Ruby Dragon: Riders of Fire Dragons, Book 2 (A Dragons' Realm YA epic fantasy adventure) (Riders of Fire Dragon Riders) Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 156 ratings

Tonio’s juggling with fire—a dying mother, two vengeful gang leaders breathing down his neck, and a tough dragon master hunting him down. Not to mention his step-brother who’s always looking for an excuse to wield a birch switch.

When Tonio tells his friend, Sam, that Ma is dying of the wasting sickness, Sam comes up with a brilliant idea, and they sell secrets to rival street gangs to earn enough for his mother’s healing tonic. But the gang leaders, Biter and Half-Ear, are ruthless, and it’s only a matter of time until they discover Sam and Tonio are double-crossing them.

If only Sam’s ideas weren’t so dangerous.

If only Tonio’s drunken step-brother, Marius, wasn’t constantly beating him.

Then a ruby dragon arrives in Naobia. A tough dragon master, as sharp as a blade, has come to town—a spymaster who hunts down Tonio and Sam and tempts them to go on a dangerous hunt for his dragon’s stolen egg.

Anyone in their right mind would turn him down.

Unless they were desperate for coin…

Coin that could buy Ma’s healing tonic in a flash.

Ruby Dragon is a short prequel to the award-winning, best-selling series, Riders of Fire.

Tonio a young boy who has a sick mother, a mean step brother who takes out the loss of his father on him. This book tells the story of what he tries to do to help his mother. This is a prequel to The Riders of Dragon Fire series. If you haven't read these books it is a good introduction into the world of dragons. If you have read them, you will see familiar people that are in the series. Eileen Mueller writes fantastic dragon books. I first fell in love with dragon books and riders with the Pern series, these books continue that relationship between dragons and people. So if you love dragons I highly recommend this prequel and the whole series. Dragon lovers unite and get this book and go on adventure today!

The omelette covers the background of the semester during the dragons realm box set.
We see several interactions with groups that appear later in the written timeline

This tells a bit about Tonio and how he was willing to do anything to help his sick mother. But things change for him after his mother dies and he is bonded to a dragonet and where his life will lead him. How some of the other characters within the books come about.

This tale tells about Tonio and his challenge to find a red dragon's egg and what happens to him and the egg.

I liked this story. It was interesting to find out how Tonio got his dragon. The series is very good also.

Tonio knows misery very well. It is a daily companion what with his mother having a wasting disease and his loutish bigger brother making his daily life a misery.
Yes, Tonio knows misery very well.
Who could have guessed meeting up with a Ruby Dragon would be the start of a huge change in fortune?
The Riders of Fire series by Eileen Mueller is one of the best dragon featuring series ever written since the famed Anne McCaffrey.
And the second prequel novelette Ruby Dragon confirms it in spades.
    Enjoy!

Eileen simply amazes me. The writing is easy and flows so nicely you do not realize its coming to an end until it does and then it leaves you craving for more. There is so much thought that goes into this Novella to entice you into wanting to follow through with the rest of this series. Just enjoy to water the pallet and wanting to sour in the sky with the rest of the dragons and their riders.
HIGHLY recommended if you enjoy love, loss, and a high emotional rollercoaster.

The sad story of Tonio's life before Antonika. Sam is a wonderful friend. It's a sorry world in which they live. Even those intended to protect and help others look out only for themselves.

Action-packed. Entertaining. Haunting. Scary. Tragic. Unpredictable. Wonderful characters.

I received a copy of this book as a gift.  This is my honest review.

Young lad desperately saving for a cure for his terminally ill mother, with his step brother stealing everything he can and doling out beatings for anything when he feels like it. Enter a dragon rider, offering a huge reward for assistance - that could get the lad and his friend killed. This is the tale of how they go about it, and what comes of it.
Very good story with nice twist at the end.
