This is the first book in The Jewelry Box series. This is a spin-off from the Monsters in the Dark series. You do not need to read that series to enjoy this one.
Henri's half-brother Q sends him on a mission to help him take down one of the worst trafficking rings. He must become one of them to get inside the prestigious club. If he can do it, he will be welcomed into his brothers family and home. He will finally belong. He just has to keep the monster inside of him at bay while doing everything he can to protect her.
Ily's in Paris in hopes to spark the romance back into her relationship. She quickly realizes that it is a lost cause and breaks up with him in the middle of a club. Then, a mysterious stranger comes along and offers to buy her for the night. Only it isn't just one night at all. It's hell.
This book does end on a cliffhanger. I love this dark and twisted series. Now, off to the next book!

A deal is struck. What follows is a wild ride of temptation, intrigue, evil, and depravity. This story is a total waltz between Henri and the internal war he's fighting within himself between good and bad, right and wrong. He wants to stick to the plan he hatched with Q, but he cannot deny the appeal of the dark world around around him. "Somehow, in an unknown country in a fortress surrounded by enemies, I found the one thing I’d been searching for. Contact. Connection. Her. And y'all...the writing here is pure poetry. Like a fine wine. This story is beautifully heartbreaking and will pull you down into its dark clutches. I was terrified most of the time I read it but it was the most delicious torture. I cannot wait for more!

I finally have another Pepper Winters series to love. So if you don't know, Pepper Winters is a dark romance author. She is actually is my favorite dark romance author. Her books are always so dark and juicy.

Ruby Tears follows Henri who happens to be Q's little brother. If you don't know who Q is, he's the hero in the Monsters in the Dark series. Henri is fighting some demons. He has figured out that he likes pain with his sex. Real pain, not 50 Shades kind of stuff. He wants crying. He wants screaming. He wants blood. He decides to find his brother to see if he can find family and love. He confesses to Q of his dark desires and Q sends him on a mission to infiltrate a sex trading ring that he has not been able to locate.
Enter in Ily. The bait to get him into this ring. Henri and Victor (the ring leader of the sex ring) overhear Ily and her crappy boyfriend arguing and hear that they are on vacation and that she wants a divorce. Victor orders Henri to kidnap Ily to show that he is willing to get into the club.
He obviously does because he wants to gain Q's trust and wants to help.
Henri and Ily's story starts from there.
Words cannot express how dark I think this series is going to get. I almost feel like it's going to be her darkest one yet... Why? Because this book barely had anything dark in it. I could just be insensitive to things because of how much dark romance I do read.
Who knows?
I'm a little bit disappointed that I didn't get to find out what is going to happen during the Ruby Tears "game". This book was left on a cliff hanger. Luckily for me, I think three books are already released in this series.
I am so very excited to read this series. This first book was honestly just a huge set up for what's going to be happening in the next books. There were times I felt a bit underwhelmed but that's okay. I'm ready to see how dark this series is going to get.
