immaturity and an overwhelming fondness for his unwavering desire to shield Lilly from the harsh realities of life.

I highly recommend all of Meghan Quinn’s books, but definitely this duet!

I love Meghan Quinn, but this story felt slightly different to her usual ones. I think because of the action and tension in it, I found it a unique style.
    The romance was good, too.
I look forward to reading the next one in the series.

Oh wow, this had all the hallmarks of a Meghan Quinn novel but so much more. It was a wee bit edgier, a whole lot of spicy, and had the best drama!

    Quinn really excelled herself!

I felt everything while reading this - I loved most of it, I 'hated' Meghan around page 260, I was annoyed, I laughed out loud, I cried and as always I was thoroughly entertained. When you start to read be sure you don't have anything else to do before you finish, it's addictive!

    “𝑾𝒆 𝒎𝒂𝒕𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝒎𝒐𝒔𝒕, 𝒍𝒐𝒗𝒆.”

I truly cannot see through my tears. I loved this so much even if it ripped out my little soft heart in the process. This installment of Keller and Lilly's story isn't an extended epilogue but a story plot with so much depth that keeps you turning the page wanting to know what's going to happen next.

Royally Not Ready is one of my favourite Meghan Quinn books and I have been waiting for Royally In Trouble for so long and it didn't disappoint. It was angsty and heavier than most of Meghan's books but the spice is TOP TIER. I was not expecting the amount of suspense that these characters endure but it worked! This was like watching a tv show and I was hooked. I'm also really glad I decided to listen to the audio because all the emotions and drama hit me so much harder.

Keller Fitzwilliam truly is one of my favourite MMC and I will never stop championing for him. I love him in all his arrogant, broody, dominating ways but we truly saw a much softer side that had me crying. His love for Lilly is so large that he may not be the best at communicating but the way he protects Lilly is beautiful. I really love their relationship and they deserve all their happy endings.

I also love Keller and Lara's relationship. This duet was just so needed and I truly enjoyed seeing new and returning characters. I just loved this so bloody much even though I feel like my emotions have been put through the ringer.

If you haven't read the first one I cannot recommend this duet enough.
